  1. Hi Guys, Quick question if I may. Purchased an Octavia 1.6 diesel recently as a runabout. I've serviced the car, inc cambelt and waterpump. Goes great but my battery computer says low output from the alternator. I purchased another alternator brand new, it had 2 pins on the lin bus connector, original only had 1. Same situation, low output. So, I've ordered a 2nd hand one, it looks OK, not all salty looking, pretty cheap 40 quid and it's a valeo. Question is, do I need to register this as a new component after fitting the 2nd hand alternator, or am I good to go. Thanks guys 🌟
  2. Hi, bit of a mix of long and short drives tbh, it's the wife's car, never been abused and very gently driven. I'll have a look next dry day for leaks, if nothing I'll service the gearbox and report back, hopefully it's not damaged.
  3. Hi guys, Wife's Scala made an unusual noise from the gearbox whilst pulling of from a roundabout, same day message on dashboard read economy tip, keep gearbox in Drive, which it was. Both issues within 10 minutes of each other. Been OK since. No issues. Scanned for codes, nothing, however g/box annalisys shows about 2000 unsuccessful gear changes in all gears, higher numbers in gears 1 and 2. Any ideas? Mileage is low, car is on 29k Thanks
  4. Thanks Aldfort, Would you know where the purge valve is on the 1.0 engine. I had a look and tbh I couldn't see it , it's the wife's car and I've had a quick look, thanks for responding
  5. Hi Guys, Engine management light on and off and then on again. Something to do with the evap system, any hints on where to look, I don't see any split pipes, I put a dab of vaseline around the gas cap seal as I know leaking gas caps can cause issues. Image enclosed Thanks 👍
  6. Hi, I use VW approved Castrol edge 5w30 oil, last 2 oil changes I used Skoda filters, supplied by my local Skoda garage. This time I'm using a Mann oil filter. As long as the oil you use is approved by Skoda you'll be fine, the Mann filters are half the price of the genuine Skoda filters and are just as good IMHO. Best thing is just to change the oil regularly at least once per year or 5k miles.
  7. Hi, I did the first oil and filter change at around 600 Miles. The 2nd oil change at around 5k and then 10k. Its due a service now but the weather isn't the best. I go by the rule, if the oil is dirty, change it. I always use Castrol edge oil.
  8. Hi, as long as the oil is the same specification it will be OK .
  9. Hi, we've got a 2019 Scala 1.0 with the 7 speed DSG box....its a great car, you would never guess it puts out 115bhp from that 3 cylinder turbo engine, very smooth As well to drive...hope that helps...
  10. Interesting, I've been dealing via email and the people corresponding back to me seem to be from foreign lands. Next time I get an email I'll ask where they are.
  11. Quick update. The matter has been reported to Skoda UK which may have its customer care centre abroad. I did hear back from Dumfries Skoda. Apparently the service advisor I was dealing with wasn't at work, I don't know if that's the reason none of my emails were answered, my thoughts are that's unlikely TBH. Dumfries Skoda is a micro dealership and I would of thought my emails would of been picked up by somone else...my personal thoughts are nobody gives a toss. It really is a shambles but I've sorted the battery problem myself. Bottom line is you never really know how good a dealership is or how good is the warranty ....until you need it, and then you discover the dealership isn't up to standard and the warranty....is ...well....hopium...be warned
  12. it's beyond words for me but best to just sort it out ourselves. They have been named and shamed so to speak...thanks for your help, your a top guy 🍻
  13. Back on charge this morning, I couldn't find my ctek charger so I'm using this thing from Aldi 😂. I'll just get a new battery, I shall have a look over the weekend, I sent in an email to Skoda service at Dumfries asking for a person in charge details so I can take it up with them.....silence 🤫 ...no response....again! Done with them ! All I'll say is that I am sure there are some decent Skoda garages ....and unfortunately some that clearly don't give a toss...and I'll leave it at that I think.
  14. 😄...pie and a pint if we ever get to meet up one day, bet your not in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
  15. Thanks. I'll buy exactly the same. That left and right bit, reset the steering angle sensor by any chance...
  16. sometimes disconnected. When I tried using the ctek batrery repair function.
  17. Hi, yes it does have stop start, when I charged the battery I disconnected the battery cables but next time I'll do as you say..thanks .
  18. I bet your right as the cranking amps is 320..spot on, thank you
  19. Hi, it's a 2019 1.0 with the DSG box I've had a look before and I remember I think 45 amp hour but I could be wrong.
  20. I know, it's so annoying...I'm beyond words...its just a battery ...I'm not after a new engine...
  21. Further images taken back in middle October.
  22. Hey Guys, It's Been a while since I've posted anything but I have a problem with Dumfries Skoda service department and the warranty I have with my car. So...I bought my wife a new pre registered Skoda Scala during lockdown, the car had a 100% flat battery from sitting outside for over a year, the car had 6 miles on the clock. We paid for it via bank transfer and when we picked it up it was green with algae from sitting, the dealer didn't even wash it. We've had issues with various warning lights and malfunctions, different systems but not limited to lane departure warning, the radio screen is blank, car won't start. Yellow triangle warning light comes on now and again, there have been other issues with other systems and the culprit is the battery. We've tried to get this replaced under warranty but the dealer in Dumfries says the battery is good, I don't agree, I tested the battery myself and it comes up poor / replace. I've sent in a couple of emails to Dumfries Skoda and they are not getting answered, I'm getting ignored, my wife is having to get the train into work as the car won't start, battery voltage is 10. Something volts. I keep having to charge the battery and she can't use the car as once she got stranded as the car wouldn't start. I sent a tweet to Skoda and I never got a response from them. I'm not kidding, I feel very badly let down by Skoda, not just the Dumfries dealership but Skoda as a whole. It seems to be a couldn't care less attitude all round and I am gobsmacked at the lack of professionalism at the Dumfries dealership and Skoda UK. I'm thinking now just to buy a battery myself and then go through small claims court for the battery and all the hassle we have had. Its not the money or the cost of the battery, its the fact we have a warranty and the Dumfries dealership won't honour it. They say the battery is good when clearly it isn't. They also tried to charge us a diagnostic fee if you can believe that. This has been going on for some time, mileage is just turned 8000 so not high. Dealership sold us a car with a defective battery... What to do?
  23. Ah, I don't do that, TBH I can't remember Hyundai, I never worked for them. I've worked for VW & Mazda for about 3 or 4 years. I bumped into a pal of mine that now works at the Nissan side on servicing, he used to work for Western Nissan. I always struggled to get paid from Western group so I dropped them last year.
  24. I'll just say that I've worked at Barnetts as required for over 3 years and I've never seen anyone sucking oil out, even today the oil daleks were in constant use the time I was there. They do appear to be draining oil the old fashioned way. Each to their own eh...for me it's the old fashioned oil drain via the sump plug and fill through camshaft sensor hole. I actually spoke to 3 techs today.
  25. I was told today.. VAG no longer approve of sucking oil out as it can leave undue residue in the bottom of the sump. The drain plug must be removed and old oil drained. To refill the 1.0 turbo engine, remove the camshaft sensor and refill using a funnel. Barnetts do not suck the old oil out.
