  1. Thanks. Is it fairly obvious how the bumper comes off? The lamp unit is loose and sitting back from where it should be. Luckily at much the same level as normal so not dazzling oncoming traffic.
  2. Fkn pheasant smashed my driver side headlight tonight. Is this easy to change out? Where is the cheapest place to buy a genuine light unit? Pre facelift 2013 halogen with washer.
  3. The clutch worked for the dealer so the only explanation the mechanic could think of was that going through the flood had caused the clutch plates to seize together. Being transported or when removing the car from the transporter had caused the clutch to free up. A look around the forum found some Yeti owners with similar clutch issues after driving through water.
  4. It looks like my clutch pressure plate or slave cylinder has failed. Both are a gearbox off job so just as well it's still under warranty! I have a Golf Bluemotion estate courtesy car from Europcar and am waiting for the not so Superb to be collected for delivery to the dealer. I'll update this when I know what the diagnosis is.
  5. I started up the car as usual this morning but I couldn't get it in gear. I pumped the clutch, pressed it down all the way, etc but no go. With the engine off I can select gears no problem. The only thing different from normal yesterday was driving through a flood but it was only about 6-7 inches deep and how could that effect the clutch anyway?
  6. The Bolero unit in my car which makes noises that sound like the CD player is shuffling when the ignition is off. If I turn off the car ignition and stay inside I can hear it and also when I get in the car before I turn on the ignition. What's all that about!
  7. Isn't the extended warranty only available when you buy the car new?
  8. Day 3 and 4 will be long days as well. These are not roads where you can sit at a constant 50-60 mph. There is still a lot of holiday traffic and presumably you'll want to stop for meals, views, etc. If you can average 40 mph while driving you'll be doing well.
  9. I went with Continental ContiSportContact 5 and am delighted with them. http://www.evo.co.uk/features/15659/which-is-the-best-tyre-for-summer-performance-tyre-test/page/0/2 http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/66048/continental-contisportcontact-5
  10. I love my old VFR800 but it's pre Vtec. I tried a couple of Vtec's but didn't like that kick when the extra valves cut in. It's just gimmicky nonsense anyway as one of the bike mags compared pre Vtec and Vtec on the dyno and the only difference was a dip in power before a jump back up on the Vtec. There was no low rev torque advantage or any power advantage. You'll also pay a lot more for your valve clearance check as well. Try both but I'd be looking for a mint low mileage pre Vtec.
  11. The only time I notice the size of the Suberb is when parallel parking but with rear parking sensors it isn't a problem as long as you can find a space long enough! The car is much narrower than others in the same class e.g. Mondeo, Mazda 6, Passat and indeed, and unfortunately, the latest Superb. The turning circle is also surprisingly tight and it is easy to find a comfortable and commanding driving position.
  12. From someone who's partner has a Rapid I'd definately go with the Superb. Hers has the glass roof, lots of toys, 17" alloys, race blue, etc but the Superb has a much better standard of finish, better ride quality and for a growing family, acres of room.
  13. I'd go for the Rapid as the 3 cylinder diesel in the new Fabia is awful. I posted this previously. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/362863-disappointed-with-new-fabia/
  14. Aprillia Falco. you'll get a very low mileage one for your budget. http://www.motorcyclenews.com/bike-reviews/aprilia/sl1000-falco/1999/ or a ZZR1400 which handles much better than my previous Blackbird but a few issues on the early ones at the money you're talking.
  15. Indicating right when going straight on at a roundabout. Is this just an Aberdeen area thing? Scares the bejesus out of you if you're in the outside lane going straight on when the car on the inside starts indicating right!
  16. I don't understand why you wouldn't buy diesel if you're bothered about mpg? My GF thrashes her 105TDi Spaceback SE Sport on B roads and also does some town mileage but still gets a genuine 50mpg. On a long cross country run I can easily get 60mpg whilst still averaging 50 mph.
