  1. Hi: I've an 05 Octavia TDI 102,000 miles that seems to be blowing colder air than the vents into the passenger footwell even on highest setting. The air coming from the dashboard vents is hot enough. I'm not sure how hot the engine was but would say normal temp at a guess.

  3. I have an oil leak and need some help identifying what it is that's leaking. There is a cylindrical metal object slightly protruding from the engine cover in front of the front offside wheel - PAS pump? Steering rack maybe?

    Any help much appreciated!

Hi: I've an 05 Octavia 1.9TDI 99,000 miles and it was leaking oil from underneath the turbo pipe. It can happen if you're not driving the car hard enough, not sure the correct way of it but it's oil that builds up because the turbo's not being used. I drive like a granny so can't argue. Apparently turbo diesels need to be flogged now and again to keep them breathing right. You can buy stuff to pour into the tank called Cataclean, a mechanic sold it to me but most motor factors have it. It cleans the cat, turbo, valves etc and other parts that need it. It's about £16 I used it on mine and it's fine now.

Mst likely this is what's causing it.

  4. just back from a service and been advised i have an oil leak from the EGR valve, i do have a warranty on the car but this isnt a named component so isnt covered

as i understand it, it doesnt carry any oil, however oil may collect in it from the turbo/intake etc

been given a quote of 232 inc vat

if its leaking some oil, surely i only need a gasket ?

  6. Octavia L&K 1.9 diesel engine, 53 plate.

I appear to have a small / slow oil leak. There is oil on the bottom inch or so inside the front of the driver's side wheel arch, and a small amount on the underside of the front bumper area. I found a patch of oil on the ground under this area yesterday which alerted me to the problem - but being in a public area, I cannot guarantee it is from my vehicle(!), so the extent may be minor at the moment. Dried the area last night, had small amount of fresh wet oil in the same area today, although no patch on the ground.

Oil light has not come on, and there is plenty oil still in the tank.

    Any (sensible) suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks.

  9. Hello everyone i need help, have a 05 Fabia VRS with 117,000 miles just had full service. I was changing both bottom arms today and noticed an oil leak, after some investigating i found a fair bit of oil is coming from where the EGR valve joins on the the cast bit to the right, it is enough to drip all the way down the engine an on to the pan. Car drives fine, if anyone can help i would really appreciate it many thanks Billybob

  10. EGR assembly?

If so the EGR will vent some oil from the crank case breather, however my knowledge is not based on the PD engine.....

Thanks for your reply. The oil's coming from the turbo pipe. It's not breathing properly and getting clogged up somewhere forcing oil out because I don't drive the car hard enough, doesn't get long runs just tiddling around town. Got some cataclean for it which you put into the tank and it cleans parts of the engine!

  11. Hi: I've an 05 Octavia 1.9 TDI PD and there's a bit which is leaking oil. It sits behind the copper coil and the other end of the timing belt. It's holes in the end of it and has like a long tail. It's bolted onto something else. Sorry but that's as descriptive as I can be. Does anyone know what it is? Thanks!

  12. Hi: I've an O5 Octavia and there's a line of green damp gets in the bottom of the headlight just at the lip. My 1st model Octavia headlights used to get it too. I can't clean it because it's not accessible and they're expensive to replace. Even if I did it would always happen again. Just have to live with it but it's annoying anyone else find this happens?

  13. Hi: I've recently had new front tyres fitted and my steering wheel is slightly of centre. Have had all the alignment done including 4-wheel and got it a bit better so just have to leave it now as I can't think of anything else to do.(see my posting about it under Shadow.1) I'm hoping that it might improve when the tyres are scrubbed in a bit. Anybody agree/disagree or have a similair experience?

  14. Got my car back from Audi today, who tell me that the front Toe measurements were out and needed adjusting "AGAIN, for the 5th time". Having only driven it about 10miles back home in traffic, Im not overly convinced it is 100% fixed, although it does appear to be better. I asked Audi for a copy of the print out from the alignment, but their printer is being upgraded, so are going to post a copy to me. When Ive got the print out Im going back to the dealer, to compare this print out with the previous 4 and ask them why it keeps being out and needing adjustment, which will in the mean time allow me chance to properly test the car and decide if its fixed or not.

Thanks for your reply: Took my car to Magowan Tyre & Auto N'abbey and got 4-wheel alignment done by what they said was a specialist machine (only a few in NI apparently) I think it's helped slightly, difficult to say for sure. According to them the alignment was out from when ATS done it (got a printout to show me) but steering wheel is still out. I'm not sure that anybody understands what the problem is so I'll just have to leave it as can't think of anything else to do and see if gets any better when the new tyres are scrubbed in a bit.

  15. Hi: I've just got new front tyres on my Octavia and discovered the steering wheel wasn't straight when I got home. The wheel was fine before I got them on. I took it back and they adjusted the alignment again but it didn't fix it. Took it back second time and this time they said the rear end was out. They fiddled about at that but again it was no better. I got it checked at ATS and they said that the alignment was slightly out and adjusted it which has improved it a good bit. The steering wheel is still slightly of centre to the left and can't straighten it without veering toward the middle of the road. ATS said it might be due to a worn track rod end. The pressures are correct.

When I got the new tyres on the spare was swapped for one of the fronts (a different wheel on) would that have made a difference.

Any ideas what it is anyone?

  16. you could try getting the gearbox oil replaced ..... there was a service bulletin about it a lot of months back and after getting it done to mine it made my gearbox a lot easier to get on with.

Thanks Gene looks like you have a similar car to me I was just reading about someone else who got that done and cured their car!

  17. Hi: I've an 05 1.9 TDI Octavia diesel with 98,000 miles on and sometimes it's very hard to get any gears on it also crunching when selecting reverse. I'm suspecting that it might be due a new clutch. I bought the car second hand and don't think it's ever had one although I could be wrong. Is there anything else it might be and should I just put up with it until it gets worse or goes completely?
