  1. Hi there,

Our 2002 Superb is still going strong after a mere 245,000miles.  Hoping she keeps going for a few more yet.

3 years ago we had the ballast replaced on the nearside headlamp.

The same headlamp has failed again.

Are there any simple guides for accessing the back of the headlamps so I can swap the NS and FS bulb to try and determine if it is the bulb or the ballast?  It looks like I need to release some of the air inlet pipework - or am I missing something obvious?

I've checked the obvious fuses - but they all checked out ok.   The FS headlamps all work fine.

Any suggestions or pointers would be muchly appreciated.

    Many thanks

  2. Thanks for all the advice.

Think I'll give them a miss.

Not enough information available to be sure.

All I know if that they are from a TT, Ronal design, with 225.45/17 tyres.

Others I've seen on Ebay seem to be 100PCD - that match the photo I've been sent.

    Thanks for everyone's help.

The hunt for 2 original alloys for Mk1 Superb continue.....

    Cheers

    Matthew

  3. Hi,

After 12yrs the alloys on my Mk 1 have seen better days - struggling to get the tyres to seal on the rears.

I've been offered some Alloys from a TT - same size etc - even got good tyres on them!

Would these be ok on my Superb?

My only concern is the different weights of the vehicle.

    Please can anyone advise?

    Many thanks

  4. Interesting - I'd convinced myself that it wasn't a bypass relay, as it only seems to control the indicators (the side lights etc operate fine with it unplugged).

Most of the bypass relays seem to have connections for all the lighting functions.

This unit has incoming connections for power (0v and 12v) and both indicators (L&R). The outputs are to the vehicle indicators and and the trailerboard indicators.

If I can find a standard unit I'll happily sort out all the connections to make them fit the current wiring.

    Thanks again,

    Matthew

  5. Check for loose wires at the towbar socket. Maybe this is what caused the fuse to blow in the first place.

RE: Airbag fault - If you removed its fuse, then you probably did cause the problem. You can only reset the fault with a diagnostic tool such as VCDS.

    Thanks RW,

I've checked the wiring inch-by-inch from the socket to the relay box and it all looks ok. When I took the relay box out it had the tell-tale smell of blown electronics!

I have a 3rd party vag-com lead somewhere around (not sure I'll be able to find the drivers though). Off to hunt them out. At least I now feel confident that the airbag fault has been generated by me, not a real fault!

    Thanks

    Matthew

  6. Thanks to everyone's joint efforts, I now have power in the boot!!!!

The bad news is that it hasn't fixed the problem with the towbar lights...... but I'm now fairly confident that it is the flasher relay. Have tried a couple of caravan dealers and car spares places this afternoon, but without any success. Will have to delay the start of the holiday and head to a towbar fitter tomorrow.

In other bad news... one of the fuses I've taken out the check, seems to have triggered an "Airbag Fault" warning on the dash.

Does this sound possible? Or is it likely I have suddenly developed a real Airbag fault?

This trip seems to be doomed.....

    Many thanks

    Matthew

  7. The fuse you are looking for is between relays 53 and 100 on the edge. The fuse only supplies the luggage compartment accessory socket as it leaves the factory. If it had a 25A fuse in it, that's what I would fit - it may be necessary if you have a fridge

Cheers for that. Off to fetch some fuses from a mate, will fit them first thing and see if we have success!

    Many thanks!

  8. Update!!

Found a third fuse on that board! A white "25A" fuse, which has blown..... In the process of putting the fuse at the top of the board (yellow - 20A) back in, I managed to drop it down the back. My fingers are too chunky!

Does anyone have any idea what the 25A fuse may supply - apart from the boot accessory socket?

rwbaldwin - it was supplied on the vehicle when I bought it from the Skoda dealer, but I think it's an aftermarket retrofit. No fuse in 35.

Thanks to everyone for there very prompt help - we may yet be going on holiday!

    Thanks

    Matthew

  9. The fuse is on the relay board under the dash, above the pedals. It's a stupid place for it.

I think you have to remove the lower dash trim to get to it. I think it also supplies the socket near the rear seats.

    Cheers Phil,

Hopefully it doesn't supply the rear seat sockets, as that one still works!

I'll see if I can find the relay board after dinner.

    Many thanks - much appreciated.

  10. Hi,

The 12v accessory socket in my 2003 Superb has lost all power, the problem is that the towbar electrics (flasher unit) is powered via the cable that supplies this socket.

