MY BRAKE LIGHTS ARE NOT ACTIVATING - A COIL SYMBOL HAS NOW APPEARED ON THE FACIA. I HAVE CHECKED BULBS AND FUSES BUT ALL OK. WHAT NEXT
check to see that it has not come loose from its mounting,,if it has put it back and some insulation tape tight around it to stop it coming loose again,if it has not come loose while you are their take it off and bring it with you when you are getting the new one so you can get the same one,,good luck,and take care,,,,,

HI, had the same problem with the egg smell,have you tried to scan for fault codes, or pending codes,mine was the EGR valve. that could be something to do with it,sometimes it can get stuck with carbon ,hope you get it sorted out soon, all the bestHope anyone can help I have a MK1 Octavia Vrs yellow 2002 the car has done about 50k and I dont usually hammer it or anything like that however the other day I gave it a bit on the motorway and noticed a very strong eggy (sulphur) smell even when i pulled up it smelt all around the car now whenever I rev more than around 3lk revs the engine seems to splutter or miss fire hard to explain as I am no mechanic but if i rev it all the way to 8k when static and in neutral it is clear as a bell with nice turbo sound anybody any ideas
btw it drives rough when first started cold then clears up after about 5 mins if that is anything to do with it

Also suggest you learn what the caps lock key is!
For a 1.9 PD, any VW505.1 oil (fixed) VW506.1 oil (variable) or VW507.0
If you have a DPF VW507.0 oil for everything.
The variable oils can be used for fixed servicing also.

Has anyone had a rattle from their tailgate?
It happens over rough roads but I think I can reproduce it when shutting the boot. It seems to rattle from the left hand side near where the gas strut attaches to the hatch lid.
Everything seems tight and I'm having difficulty tracing it further.
Just wondered if anyone else had it and what the fix might be?
I HAD THE SAME..IT WAS THE NUMBER PLATE ,,THE CENTER OF IT HAD COME AWAY JUST ENOUGH TO VIBRATE WHEN I ACCELERATED ,I THOUGHT THE EXHAUST HAD COME LOOSE,,

Oil for 1.9 PD engines is 5W 40 fully syntetic vw spec 505.01 (fixed service)
5W 30 fully synthetic 507.00 (variable service)
And the halfords oils are acutally just rebranded Comma products so they should be fine, although I tend to stick to castrol

The inlet manifold gaskets should be replaced, but they're not under much pressure so "on a whim" I would have re-used it after giving it a clean off.
I USED THE OLD GASKET AS I NEEDED THE CAR BACK ON THE ROAD,ASAP,IT SEEMS TO BE SEALED OK,

For a proper EGR clean, the inlet manifold really needs to be removed completely and thoroughly cleaned. Then you can also get a finger in and clean the inlet ports on the head as well.
I have avoided having to do this by fitting an EGR over 4 years ago! Clean as a whistle, my manifold/intake

MY OCTAIVA 1.6 I STARTED TO RUN VERY ROUGH I THOUGHT IT WAS THE PETROL PUMP OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT,,, ,THE FAULT LIGHT ON ,THE CAR WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH,I SCANNED THE FAULT CODE ,IT CAME UP, P0404 ERG,,.I TOOK OFF THE ERG VALVE,IT WAS BLACK FULL OF CARBON ,THE STEM ON THE VALVE WAS JAMMED WITH CARBON ,,SPRAYED IT WITH ENGINE CLEANER AND SCRAPED THE CARBON OFF THE STEM OF THE VALVE ,WASHED IT OUT,SPRAYED IT WITH WD 40 ,,FITTED IT BACK ON AND THE CAR IS BACK ON THE ROAD,FOR ANOTHER WHILE,

MY EPC LIGHT CAME ON THE OTHER DAY ,I USED A CODE SCANNER TO CHECK THE FAULT,IT SAID THAT THEIR WAS NO FAULT CODE OR ONE PENDING,BUT THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON ,I CLEARED IT AND IT WENT OFF,I DROVE ABOUT 2 MILES AND IT CAME BACK ON AGAIN,,????,THEN I CHECKED THE BACK BREAK LIGHTS AND FOUND THEM NOT WORKING,,SO THAT IS THE PROBLEM,,I NEED A NEW SWITCH,FOR THE BACK BREAK ,I AM HAPPY AGAIN?

LIGHT HAS COME ON,I HAVE CLEARED WITH COED READER ,BUT COMES ON AGAIN AFTER 2 MILES DRIVING ,THEIR IS NO FAULT IN THE CODE READER,IT SAYS NO FAULT CODES,OR PENDIND CODES ,EVEN WITH THE E.P.C. Hi ihad that problem with my octavia 1.6 it was the sensor for the cooling fan ,,i fixed that then a few months later it came back on and it was the termostat sensor so check the cooling is ok

Hi i have a skoda octavia 1.6i the engine oil is fine but when i take off the filler cap there is a white gunge around the cap and just inside the cap area,,,, is this normal or what...ihave just changed the oil,,

Yes it is a bfq but the parts are different i tried to get bfq parts and they are not the same i had to get a thermostat the bfq parts were diffrent ,,i tried a audi a3 that part fitted i dont know about other parts ifi knew what engine or set up it was it would be easyer to get parts ,,,,,,,, thanks ,,,,,,,

Hi can anyone tell me ,,i have a octavia 1.6 sri 2001 ,,the engine in this has a diffrent set up then other 1.6i octavia the mannual dose not have this engine in it ,some of the parts are the same but the cooling system is different ,,so when i go to order parts they do not have that part,or the part is diffrent ,,
