  1. My car wasn't used for around 3 to 4 weeks durning the lockdown. Although it started fine the brakes briefly felt kind of binded, but they quickly loosened off as I began to drive. However the car is making a kind of of low noise thumping and grinding sound, possibly from the wheels when I apply the brakes. I thought it would dissapear once I'd driven it around town a few times. I don't use the car a huge amount, but the noise has remained the same. Any help would be appreciated as to what might be causing this.

  2. I have Skoda Octavia  2013 and it failed its MOT due to a fault in the Headlight adjustment mechanism.

Basically the adjustment wheel on the dashboard which increases or lowers the height of the beam is only controlling the Nearside headlight, while the Offside is stuck in one position. I've been told it might be the motor that's faulty. Has anyone heard of this before and how easy it to replace if needed.

    Any help really appreciated.

  3. It is best to replace the whole tensioner if it is old enough that the pulley has gone, the whole assembly only has a service life of 60,000 miles according to the manufacturer. I paid about £75 for the genuine INA part. Belt is about £10 for Conti belt. You have to ask why it failed. Often they can fail because the alternator pulley has failed. That pulley is between £30-40 for genuine INA parts. I am sure you can get cheaper bits if you want to do the job twice... :)

Thanks, I've decided to get the timing belt changed and serviced at same time, which together is costing £290.

  4. On the motorway today, my Skoda Superb 2006 displayed the battery light and I lost power steering. I had to call the AA and was told that the Auxiliary Tensioner pulley had broken, which had stopped charging the battery and lost power to steering, water pump etc.

Would anyone have an idea of cost to get it replaced at a garage?

  5. I have manual controlled driver seat and the the lever at the front which allows the seat to slide back and forward has broken. I think the cable has snapped. Does anyone have any experience on fixing this. I didn't realise this now part of MOT so desperately need to get it fixed.

    Any help appreciated.

  6. I have a 2006 Superb 1.9tdi I've recently had the flywheel and clutch replaced.

I went out on a fairly long journey today, and encountered a continuous issue. When cruising at around 65mph and over the car seemed to struggle for power, I seemed to feel it occasionally mildly misfire every 30 minutes or so.

I've had the car for around 3 years and have always found it to be rock solid and stable on the road, yet today it was a real worry to feel it struggle in this way.

Can anyone suggest what could be causing this or how best to diagnose, thanks.

  7. I've got a radiator leak which m,eans I'm having to put water into it almost daily.

I've been quoted £250 to get it replaced and fitted. Having just forked out £850 for a flywheel/ clutch replacement, I can't really afford it.

Has anyone used Radweld to fix a radiator leak?

  8. I'm noticing a distinct heat in the car when I enter the car after its been switched off and parked, ether overnight or through the day. Although I can't hear any heater fan running, the car is quite hot, including in the glove box, even though of course it can be colder outside than in the car, with no sunshine on it. Can anyone advise what could be causing this? Its a 2006 1.9td.

  9. I have a Skoda Superb Sept 2006 diesel, I need an offside wing mirror. A breaker 40 miles away has one which has come off a 2004 car, don't want to make a wasted trip. Would it fit my 2006 model, my car's wing mirrors do not have built in indicators. Can anyone confirm if it would fit. Any help appreciated

  10. Not sure if this has been asked before.

I have a Superb and replaced the standard CD player with a non-skoda CD/MP3 player. However I've noticed that when the engine is switched off the player resets itself completely. Losing all prest, radio stations and cd/mp3 track position.

Anyone why this is happening? I know its not a fault with the audio system as i've just taken it out of another can in the family,

    Any help appreciated.