I assumed that one of the fuses in the fuse board would have blown. I looked in the manual, and tried Google, but could not determine which fuse it would be, so I then checked EVERY fuse in the board. But they are all ok.

Does anyone else have any idea where the fuse for this socket could be, or any other reason why there is 0v being supplied.

We're meant to be going away this week, in the caravan, but without this supply, I don't have any indicators on the caravan - so can't drive it.

    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks

  11. Hi,

This morning my 2002 Superb is suffering from double speed indicators on both left and right sides.

All bulbs look to be ok and all are flashing - just too fast!

If I turn the Hazards on, they flash normally.

I've seen some other threads on here about replacing the flasher unit, but I wasn't sure if the hazard circuitry also used the flasher unit?

Bit of a panic going on, as I'm going away tomorrow night!

Would a faulty flasher unit (I think this is installed in the inside of the rear driver side wheel arch, under the boot carpet) affect the Hazards also?

    All suggestions greatfully received.

    Thanks

    Matthew

  12. Hi,

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread.

I am also looking to make some changes to my 2003 Superb to improve its towing "sag".

By spring assisters, do people mean

    http://www.just-tow.co.uk/trailer-parts/spring-assisters.html

    or

    http://www.mad-suspension.co.uk/Progressive.php?vehicle_id=1835&make_id=28&year=2003&model=Superb 1.9TDI

the best price I can find for HD springs is

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Skoda-Superb-1-9-Tdi-z-Rear-HD-Suspension-Coil-Spring-/380361248990?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588f4c10de

Does anyone think this is a sensible price?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

  13. Evening,

    Wonder if anyone can help....

I have managed to dent the boot lid on my Skoda Superb - the local dent remover (who I've used before and would recommend to anyone - "Dave the Dent" in Tamworth) is coming to have a look, but I fear it is too far gone.

I think I might end up sourcing a replacement boot lid from a breaker and having it resprayed, then fit it too my car.

Has anyone ever taken the boot lid from their car? Is there a decent guide anywhere?

Does this sound like a sensible plan?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

  14. Hi,

Having recent encountered a serious pot-hole on my way home I have since noticed that the rear drivers side tyre is scrubbing on the "corner".

I'm about to take it to the local garage for them to take a look.

I have a vague recollection that it is not possible to change the camber on the rear wheels?

    Is this correct?

    Can anyone offer any advice?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

  15. Hi, I have bought the MKi9200 and will get it fitted at the weekend. But I can't decide where I want the screen located. In front of the Rev Counter (and loosing the clock) or on right hand side of the dashboard, or somewhere along the centre console? What do people think? All I know that I would like the Ipod and USB connection in the Drawer under the radio. Any recommendations or input much appreciated. Regards, dsab

    Hi,

Apologies for jumping on an old thread, but did you need any adaptor cables to connect the Parrot to the Skoda Symphony?

    Many thanks

    Matthew

  16. You need to do the test at WOT to at least 3500 rpm (through the gears).

    Take a look at this

    Good or Bad MAF

    You should get similar values.

A quick look at your figures leads me to believe the MAF is faulty, but do the test again at WOT to be sure

    HTH

That's great - thanks very much.

I'll take a detour on the way home tomorrow and set vag-com logging.

    I'll report back tomorrow!

    Thanks again,

    Matthew

  17. The ECU uses the drop in airflow to determine the EGR has opened. It has no way of directly measuring EGR operation/flow.

If the MAF is not working correctly, you can get this error. Check the MAF.

    OK.

A quick google and I found how to get the MAF readings from VAG-COM.

Engine speed MAF (specified) MAF (actual) EGR duty cycle

    TIME 790-870 230-310 210-350 40-75% TIME

    Marker STAMP /min mg/str mg/str % STAMP

    0.38 819 250 416.5 84.5

    0.78 819 250 416.5 84.5

    1.19 819 250 416.5 84.5

    1.61 819 250 416.5 84.5

    2.01 819 250 406.7 84.5

    2.39 1323 550 392 19.9

    2.79 2268 390 529.2 44.2

    3.19 2373 260 607.6 75.7

Is the discrepancy between the MAF (Specified) and the MAF (actual) normal, or a sign of the cause of all my problems? (the 3rd and 4th columns)

    Many thanks

    Matthew
