  1. Fluid changes vary considerably depending on manufacturers yet they all use the same stuff! Under extreme conditions and a period of very harsh driving it is possible the fluid will overheat prematurely if it is contaminated with moisture. This will cause a condition known as brake fad but in normal driving it is most unlikely to make any difference whatsoever to the emergency stopping distance. Manufacturers are covering their backs, quite wisely in our sue culture world but if DIY servicing, a tester will quickly establish the actually condition of the fluid. 5 or even 10 year old fluid can often prove to be still serviceable.
  2. Moisture in the brake fluid can lead to brake fad but it takes some extremely hard driving braking from high speeds to get hot enough for that actually happen in a modern car. Otherwise, it will normally make absolutely no difference to the stopping distance whatsoever and certainly not to a single emergency stop. Ex vehicle examiner
  3. Totally agree. At this time my octavia 3 has done 32000. Such failings would be wholly unacceptable. I always reckon on at least 100000 before any significant replacements, including in most cases , brakes on the cars i have owned over many years. My son has my old mk1 with 170000 on the clock and it is still pretty much original including the clutch. Other than 'pilot' error, such premiture wear is down to poor quality.
  4. Yes this did include a vehicle check report plus a wash and vac.
  5. Certainly of interest but does this include a full vehicle check, wash and vac etc I am well aware that main dealer servicing is generally very over priced.
  6. My car was new in May 2016. Quoted £280 for an oil change service by Hughes in Aylesbury after just 8000 miles and little more than an oil service costing well over £300 in 2017 so fell off my chair. The car has now only done 25000 so nothing major due yet. Rightly thought that they were having a giraffe as i am very aware of what an oil change involves. Booked a fixed price service with Citygate Slough to ensure no warranty issues as the car is less than 3 years old and accepted £169.00 as acceptable. Whilst I could have changed the oil and filter etc myself for around £50.00 i neither touch modern engines nor attempt to play with the computers so i thought the car report and overall customer service including a vehicle clean was pretty good. The fixed quote for the next service 36000 is £278.00 which is certainly competetive against my previous indendent service agent who looked after my diesel skoda for over 13 years, the biannual routine services were usually at least £300 + but diesel timing belt changes are a hell of a lot more than the petrol cars so reckon all will work ok
