OK so I know everyone is talking modifications, remaps and the ultimate performance, but today for the first time I 'launched' my standard, stock Superb 280 and was pleasantly surprised. Absolutely no drama, no wheelspin and a recorded time of 4.96 for a 0-60 mph

So my reply (as an owner of a Superb 4x4 280) is in two parts: 1st the car; superb is the word, yes to describe the Superb. Quality interior with plenty of space and certainly in Sportline trim, a modern feel. Lots of nice touches like the umbrella in the door, ice scraper behind the fuel flap. Having had Audi previously it did not feel like a downgrade and it feels a step up from the Octavia I've also owned. Handling is secure and ride is good but it certainly feels like a big car in the corners and lacks precision. This all of course applies to any engine option of the Superb. 2nd the EA888 TSi engine; lots of power, refined and pulls well throughout the rev range. Mostly I drive it like a limousine but knock it into sport and it flies. Fuel consumption is, I guess, what you expect from a 280 BHP petrol, I average around 30 mpg on a run, have seen 40 mpg on a long gentle summer outing, but now in January on shorter trips it will be low 20's mpg. As many of the official reviews state, it is a slightly odd combination, but for me ticks the right boxes. Buy with your head and the 190 TDi 4x4 has everything except the blistering acceleration.

The EA888 Engine on the Skoda Superb 280 / 272 is a timing chain not belt. It doesn't need replaced.

Been enjoying the car but waiting for work to require a longer drive on country roads. Been on the local roads mostly since I bought it!

Got a Superb a few weeks back! Previously owned Octavia 4x4 Estate, then Octavia Scout over two generations. Spent time away from Skoda in Audi TT Quattro (didn't need the space) but now with a young child enjoying the space and comfort of the Superb.

Didn't realise HM Coast Guard use Yeti until I saw this. Left on a blue light call just after these photos were taken!

To remove the trim; start at the top side edge and get a broad screwdriver or something similar in plastic if you are really concerned about damaging paint, and prise the trim out. As soon as the first outer fastener pops open use a torch to see where the other fasteners are and use a long flat head screwdriver to prise them apart as close to the fastener as possible. The problem with re-fitting is the fasteners are sometimes bent a little and don't line up. Again use a long screwdriver to push them into line before firmly pressing the trim on listening for the pop as they lock back in place. Good luck with your repair!

On the estate the washer is no where near the wiper. I guess if the seal through the screen was bad then water / washer fluid could get in but I don't think that was the problem.

My rear wiper packed in on my Scout. I replaced the whole assembly with a new one, fairly easy job... remove trim off inside of tailgate, remove wiper (used a puller bought off ebay for less than £10) unplug, unbolt then replace with new one, plug in, trim on, done! Wee tip - the wiper does not work when the boot is open! At first I thought the new one was dud, but then realized the washer wasn't working either and shut the boot fully all was good. I tore apart the old one to discover the motor was fine and although the mechanism appeared well greased it was the metal gear plates that had seized. I would suggest if you have similar rear wiper failure to take the back plate off the mechanism (this can be done from inside with wiper still on car) and put penetraing oil the grease on the metal cogs and see if things work.

225/50R17 is original fit size for Octavia Scout in UK I was very disappointed in the performance of All-season Nokien eNTyre. From reading some reviews of All-season tyres it seems it would be better to run winter tyres through the summer than suffer the poor wet grip of some All-season tyres. Checked speedo again tonight on 205/55R16 tyres: At 70 mph speedo reads 78 At 60 mph speedo reads 66 At 50 mph speedo reads 55 At 40 mph speedo reads 44 At 30 mph speedo reads 33 It seems to be at least 10% off. I guess it over reads a little in any case.

Correct size for winter tyres on 16" wheels is 205/55R16 This is as recommended / approved by Skoda, but does in fact give a smaller diameter and the speedo will under read. I find when speedo shows 44 mph I am actually doing just 40 mph! Good idea to get an extra set of wheels as then you can take your time getting the 17" refurbished. I'm in the same position with Scout 17" alloys needing attention. For winter I managed to get a set of 16" Octavia alloys from an Elegence spec car and have Avon Ice Touring winter tyres. I run the winters from middle of October to usually end of March, but then again that's Scotland. Second hand alloys can work out cheaper than steels sometimes as there are plenty out there. Of course now is the wrong time of year to buy winter tyres as they are getting more expensive (I got mine in August) but if needs must....

Try them (winter tyres) and you will see.......

