Bonnet Release Mechanism Very Loose - Cracked Plastic on Body
EDIT: Apologies for the large size of the pics guys! I don't know how to adjust them Hi all, I've tried a search but I don't think I found anything like this. I'm hopeful that the good people of Briskoda could help diagnose and, if possible, come up with a solution for this. Please find pics attached of bonnet release mechanism from my 2015 RS TDI and, if you look at the black plastic piece in the middle (below the hook). There's a crack on the right side that's formed that moves quite easily with the lightest touch. The problem was that when I pulled the lever release for the bonnet one day the whole thing gave way. There was no resistance. Originally I thought it was the cable but, after closing the bonnet and pulling again it opened. So I turned my attention to the mechanism - and noticed it was very stiff - so gave it a spray of WD40 and, while loosening it up, noticed this plastic part. The problem still exists in that the bonnet still opens and closes, but, I'm worried that this broken piece of plastic could be the cause of the whole mechanism being so loose and might cause the cable to break and hence a locked bonnet! Anyone any advice on how to fix and whether much work is involved? Thanks! Colin

Expansion bottle replacement
Thank you for the updates! I'm puzzled with how the 'G' part number had both the single and double chamber versions! I was expecting the double walled model to be a little more advanced than what it turns out to be in those photos..! I still have my old tank. I'd say it's probably only good for dumping as I don't want to burden anyone else with the same problem in the future. What a waste of good materials on poorly designed parts..

Timing belt
Wait - Is that the original timing belt that came with your MK1 Octy? If so then maximum respect to the manufacturer!

Mats
Was hoping there'd be an option of buying driver side only mats in this day and age too. Just seems like such a waste buying a complete set when only one is needed.

Timing belt
What's involved in an inspection? Does the mechanic simply check the belt for cracks or do they check tensioners and the like? My belt is just about 5 years old with about 125,000km/70,000 miles. Given that my manual says that it should last until 210,000km without a time limit I'm wondering why Skoda added the time limit afterwards. Clearly the belts were designed to last such an amount of mileage. That said, I've heard the water pumps go long before the 210k mark!

Air Con problem?
He Pe09 - I don't think that vid is crude - if anything it highlights exactly the problem. I'm surprised to hear such a clunk and the ribbon to simply drop with the reduction in air flow. I don't think this will help too much but will suggest as Cheezemonkhai said - have you considered lowering the temperature to 'LO' below the 16 so the air con knows it has to blow out as much cold air as possible regardless of the car's internal temp. If this or previous options haven't worked then I'd say it's definitely worth a visit to a dealer - my 2015 VRS doesn't do this at all. Whatever you do don't delete that vid - just in case the usual situation occurs in the dealers - like in my case where for whatever reason the problem or noise is magically gone when I try to recreate it but is back the minute I leave the place.

LED number plate lights
Hi guys. Apologies for bringing back an older thread but though it might be useful for other people interested in going through with this mod - is skoda-parts.com recommended? Does anyone have the price of these parts from the dealer? I'm thinking about getting this done but want to make sure I get them for a fair price too. Thanks!

Expansion bottle replacement
Thanks for the update Jim. Gave me the confidence to tear into it tonight. I've finally fitted the M tank in my VRS TDI. The process was easy enough - just needed to borrow a vice grips to be able to open the larger clip. Filled up the new bottle and topped up with G13 neat and ran the engine. All seems good so far. Will know better after I take it for a good spin tomorrow. All in the cost was about €50 including the bottle of G13 and turkey baster. It's worth doing as a preventative measure. The father has already taken the bag out of his Octavia which has the tea bag style silica. It only took him under 20 seconds to fish it out too the lucky bugger! It's interesting how some dealers are openly admitting that the silica is a problem with the cars whilst others are keeping quiet - my dealer claimed they never heard of it but that said they didn't stop me from going ahead with this change either. Still curious as to why the image of the bottle is filled in as opposed to displaying the 'G13' symbol. Will they be revealing a newer, improved coolant at some stage? Something that might be in the 2019/2020 models?

Did some underbody trim fall off my car? (photos inc)
Hi guys, Bit of an odd one. Last week when going out to my car I couldn't help but notice a piece of plastic trim was 'hanging down' in front of the rear passenger side wheel. I saw it was a part of the underbody plastic and when I pushed it up it didn't so much click as 'sit' into place. I phoned the dealer and naturally they were closed due to what's going on at the moment. Fast forward to today where I took the car on its first trip in a while - I decided when I got back to take another look at that piece that was hanging down to see that it looks like it came off. Please find pics attached. Was this an essential piece of trim? Was it big or small? What bugs me about it is that I don't know why it started hanging off. I ordered the car with the extra stone protection underneath so I don't know if it was one of those extra parts that fell off or is it a more essential piece that I need to replace asap. Thanks briskodians for your help as always!
