  1. Decided to replace strut top bearing today.

When dismantling the top of the strut, the strut bearing (7) was at the bottom of the top spring plate (5), not on the top.

All the info I can find shows it at the top under the locking nut (9).

can someone confirm the order of spring top mount plate, bearing, nut, rubber mount top plate and nut?

Note also water pump is fine and not in need of immediate replacement. It is an advisory thing only. As is top strut bearing.

I may be able to accept payment by debit/credit card but may incur a 2% surcharge.

  3. Power cap ? Lloyd imo why do you have such poo ?

I added 5 farad cap. result bass much deeper tighter less boomy.

why do you think one of my hi fi amps has 40,000mf of power supply capacitance.

the higher farad in a car is due to lower voltage.

    Coil packs replaced under warranty

Full set pagid brakes and discs Jan 2012

Overall in good condition.  Red decals redone last month to replace faded pink.

    Not so good points are:

Body: small ding front n/s wheel arch. Very slight crease lower o/s rear door (barely noticeable)

Wheels have some usual dings/blemishes. Some minor creasing of sill lips which is common on these cars.

Interior: Drivers seat not as clean as the rest. Right switch on interior light iffy.

Mechanically: Front n/s top bearing noisy, replacement supplied. Tracking slightly out.

Cannot ascertain if water pump was done at cambelt service, so may need changing for peace of mind.

Some spares Original stereo supplied , Original new bonnet decal, Magnex back box milltek centre pipe if required

Any questions message via forum initially.  May post interior pics later.

  5. DAB radio is an utterly stupid concept. In a portable, the energy consumption is so high that massive batteries are required with limited operating time. There are no lightweight DAB portables. For Hi Fi use, FM sound is better than DAB as the bandwith of the latter is so limited. Reception in the limited number of cars in which it is available, is very patchy and totally unforgiving of poor reception. Finally, thanks to poor groundwork by the BBC, the UK uses an obsolete format.

It's high time the BBC took its corporate head out of the sand and scrapped this lousy system rather than trying to promote it by limited access broadcasting. I suspect they're too pig-headed to do this and will soldier on spending our money until they are forced to scrap it due to obsolescence.

For most radio users, DAB solves no problems and creates several others.

    rotodiesel.

What a load of carp. No format is ideal. Vinyl, cassette, CD, AM(stereo) FM DAB etc.

Dab is MP2 which is old technology BBC should have waited for MP3. But try receiving Jazz FM in Northampton on FM from Croyden. £1000 plus Revox tuner with 8 element yagi and antenna amplifier an I was still lucky to get hissy stereo.  Now with a reasonable quality MArantz tuner, now have good sound quality near to CD/Vinyl and other stations eg Planet Rock.

Same in car quality sound from Noerthampton to Yorkshire wiithout a single dropout. It works FM doesn't. And until DAB+ then its fine.

Note at the Mega meet i had difficulty convincing people the hi fi in car was on DAB. Most would have sworn it was CD.

    nuf said.

  6. Sat in the estate vRS at the mega meet yesterday.

Seemed ok, but the instrument binnacle is offset to the left :wall: . Why! thats a no then. I cannot tolerate (or understand) why manufacturers of cars cannot get the center line of the seat through the steering wheel and binnacle. So everything in front of the driver is central.

So offset seats, binnacles and particularly annoying, offset steering wheels to the left , or right (passat) are out.

  8. Tried just about everything, foam, sprays, VAX, nothing works because I reckon the dirt from the seat foam is dragged to the surface.

Only way to do the job properly is seats out and remove covers for cleaning.

The biggie here is the heated seat panels and airbag.

Its a job on a long list of todo's

  9. Finally got my WRC Style Spoiler sprayed in white and fitted.

I am after a pair of round Skoda emblem decals/stickers.

    ebay show at 100mm diameter.

I think I can go a bit bigger maybe 120/140mm

Any opinions, or have you got some fitted and at what diameter?

Links to suppliers other than ebay as ther is little information on tinternet

    Cheers

  10. Hi Thanks

Bought a pair of Sachs springs off eurocarparts as need urgently. About £90 the pair so not too bad.

Messaged seller but no response and can't do anything as too late. Already left good feedback after the final confirmation from the seller said these were deffo mk1 vrs.

I need to identify exactly what they are so I can resell.

  11. This turned out bad.

Finally with good weather managed to remove broken front n/s spring. Was broken at the top and the bottom!

these springs are nothing like Octavia mark 1 vrs springs. too late to complain to seller. so not happy. :wall:

Looks like eurocar parts sachs springs are best bet as something now needed fast as car still on jacks.

Can anyone identify them so I can resell?

    thanks

    stef

  12. So question changes to why no Wifi in the Citigo? As long as I can just press a preset button for a channel that would be fine.

Internet radio currently is a massive fail as I don't use or need mobile phone.

  13. I read somewhere that dab is no longer the so called future of radio due to limited stations in certain areas

For example I can only get 10-15 dab stations in my area yet my mate who lives 15 miles away can receive 20 odd

Its a situation that occurs all over Europe

    So what's the solution

    Xfm style internet radio ???

It comes down to data connection and speed and cost

Again I still say they missed a huge trick by not having an android based pid

When radio listening is 99% Planet rock and Jazz FM it is daft to offer all this media stuff with the PID yet not offer DAB even as an option.

May be outdated from its inception campared to DAB+ but its works. and despite a hatred of MP2/MP3 is does sound good in a car environment.

  14. Thinking might go citigo due to less miles. Likely 75ps Elegance.

However no integrated DAB radio on the RCD 215 or even as an option.

SEAT Mii and VW up the same.

VW stating DAB on all models from Polo onwards.

So what gives? Brand new car and yet spoilt for a few pennies.

I do not want external fit DAB as lived with Pure Highways for years.

Just fitted JVC DAB60 in our yaris for some integration.

And yes this is enough to stop me buying this car.