Started out with the standard Dunlops on my Scout which were OK in Summer but hopeless in winter. Last few years I've had Maloya Swiss winter tyres which performed well and I ran them into the summer this year because the Nokien eNTyres (all season) which I'd replaced the Dunlops with are hopeless in the wet. The Nokiens went back on for the summer as I had some high speed driving across Germany and they performed well on dry gravel in Latvia. This winter I'm running Avon Ice Touring which I am very pleased with on damp, wet and leaf strewn muddy country roads. Best summer tyre I've had was BF Goodrich G Force which I had on my Mk1 4x4 which performed amazing in snow concidering they aren't a winter tyre. I see BF Goodrich do a winter G Force which would be interesting. Problem you have to balance is how often do you really need to drive wet grass v dry summer motorway!

Put the winter tyres on today. Would rather do it in the dry ahead of the rain, sleet and snow! I had got a bit fed up of the look of the black steel 16" wheels so when I found a set of Octavia Elegance 16" alloys in good condition I snapped them up. Sold the steels with my old winter tyres to an Audi driver. This year trying Avon Ice Touring. My brother has run these on his Scout for a couple of years and has been happy with them. I actually really like the look of these wheels on the car

Worst roads were Latvia in so far as we drove a lot of gravel and dirt track minor roads. In Lithuania it was mainly main roads. The Latvians and Lithuanians do some manic overtakes, forcing cars onto the verge at times, but at least the verge is wide and good tarmac, almost a hard shoulder. Russian drivers are just plain crazy and will overtake anywhere even a blind bend, not because they are travelling much faster, they seem to just need to be ahead!!! Generally roads throughout Europe are better than UK and in the eastern countries the lack of traffic makes up for the lower quality surfaces. Speed limit in Latvia is just 90 kph. One thing I found very hard to get used to was the lack of road markings at junctions in Latvia and sometimes when a couple of roads met it was just an expanse of tarmac with some vague signs before, even the locals seemed confused!

Just back from an epic trip round eastern Europe. From Amsterdam travelled through Holland into Germany, then on to Poland and up into Lithuania and Latvia. Roads varied from autobahn to rutted dirt tracks and the Scout took it all in its stride. Best days average mpg was 65mpg! The worst fuel consumption was the fast autobahn days at around 44mpg with the trip average around mid 50's. Maximum speed was confirmed at just over 120mph at which the car felt really stable and relaxed.

Dealer now West End Garage Sighthill 1st time using Westend in 10 years after they caused damage to my car at their Broxburn branch. But hey, 10 years on, new dealership, things have surely improved. Car was in for Airconditionong diagnostic as not cooling at all. (previously had been checked at Chatham / Westend Halbeath October 2012 and although out of pressure at that time it was refilled and no leaks detected. Cost for diagnostic Halbeath £49 Westend Sighthill charged £78 (one hours labour) to tell me apparently the condensor is leaking from the cap and will need new condensor. On insecting the engine bay when I got home I saw the fill caps for the airconditioning system were missing. Checking around the engine bay I found the missing caps left on the windscreen scuttle panel. Not what I expect from a £78 an hour mechanic. I called the dealer this morning and was assured the service manager Grahem would call me straight back. After an hour I called again to be told he was out test driving cars. I went into the dealership where I was ushered into an office and Grahem (service manager) and Stuart (business manager) together tried intimidating tactics to say I was being rediculous complaing over parts left off and it was a simple mistake. My request for compensation for poor service was met with a resounding no.

Car going in for service (Halbeath Dunfermline) on Monday, asked for quote to balance a couple of wheels (summer wheels not even on the car yet but lost a weight late last year before I removed them) Now is this a record £50.40!!! Yes £50.40 to balance two wheels off the car! Now even Kwikfit only charge £13.50 for that! The problem with crazy quotes like this is it makes you wonder what other crazy labour rates they charge for Skoda specific things.

I saw one a couple of weeks ago here in Scotland, near Glasgow (must have been a pre-production test car or something) I thought it was MK3 Octavia, it looked great in the flesh I have to say. At least now I know what it was!

I had this repair done on my Scout this year (car is 07 so out of warranty) Skoda UK paid 100% after myself and the dealer contacted them. Its a known fault with the ABS pump and really should have been a recall. Press for at least 100% parts and discount on fitting cost!

OK had it in the dealer for its cambelt, mentioned the window switch and they had no idea how this could have happened. It also affects the open and closing with the key fob as the left rear window now does not open with the others and opens as the others close :(

Today when I got in my car I noticed the rear left window was ever so slightly open, when I went to close it the switch opened it more! I checked and the switch was working in opposite fashion lowering it when it should be rising and vice versa! I checked the rear switch for that window and it was the same reversed operation. All other window switches work as normal and I know for a fact that the window concerned switch worked properly before! I just hope the accelerator pedal switch is more reliable
