  1. Aha, how does it drive, any noticeable difference ? I see you mention no chattering at idle which is encouraging Is this the correct kit ? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/370744762387?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
  2. Hi peeps, after a bit of advice if poss... Went to pull away the other day and couldn't engage gear, clutch pedal stayed down when I took my foot off. Hoped it was just a hydrolic problem but after getting car to a garage it's been confirmed the clutch and dmf is knacked :( The car is a 2006 tfsi with 68k on the clock and is standard form other than a stage one remap at about 240bhp that's been on there for the past 4 months. It also tow's our family caravan which I'm sure doesn't help even though I try to drive smoothly and sympathetically when towing. The mechanic has recommended I convert to a solid mass flywheel. I'm a little worried about this and can't find anyone that has done this with a petrol mk2 vrs?? Will this give the awful idle noise and chatter or will it be silent as a dmf on a 'petrol'? Would it still drive as smoothly ? The mechanic has advised this would suit the car and handle towing better than the dmf. It's also obviously cheaper than replacing with dmf. I have found seen sach dmf kits on eBay for around £450 though so it's not that much cheaper, been advised the smf would be around £300 Any advice greatly appreciated as I need to let the mechanic know my desision soon as I can. Many thank
  3. thanks for the tips mate, i did a full paint correction on my octy last weekend, but ran out of time and didn't get the poor boys black hole in time to apply so will post it up soon as ive got that machined on, had time to remove and do the wheels and arches and put a layer of colli on top ;-) Next car ive got after that is a Z3, hoping to get that done in one day as its a fair bit smaller and theres no roof to correct - looking forward to doing that one
  4. think thats what i need to do , plan the day better, spend to much time wandering round admiring the difference in the car as i go, and thinking what bit to tackle next. If your correcting by machine and using a compound first before finishing polish do you do the entire car with the harsher compound then go over the entire car with the finishing polish and pad ( guess to save keep swapping pads?) of do the entire finish on a panel at a time?
  5. amazing work mate you must work at 100mph! do you relax as your working on a job in that time scale or run from one job to the next getting hot and bothered. wish i could work to such a professional level at that speed - how long did the actual machining take. don't suppose you could give a mini rundown of each main job against hours spent could you ? like machining = 4hr, wheels = 2hr, glass = 1hr sort of thing? be interesting to read - congrats!
  6. Cheers, thats pretty much what i did with the 750, only that was stored during the day were as my octy would still be my day to day car between doing the panel
  7. Thanks mate, he was over the moon with the car ;-) Cant wait to get my Octy detailed, will of course post up soon as i have ;-) Think its going to be a case of doing the odd panel per evening weather permitted so gonna take me a while to complete, which brings me on to a question actually ;-) If I was to do one panel an eve would you recommend finishing that panel with polish, sealant and wax before starting on the next or complete the machining day by day then polish, seal and wax in one go after ?
  8. Yer funny you say that, my mate has only recently bought the car and I did have a look at a few other with him first, he'd read the same avoid 740, go for 728 for a nice smooth cruiser or 750 for the same but with the grin factor power wise. Incredible machine though, that ones an individual blue sport - apparently only 7 made to same spec. The double glazing on the windows makes it incredibly quiet with all windows up, you can cruise at 70+ and hold conversations whispering with the same road noise as rolling at 20mph! The surge when you put your foot down though is amazing, not like any other car ive been in, cant feel it change through the gears, just feels like your on an endless surge of forward force. The only thing i can compare to the feeling is before you take off in a plane - the force into your seat as you accelerate down the runway
  9. Thanks mate ;-) it is a lovely blue, wanted an octavia in race blue originally but the right model showed up in black in the end, still hopefully that will look just as nice when I've done it
  10. Hi guys, posted a little while ago on what to spend spare cash on with regards to my black octavia vrs, decided i would by the DAS-6 polishing machine kit from cleanyourcar. Was intending to do my car but ended up doing a friends BMW 750 first as he was off on holiday and i could have the car for over a week to work on. Heres my post on detailing world: http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=172186 Hopefully I get the octavia done soon and post that up aswell ;-) Be happy if i can get similar results
  11. Yer that true, not checked how much insurance would increase yet... cars just had a new mot though so shes good for a year ;-)
  12. ;-) yer my heart says number 4 as well, although i guess it would be a bit silly do 5 without first doing 1 ;-) Was also thinking regarding warranty my money my be better spent on vag-com or similar so if something did go wrong i dont have to pay loads of labour for diagnosing faults and could then just by which ever sensor fail's and possibly replace myself both my previous tdi cars had been treated to a remap and they did give the biggest smile for the money... although the clutch started to slip on the tdi passat remap a few months later - that was a 2003 car with 120,000 miles on though ;-)
  13. Hi Guys, just had my cambelt changed on my oct vrs, had a full service day before i got it so all is running good at the mo ;-) I have about £300 left of my budget for the car to spend on her and cant decide what to spend it on ;-) Just after a few opinions to help me decide ;-): 1 - get small dent and tiny paintwork chip sorted on bottom of door 2 - get all the wheels refurbed to look like new ( good anyway but couple of curb marks) 3 - pay out for a 3rd party warranty, never had one on a car before and this is the newest car I have ever owned 4 - save a few more £'s and go for a remap 5 - pay a detailer to go over the car and do all paint correction to take out any swirl and cobwebs in clear coat from car wash's ( some will think pointless but im a bit ocd when it comes to cleaning, polishing and reflections ;-) ) 6 - put it away in case anything goes wrong in near future 7 - invest in a load of sound deadening material to make her nice a quiet road noise wise hehe decisions decisions - wonder what the most popular reply would be ? cheers ;-)
  14. cheers guys, i didi find a few gates kits on ebay but cant find the correct one for a 2006 2.0 petrol. ill keep searching, my friend works at nationwide autocenter and can get everything including labour for £250 which sounds good to me but he suggested i might be able to get the parts cheaper on the net.
