  4. Sounds great, where are the map prices please - will this work with the Octravia FL TSI? Editr - just seen above re 2010 cars - does this apply to 2010 petrols as well as diesels? And if the ECU does have to come out to be tuned does this mean that both maps can not be loaded onto the STS?
  5. Nowt to do with blinkers, personally I enjoy the handling of the Octy over the Focus tho. Don't get me wrong, I loved my ST, it's a fantastic allrounder but I'd consider it more of a 'GT' than an out and out hot hatch (not that I would consider the vRS a hot hatch either) I found with the Focus, the engine dominated the experience - both in a good way, with the noise/power/torque, but in a not so good way with what seemed like a bit of a noise heavy trait when you were pushing on. On the road in day to day driving this wasnt really an issue but on the track it resulted in a lot of roll and understeer (on standard suspension at least). Incidentally I think most publications would rate the Golf mk5 GTi to be a more fun/better handler than the ST tho the Octavia rarely features in the grouptests. I've also had a lot of experience of the GTI too and find the experience with the vRS to be pretty similar; i.e. a sharper turn in (IMO), and an eagerness to change direction with precision that feels more muted in the ST (IMO). Yes - you notice the extra bulk of the vRS over the GTi, but overall they're very similar in their handling traits.
  6. I' ve owned a ST for a couple of years, tbh I'm surprised people think the ST handles better, tho it depends how you define 'better'. I'd say the vRS feels more agile than the ST IMO. As for the OP I think a remapped vRS would be about on par, maybe VERY slightly quicker than the ST. However if i ever owned another ST it wouldn't last a day without being mapped (dreamscience) - it completely transforms it!
  7. isnt it something to do with some new EU directive or something? I must admit they are a bit intrusive on the a pillar view but do give excellent vision!
  8. excellent. am i correct in saying there is no protection for front an rear tho? ordered a third party jobbie for my '4 which arrives next week (on three network) just in case.
  9. to be honest i don't think there is any entitlement to a courtesy car at all so if you want it, its at their terms!
  10. Hmmm, so the rears are defo adjustable as well then? Do most have adjustable damping rates too? does it effect both compression and rebound or just the rebound? Wonder if the manufactures could tell me how the standard ride height compares to the 'highest setting??
  11. i must add - 40mpg is not typical for me - just really impressed its possible without toooo much effort! In the 2500 miles I've done so far i think its averaging around 33mpg which I'm still hugely happy with. i tend to do more longer runs than town stuff tho.

With all the pro-dervers out there I thought I'd start a threads for the petrolheads as I have been really impressed with the MPG from the last fill up Ok, after coming from a Focus ST and then a 6.1 V8 Jeep SRT, practically anything else would amaze me but on my latest fill, with a mix of mainly motorway and a bit of town I'm getting 40+ mpg! I think that's fantastic for a 200bhp petrol car! Anyone do a lot better?

If I get a coilover kit for my FL are the rears actually coilovers or is the suspension of a different type? weird reason - I want to lower the car but thinking I'll be ... ahem... towing with it soonish - was thinking a coilover option may mean an adjustable ride height/stiffness for the rear which could actually be pretty useful. Otherwise I fear that a lowered Octy (on lowering springs only etc) may be too low to tow... Anyone know? Anyone with experience of what I'm talking about?

Anyone any opinions/experience?
  18. currently considering the prospects of towing a 'van with our TSI and weighing up costs etc... What is the rough cost for a towbar and all electrics fitted to my car? Does it actually make any difference that I DIDN'T spec towbar prep as an option?
  19. never owned/tried a stage 2 Fabia but used to own a Corsa VXR - they really are pretty rapid! Really great fun in the corners too
