    That's what you usually see after a battery disconnect and usually disappears when the car is driven forwards for a short distance.

    No it won't.  The air is being pushed into the car when the car is in motion, the way to stop this is to close the hole through which the air gets in, which is what pressing the recirculation button does.

    After viewing this over 100 times, thought I'd better post.  If you've got a stethoscope or a bit of wood touch one end of it on the sensor and have a listen at the other end, if the sensor isn't working you won't hear anything.

    It's the rod that the track rod end screws on to, where it disappears under the gaitor it makes a ball joint which is in turn screwed into the rack.  It's commonly known as a track rod, tie rod or drum stick.