  15. Hi All Can anyone recommend a good place to purchase a timing belt kit and waterpump for my 2006 octavia petrol vrs ? I have a mate that works in a garage happy to fit it, just need to buy the parts, cant find the kit for mine on ebay anywhere ?
  16. Well after speaking to the dealers they said it was ok to continue to drive the car for the day and could run a can on it for me at 4pm this afternoon. Whilst driving around this afternoon though the car felt fine and the light has since gone out! Think ill get on and get that aftermarket warrenty sorted and wait and see if it comes up again or was just a false alarm. ;-)
  17. oh dear ;-( no warrenty, i bought the car privatly - whats the common problem? expensive ??? ;-(

  19. Hi Chaps, beem really enjoying my new (to me) car since i picked it up on wednesday. Been on the motorway today for 2nd time going out for a camping trip to new forest. Car drove perfect coming out here, i parked up then the other half took the car back up to the reception to pay for our say and the engine managment light has come on. just the symbol, not he EPC. Checked the book and it says problem with exhaust component system ;-(. There is a skoda dealer out here "meadons of sway" so will be going there first thing tomorow morning to see whats happended. Any idea what it could be - a dirty maf maybe ?, any idea on cost if it is, or is there a better replacement at a good price, rather than one direct from the dealers ? Any advice appreciated, anything i should try before going to dealers ? Many thanks in advance, will connect back to internet later, im on a crappy slow 2g like here in the sticks!
  20. Thanks mate, no mods plan for now, going to spend any spare cash getting her back to showroom condition paint and wheels wise ;-) Any recommendations for slight scratch and wheel refurb in Southampton anyone ? I've also got a very small dent/scrap on bottom of drivers door. hoping i can get all little scratch in clear coat, small dent on door and any curbing sorted on alloys for change or £500 - sound doable ?
  21. Hi Guys, I've already been posting in the Octavia 2 section but just thought id say hello in the right section ;-) I Have just purchased a 2006 black magic petrol Octavia Vrs. Over the moon with the car, only picked it up yesterday, my last 2 cars have been diesels (b5 passat tdi sport, then bmw 330d) So im really enjoying the change back to petrol, thought long and hard about going to a TDI again but in the end wih my small 6-7k a year decided petrol was the choice for me after driving both. Looking foward to becoming part of the briskoda forums, been reading threads for a while now - you seem a very friendly and helpful bunch ;-)
  22. loving my new 2006 octavia vrs

  23. Cheers guys ;-) yer im very glad i went with the petrol in the end, need to get a couple of thing sorted - few very light scratches in paintwork, a little ding on lower drivers door and alloy refurb as theres a little bit or curbing on 3 wheels. can anyone recommend a good place to get all that sorted for under £500 in southampton ? Still getting used to the clutch and having difficulty changing smoothly without a little jerk between changes engaging gear , guess its going to take me a while after being used to the 330d with a 5 speed box ;-) don't want to be anywhere other than behind the wheel at the moment ;-) Dont think i'll bother with a remap for a fair while, its more than enough power for me for now ;-) oh and can anyone recommend a good place price wise to have a cambelt change in southampton, been quoted £370 from freeborn skoada
  24. Im SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy ;-) Just got back to work after doing a fab deal and driving the car away today! Is a black 2006 petrol vrs with 48k full history, parking sensors, auto climate, 18" wheels, full round elec windows and jumbo armrest! What a car these octavia vrs's are, cant think of anything more i'd want, love the seats, power, smoothness of a petrol again, lovely little rasp on acceleration sure ill be posting questions as time goes on and i get to know it ;-) wwwooooooooooooohooooooo ;-) Will post pics once shes polished up
  25. Hi All, couldn't view the petrol car I liked last night in the end, his wife had forgotten I was coming to view and had gone out for the evening in the car!! Anyway second chance, going to try again in my lunch hour today - fingers crossed ;-) Will post the outcome!
