  1. I've taken the barrel out and then removed the long flat part. Put the barrel back in. Now it will turn around however the door lock won't open as intended.

Went to nirro vw spare parts and bought a passat lock barrel for £25. Called a locksmith who will match the barrel to my key for £30.

Called skoda earlier, they needed a code from the key blade that my keys didn't have. There was also a 4 week lead time as they get cut in Germany. What a nightmare. Unnecessary expense when my wife is due any day now!

  2. Hi Folks

Today to my shock my car was broken into. Seems like someone got a flat screwdriver and forced it into the barel. Likely enough they didnt steal the car however i now have another problem, the car can now opened with virtually anything as long as its narrow like a flat screwdriver. The barrel turns and opens the car with very little effort. Not too sure what to do for over night as its on the street and secondly how do i repair it as the barrel defo needs replacement.

As the barrel is soo damaged i assume the repair kits will be useless as i can turn and open the car door and deactivate the alarm without the original key. I assume therefore the cylinder is damaged (or am i wrong?)

    Regards

  3. Hi all

Oh man is it a mission or what to change these especially if you don't have skinny hands (need to go on a hand diet). Whist changing the bulbs I got a little clumsy and the housing clips fell in to the under tray. That's not as bad as what happened next. I put a little to much pressure on to the driver side dip light and round dome has gone loose! If I push it in it doesn't clip in. The bulb is housed okay however the whole unit within the headlight now moves around. Have I broken it?

  4. As my bracket is snaped off, i started removing the wing mirror and and have come across an issue:

So far i have removed the black bottom cover (the led one)

Then i removed the Top plastic cover and removed the glass and glass moving meganism

I am now left with the metal bracket thats broken and the wiring with the plugs

How do i total detach the the bracket as the hole is is too small for the plugs to fit through

Do i have to remove the door cover and then disconnect from the switch?

Its raining so i have covered it up with some plastic.

  5. Hi Guys

Been away for a while. Someone broke my driver side mirror by pushing it down and breaking the bracket. The mirror and housing are fine so i just need the bracket that seems to be the major part. Any ideas if i can get one separatly and what the part number is? Any idea on costs? Will a passat mirror bracket fit as i cant find any suberb ones on ebay?

  6. The parrot kits a God send and any novice with patience can install one in under an hour. Just make sure the mic is positioned well, i put it on the steering column and put the parrot 3100 on a brodit bracket that is money well spent (no holes, no screws etc). The wireless loom is starightforward and no need to cut any wires.

  7. Trouble with these sensors is that only one of them has to fail for the whole lot to stop working.

Put the car into reverse and turn the ignition on (but not so that the engine comes on).

Place your ear up against each sensor and you should hear a faint crackling noise. If you can't it means the sensor is dud.

I think new sensors are something in the region of £100 EACH from a dealership. You're much better off getting a £20 aftermarket set from Ebay that seem to be much better than the Skoda ones.

That doesnt work as there is no static from any of the sensors.

  8. £2.50 each from the dealer, while you are there get the clips that the bolts lock to, these are 0.50p each, and the inner wing ones are the most likely to be shot, which is why the bolts go missing.

Thanks mate. Bloody expensive for what they are however a small price to pay to protect the engine

  9. Was driving along the M11 and something hit the undertray and dislodged it. I pulled over and noticed the tap screws were missing for the sides (2) and front (3-5). Only 3 were holding the back and the front was just wedged into the bumper. I've taken it off and need to get hold of the screws. Any ideas what exactly they are called and where i can get them from?

  10. Do i need a new Sump Plug too? I've got everything from Skoda Preston instead of Euro car parts. They didnt have a fuel filter in stock so it will be ordered tomorrow so was thinking do i need to order a Sump Plug too. Got all genuine parts as price wasnt too different and went for the Shell helix ultra 5w30 for £8p/ltr

  11. Erm, no.

the 1.8 litres refers to the cc's of the engine.

It will take approx 4 - 4 1/2 litres of oil. (look in the handbook for the exact amount - it should give two amounts, one with the filter change and one without)

    thought as much, thanks
