  1. Hi. Had my VRS Estate for a couple of years now and I still have the amber warning light on the dash telling me there is a problem with the lighting, however all the bulbs are working. I've been told by a couple of people that it's because the car has had a replacement screen and the camera for lane assist hasn't been re calibrated. On the screen it's saying lane assist isn't available so it's possibly correct. Has anyone had the same issue? Find it a bit strange an unrelated issue would give a lighting warning.
  2. Only really want to get a light turned off even if its temporarily whilst I run the car and see if my initial problem (disappearing coolant) has been fixed.
  3. Hi Can anyone recommend a fault reader/ diagnostic scanner which will enable you to turn off the emissions warning light as well as reading the error codes?
  4. I'm going to drop into a local VW specialist tomorrow to ask their opinion.
  5. Hi. Have been experiencing a loss of coolant for quite a while (VRS tdi) and has recently become worse. Used to be 3 weeks between needing a top up now its down to less than one. I believe that the most common culprits are leaky waterpumps and possibly EGR valve? However I'm wondering if anyone has had a head crack because on a few occasions on startup the engine has refused to initially turn over, I've never experienced a hydraulic lock before so don't know how this manifests itself. The car is due a cam belt/ waterpump change but am reluctant to get that done if I've got other issues elsewhere. Oil consumption is also quite heavy. Car runs fine with no loss of power.
  6. It's not long had a new battery, does seem to be working better now, just not 100%
  7. Gave the screen a good clean and tried them again this morning. They did work but not perfectly. On a couple of occasions they kept on wiping for quite a while after the rain had stopped and the screen was dry. Guess its just the way they are.
  8. Thanks. I don't yet know what is causing the problem but my wipers just seem to work like standard intermittent ones, ie you put them on and they merrily sweep away at a constant speed and moving the sensitivity adjuster just increases the frequency of the sweep regardless of the amount of rain. They also seem to work as soon as you turn on the ignition and not when you move off.
  9. Can anyone tell me if the autowipers were to fail for any reason the system would revert automatically back to a conventional manual intermittent type?
  10. Cheers thanks. Have just bought a well worn 500 quid car to use while my current one sells (hopefully) and I can start the search for an Octavia.
  11. Hi, after nearly 3 years away I'm seriously thinking about a return to a VRS estate. Have owned two mk2s in the past, both diesel and petrol manual models and loved them both. This time I'd like to try a DSG. Probably be looking at a 14 or 15 plate MK3 diesel , up to 60k for between 11 to 13k. Any known problems with the MK3s?
  12. Hi. After a few years away from the Skoda brand I'm thinking about getting a yeti. Problem is things have moved on since I was last on here when the models were s, se and elegance. Now there are adventure, outdoor and Monte carlo models as well. Can anyone tell me briefly what the latter models are and which would be the best to go for? My basic requirements are 4x4, at least 140bhp, cruise control and preferably xenon lights and sat nav. Not sure about gearbox, i did test drive a 140 dsg some years ago but didnt like the lack of paddle shift. Thanks
  13. Anyone in the Warwickshire area got access to VCDS? Yellow engine light came on this morning. Don't mind paying someone just don't want the hassle of booking it in and leaving it at the dealers. Thank you
  14. Thank you very much. Any idea what bulb I will need?
  15. Before i spend hours trawling the net how much of a job is changing a sidelight bulb on a pre facelift with zenons? If the headlamp is taken out and the wiring disconnected does the car store a fault code and leave the bulb illuminated on the dash? Ive had my hand round the corner of the headlamp but only managed to find the indicator bulb so far. Advice much appreciated.
  16. Would love to have a peek at the bank account of the judge that originally found him not guilty of murder. A jury would have taken 5 minutes to return a guilty verdict
  17. me too, managed to get the obligatory black visor as well. Bell and AVG were considered the dogs danglies back in the day.
  18. Think the problem with a lot of nakeds is that they are built to a tight budget and so the suspension quality suffers. That said I don't understand how manufacturers can get the basic set up so wrong.
  19. Maybe a hundred quid (I would imagine )or so but not 7k!
  20. Have to be honest and say I hated the street triple. Brilliant motor let down by terrible front suspension and ergonomics. The front suspension seemed to have virtually no high speed compression damping which meant not much in the way of damping if hitting any sharp bumps such as slightly raised or sunken manhole covers or repaired potholes. On a smooth surface it was fine but on your average single carriageway road was horrible. I suspect that the R is probably much better as there is at least some adjustability in the front forks. For me at least the riding position was uncomfortable with too much of a lean forward which put a lot of weight onto my wrists. The seat also has a profile which causes you to slide forward into the tank which in turn results in even more load on the wrists. I fitted a deeper Triumph comfort seat which I had re profiled and 20 mm bar risers which helped but in the end I decided I just wasn't enjoying riding it. I should point out that I am 53 and have suffered two broken wrists in the past so a younger person that has stronger joints and enjoys having their balls given a good pummelling might not feel the same!
  21. I've had the same for the 3 years that I have owned the car,it is irritating but as it's only its only noticeable when changing gear quickly Ive just learnt to live with it.I would change the switch on the clutch pedal if I knew where to find it.
  22. Have been into bikes from very young .Went the usual route (for people of a certain age ) of moped (suzuki A50P) then onto an RD 250. Gave up riding bikes until about 96 when I bought an RGV 250. That was followed by a CBR 600,Fireblade,ZX7R And a GSXR 600.Decided then sportsbikes were too uncomfortable and fast so had a couple of KTM 640 supermotos and a Triumph street triple. Currently have a 40 year old Honda 550 and a DRZ 400.