  17. I'd definitely go 4wd if you like to press on a bit. The Haldex is much smarter than many people realise. As muddyboots says it always starts off in 4wd so pulling out onto busy roads or roundabouts you can give it everything and it just grips and goes. On slippy corners when you can feel the front tyres starting to slide wide don't lift off. Floor it instead or at least give the throttle a good prod. The Haldex will lock up so you have now split the power between front and rear axles so the front stops pushing wide. An additional benefit is the rear wheels are now having to travel a shorter distance around the curve compared to the fronts so they are now 'over rotating' slightly so will push the rear of the car out, again helping the big bus turn it to the corner. This will not develop into oversteer as the split is 50/50 front to rear, instead it will develop into a four wheel drifting slide in extremis. My partner has a Rapid 105 PS TD with 215/40-17 tyres and in the wet it is easy to have them scrabbling for grip, so with 190 PS and loads of torque...... The only downsides are around 5 mpg increase in fuel consumption and the Haldex needs 40k mile oil changes. You might save that on tyres compared to 2wd though.
  18. About 450 miles to 53 litre fill up so around 38mpg for a 170PS 4x4 manual on a mainly 12mile each way commute. Lying computer says 44.
  19. My partner has a 2014 rapid Spaceback with the pano roof, 17" alloys, etc and is delighted with it. She did have a Ford Ka previously though! This coffee cup fits http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B005PP9AOW/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_dp_ss_3?pf_rd_p=569136327&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_i=B008O0MOAW&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=1R3JK6WZYK1HKRJJ77QM The radio goes quiet in reverse. Road noise is unobtrusive with the standard Dunlop tyres. Mudflaps are negotiated as part of the deal if you want them normally. No water in the back doors. I agree that all the latest Skodas are far too expensive and the Rapid Spaceback is probably the worst offender. However there are some brilliant deals out there as we picked ours up for £12k under a year old saving something like £7k on the new price with that spec.
  20. We took my partners Rapid in for its first variable service and were given a Fabia 1.4 SE diesel loan car. Initial impressions were good, then we started it up. I didn't know they still made car diesel engines this noisy. It sounded like a tractor. Setting off she found it needed plenty of revs and clutch slipping to get going. Why is it so high geared? 35mph per 1000rpm in 5th. So at 70mph it's doing 2000rpm. This means the gears are so widely spaced that the engine bogs down on changing up unless it is reved in each gear. Even when warmed up that 3 cylinder engine is noisy and sounds rough and laboured with the high gearing. A very disappointing Skoda especially at the prices these new models retail at.
  21. Isn't this just another generic lookalike Skoda? Side on it looks like a stretched out Fabia or Octavia estate. It has more angular headlights but you can be sure that any subsequent revisions of these models will have this new 'face' as well. 9 inches wider and electronic handbrake are negatives as well.
  22. Yes still under warranty but pita to get to a dealer and I've never had success with dealers anyway. No sunroof and all seals are as new.
  23. I have rain water coming in under the front passenger door about half way along. Thankfully I have rubber mats so the water pools into that rather than soaking the carpets. I've checked the door drain holes and they are clear. Any suggestions as to what to check next?
  24. Just FYI my reply from Haynes regarding a manual for the Superb and Rapid sent in January 2015. Dear Alec Thank you for your email which has been forwarded to me for response. On average we produce around 12 new and 8 updated manuals per year. This has been our production schedule for many years and is about right for a viable range of manuals. Inevitably there will be some models that are not covered and this has always been the situation. There are a number of reasons why a manual may not be available for a particular model but our starting point is the number of vehicles on the road that are over 3 years old (i.e. out of warranty). In the specific case of the Superb it has not reached our minimum target as there are only around 20,000 out of warranty on the U.K. market and a number of those are small volume specialist models. Rapid models are almost all still under warranty. I can understand your frustration at not being able to obtain a manual and we would like nothing better than to be able to meet all our customers’ demands but I hope you understand the reason why a specific model isn’t covered. We appreciate your feedback and your comments will be used for consideration the next time we meet to discuss proposed manuals. Regards. Trevor. Technical Services (U.K. & Europe) Haynes Publishing. Email: [email protected] Tel: +44 (0)1963 442062 Hi, are you still making Haynes maintenance manuals? Over the last 10 years I have owned: 2000 VW Passat 2.8 V6 4Motion-no manual (Does NOT cover V6 (petrol & diesel) or 4-Motion models.) 2005 Subaru Legacy – no manual Now 2013 Skoda Superb and Skoda Rapid – no manual Regards Alec
  25. Loads of Outdoors and 14 plates of the very similar Tour De France versions for around 20k though.
