What's an inner rack joint?

Featured Replies

As title. I need a new track rod end for 1 side and a new inner rack joint for the other. Not sure what itis exactly though.

Hi Dark_Hero

These links will hopefully help you.

Basically the inner joint is a ball and socket joint contained within the rubber boots on the steering rack. As you'll know the track rod end is at the 'outboard' end of the control rod where its connected to the hub carrier.

It's the rod that the track rod end screws on to, where it disappears under the gaitor it makes a ball joint which is in turn screwed into the rack.  It's commonly known as a track rod, tie rod or drum stick.

Blimey, good job I was sitting down

I normaly replace the trackrod end at the same time if doing a rack end, makes things a little easier and only cost an extra £8 maybe.

Changed a few Fabia ones now, not to bad of a job. Can be done with basic tools and a good set of mole grips really

I just ordered them From eurocarparts, £30 a side.

i paid £26 for both from euro :o

Iirc they are about £14 each and track rod ends are about £7 each.
