  1. You can, I ran 8s in mine for a while. Only thing you have to remember is making sure the door trim fits back on. Mine ended up looking rather messy as i had to keep adjusting them
  2. Im looking to replace my Boot seal. I know Skoda wont give me a part number so wondering if anyone knows the part number for the boot seal on a mk2 pre facelift hatchback. Ive been looking and found 1Z5 827 705 A but I believe this is for the estate.
  3. My VRS is 2006 with 146k on the clock. I made my mind up last year that I will keep it until I absolutely have to replace it. Using the VRS as an example. Id have to spend 10-12k to get something newer (mk3) with similar spec. Ive had the turbo rebuilt as the actuator ceased due to part of the EGR cooler getting wedged in it. Bar that the car has been faultless for the 80k ive had it.
  4. The Osram Xenarc are terrible. I bought some a while back and changed them very quickly. I use Philips Xtreme Vision Gen2 and they are very good. The new nightbreaker Laser's are rated to be even better. Colour temp is the light spectrum. 5k is white. As you go above this you go to blue then eventually purple. As you go above it the amount of useable light reduces. As you go below 5k you get yellower light. Halogen is around 2.5-3k. The blue you see on halogen bulbs is there to remove part of the spectrum to give the illusion of white light, infact its just less light and the white part of the spectrum is visible. Proper xenon bulbs should last 10 years or more. My bulbs were 8 or 9 years old when I changed but if i wanted to there was life left in them.
  5. Also, if you do have a fl vrs make sure you are aware of this when an MOT tester says your sidelights dont work
  6. Its takes the data signal from the canbus input and changes it into a switched live.
  7. If someone has run led's or hids in your car previously they may have burned the projector bowls. This reduces output so those running HID's or LED's in halogen projectors will be slowly damaging the lights. This could be why your Nightbreakers dont appear as good as they previously did. You will also need to know a friendly MOT tester as if they go by the book anything other than Halogen in a Halogen designed headlamp is a fail.
  8. The cable is available from Connects2. Its a quad block iso adaptor which comes with a box that gives you a switches live. Saves having to run extra cables etc
  9. It was the main carpark. This was a few years ago, im not talking about now or anything. Definetely around 6" up there when I got there. The snow was coming down quick as even with a hot engine it was managing to cover the car very quickly. We stayed there for 5 minutes and decided to go lol
  10. I took my VRS up the cairngornes when there was 6"+ of snow when I got to the top. Sencible driving and I had no problems with Goodyear efficent Grips. Id say your issue is simply your are expecting too much from your normal road tyres and best to go for Winter tyres if you feel you will have a lot of snow.
  11. AH is not really very useful in car batteries as its the number of amps the battery can give out in 1hour (also shown in other time periods aswell). CCA is cold cranking amps, thats what is important for starting the car. especially for diesels. The Octavia VRS does have a small battery really as standard (only a 60ah and 600cca iirc). Upgrading this will help with starting but unless you have extra drain on the battery upgrading it is a waste of time. They have AGM batteries as standard, not Lead Acid (i know its a form of lead acid but they still considered 2 different types). Which is far superior anyway. Batteries are only really given a 5 year life expectancy now, unless you spend a fortune on a high end battery.
  12. As mentioned above, the build is definetly faulty. The problem is known as "pinking". Most likely a manufacturing defect. I used the xenarc's and wasnt very happy with the so I upgraded to Philips xtreme vision D1s. Certainly an improvement. Fitting the bulbs wont be an issue, you have to remove the light from the car so it wont be connected. They are designed to make changing the bulb pretty easy to reduce risk of damaging the bulb.
  13. Something like the Columbus wont be at the bottom of the scale BUT nor would it be rated as high quality. It will still have a low output built in amp, something like 10w per channel. They do this because if the columbus had a great amp they wouldnt see the canton add-on which has an additional amp. Ive also listened to canton, bose, B&O, Dynaudio setups in vag cars and tbh the only half decent one was the B&O in the current A4. I'd still have points such as the centre speaker not doing anything so the stage was still focused to the site you are sat on. Pioneer and Alpine I believe do pure units now. Pioneer do a unit which you and physically attach your phone to and install an app on your phone to run the headunit
  14. A higher quality source unit WILL sound better than a cheap one. That is a fact
  15. Imperial have a Hunter setup. Kwick Fit in Devizes also have one and know how to use it. Kwick Fit in chippenham have one but dont have a clue what they are doing. Cost wise, its worth while paying the £99 for a kwick fit package as you get the initial setup then more adjustments for the following year without charge. Ive never actually been told "you dont have any adjustments left" so i guess they dont actually note it down. This covers all kwick fit stores throughout the country.
  16. Thats a beast of a wiper arm puller! I'd just get a new one. They are throw away parts really. I tried getting life back into mine and had no luck
  17. I dont need to own one to know that what I said is correct. If you are happy with yours then fine, but people in this thread have already reported them regretting buying them. Im not going to start saying things are poorly made etc if its wrong. Cheap car audio is made in build houses. The "manufacturer" goes to them with a list of things they want, they choose the cheapest way of making that then give them a price. If you think any R&D has gone into them and any effort has gone into them then you need to think again. The pioneer/Alpine units are a mix of oem fit and double din. But they do Andriod units which are far far superior to these ebay specials. I really cant see why anyone would buy one.
  18. Thats because they are ALL basically the same unit. They will be from a chinese build house built as cheaply as humanly possible. Then, front pannels fitted for various cars to be "specific" to certain cars. These headunits are cheaply made using poor quality parts. They might be full to bursting with a spec but certainly not worth it, especially when people like Alpine and Pioneer make units just the same.
  19. It can just die, mine did. Not that pricey and easy to remove in the Hatchback as you have seen. Id just buy a new one
  20. Ended up that a flap from the EGR cooler broke off and made its way into the turbo, broke apart and siezed the actuator arm. First garage didnt even take the turbo off before saying a new one was needed. Used my normal mechanic when he was back off holiday and he found the above issue. Turbo re-built and car driving better than ever. Really shows the difference bewteen a real mechanic and a garage "technician"
  21. Had it in the garage. The actuator arm going into the turbo has seased. Looking at a new turbo or if im lucky a new actuator.
  22. Few people have said that. Its quite inconsistent which is anoying. I know when I take it to the garage I use it wont do it lol
  23. Ive got a mk2 pre fl vrs derv (pd170) and when I put my foot down it judders as the revs build. Not continuous, it will judder, carry on building up speed and revs, then judder again etc. Also, when I turn the engine off it doesnt sound very smooth....could they be related? The car is mapped and RR'd @ 225bhp but it really doesnt feel like it at the moment. Any help, much appreciated
  24. Any double or single din unit will fit. You need to make sure you buy the correct loom adaptor. The cheap ones dont work, you one which says its for steeringwheel control fitted cars
  25. Hi Rob, You will need the one for steering wheel controls even if you dont have them. It uses the box as part of the wiring kit to create a fake switched live. You will need to make sure your pioneer will fit unless you will need a adaptor. You aren't overthinking it, newer cars with canbus are a pain lol Also, congratulations on being sensible and not buying one of these nasty chineese ebay specials like most people seem to do on here
