thanks for the great thread. I'm a useless newbie and liked the look of your mod. I spotted this on youtube

But need clarification (just so I can get the process right in my head)

After looking at vrstu's images for pin out diagrams (thanks vrstu) for the stream I am not 100% sure where to put the 3 wires.

please could you advise on this and also confirm that the stream (in 05 octavia II) will play music from MP3 input.

The options offered were Alpine type X Pro series speakers or DLS K6 speakers or for £199 fitted the DLS C series (C6A).

I think I am going to leave it for now and keep my eye open for offers on decent speaker uprade.

Thanks for all replies. I have been to visit and audio specialist who suggested a 3-way component set if it would be easy and cost effective to get new 3 speaker door cards. However for the cards alone they are £175. So that is that idea out of the window. As another option they have offered to fit 2 way components with a couple of brands to choose from. This would start from £130 fitted (they charge £30 to fit). So I will have a think about the options. Any further suggestions appreciated. I am aware of the thread on Octavia poor speaker fix but that gets to complicated for a diy numpty like me

Just wondered if anyone had attempted to upgrade from 8 speakers to 12 speakers like the option that was available for 3x speakers in each door. I also wanted to know if this would improve the sound quality of the system. But like I said I am completely useless at diy and wouldnt have a clue that it would damage the HU. :rotz:

I have an Octavia II and after trawling throught the threads on the site I could not find anything on upgrading OE speakers from standard 8 to 12. I am completely useless at diy but it may be an option to get this done if it is possible.

Has anyone attempted this?

Would it be possible to replace the tweeters and add the additional speakers?

Any help on this would be appreciated.

How hard is it to operate the existing prop? It's not as if you need to open the bonnet when your arms of full of stuff is it....

Hi No Waiting, you are correct, it isn't that hard to operate the existing prop. I do feel that a strut is more substantial/secure that a prop. That maybe just me though. If many other VAG products have the strut then why not Skoda Octavia's?

ESP should be standard across all VAG products. I also second the bonnet strut. I was suprised that the Octavia II didnt have a bonnet strut.

Also the sound system needs reworking. Although it isnt the worst sound system I've heard.

Can anyone advise on how to change the lid of the compartment on top of the dash board. The silver trim has come off on the thin trim on the lid and it looks scruffy. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have recently traded my Seat Toledo (Se TDi on 02 plate) for an Octavia II 2.0 TDi Elegance (on an 05 plate). I was choosing between the Passat and Octavia but after looking at the Passat I felt that the Octavia was the better car. Maybe it was the Passat I test drove, but it creaked and clunked and did not feel as comfortable or as well built as the Octavia. Also the Octavia was rated as more reliable by JD power. So hopefully I've spent my money wisely.
