  1. Interesting to read and very similar to my situation. I currently run a Superb 280 which like your Golf is excellent in all respects except one, running costs. I never considered having a BEV or PHEV since my one test drive a few years ago consisted of a brief run in an early Passat GTE which I recall felt like driving a fully loaded car (even though there was just me and the salesman in it) due to the weight. Back in August my Superb was in for service and I was offered a drive in a demo Enyaq 85X. The acceleration I found to be similar to the Superb from start off (0 to 60 about 6 seconds) and up to the legal limit (so the range which matters). So the Enyaq can 'only' do 112mph as opposed to the Superbs 155mph. Well, I've never driven the Superb on the Autobahn or race track so what does that matter? I accept that the Enyaq doesn't handle like a GTI but its way better than the Passat I mentioned above. Then it came to the running costs. Currently £80 a time for 99 RON unleaded is expensive on a weekly basis. With a home charger installed I'll be looking at about £10 in electricity costs to get a similar mileage. No contest really. I was quoted 6 months for a factory order on an 85X, mine should arrive in time for the 26 plate early next year.
  2. An update on tyre choice for my 280 which was discussed on the previous page. I looked at various options including summer and all season tyres, eventually I decided to stick with summer tyres as our Fabia is on Michelin cross climates which can handle the sort of winter we've had these last few years. So after reading reviews on the best options I narrowed it down to Continental premium contacts or Goodyear Eagle F1s. Road tests gave the nod to the Goodyears in most cirumstances and both were available for virtually the same price so Ive now got the new F1s fitted. Obviously way better grip as theyre new, haven't tried them in the wet yet but definitely quieter than the Contis so happy enough with the swap. As an aside, I was at the dealers today getting the Superb its 1st service and they had a brand new model Superb just come in. It was a 193ps TDI 4x4 L and K estate and I had a look at it whilst I was waiting. Looked very smart in the new pebble silver with black leather. The seats have been upgraded since my version, apparently they now heat, cool and massage as standard and they have better side support too, very comfortable.
  3. I've looked at those, they look decent, but I'm leaning more towards summer tyres. The Conti premium 7s get good reviews, similar prce to the Eco 6s, they're on my list, still looking.
  4. I'll need to replace the tyres on my 280 estate fairly soon, the std Continental eco contact 6s fitted from new have been okay, currently 18k miles with the fronts close to the tread wear indicators,a little bit more left on the rears. The car is on a PCP so I need the same standard or better, any thoughts on replacement options?

  6. When I asked in September 2022 I was told around 6 months for a new Superb. I've since read that its likely to be nearer 8 months and It seems that the cars which come through quickest are those with the least amount of extras. Apparently the Canton sound system in particular causes delays (due to semi conductor shortages) but since I don't think that the Canton is an option on the SEL that shouldn't affect you. You're probably looking at delivery aroung June this year all other things being equal.

  11. It's a common fault across VAG vehicles built around the time yours was. My VW Passat is exactly the same. Some say that software updates cure the problems, for others the problems persist. I've put up with mine only beacause I cant afford the time to take it back and forth to the dealers.
  12. I'd honestly rather have the Superb L & K 280 than that repulsive Bentley!

  14. I was quoted 5 to 6 months for a Superb estate when I spoke to my local dealer this week. Apparently Hatches will take a month longer.
