  1. Dont suppose youd be interested in a px with the non dab version I had off you years ago? 😅
  2. Another option is quite a few EGR deletes have a take off for a boost gauge.
  3. Don't suppose you have any need for 2 sets of 19 inch VW Touareg wheels do you :peek:
  4. Hi mate and cheers, To be fair I never set out to buy a red one I fancied white or blue, but bar Columbus and MFSW it had a really good spec. With the work on it I guess the way I see it is the things I've done/can do are only matching my abilities which was helped by the fact I started out as a mechanic (Vehicle Technician to give it the posh name shown on the certificates lol). Even then I look at some of the stuff people do and wish I even had a pinch of their skill/talent, one thing I would like is if I had a lot more fabrication skills. Other things like the little bits of painting are just because I like to have a go and have done small items in the past on other cars I've had, but honestly that grille I really really need to re-do as it looks terrible in real life as I ran out of paint mid way through doing it but have since bought some more for when I can be bothered to try again. Nothing wrong with starting a thread, its nice to keep a little progress on what you've done, you never know you might start off saying you aren't doing much and then in a year or 2 think wow I've done quite a lot actually.
  5. I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I'd be tempted to go for a new oil feed and return pipe for the turbo, if either is blocked slightly you'll end up with issues on the new turbo in no time. You can just take yours off completely and make sure 100% there are no blockages/restrictions. The main killer for turbos is oil starvation and some places wont even provide a warranty on a new turbo unless you fit new oil feed pipes, and even the oil pickup in the sump in some cases. Sounds like an easy get out clause for the companies but it really makes sense as why should they warrant a product which can fail due to negligence elsewhere. If you've bought the turbo brand new from TPS there will most likely be a technical bulletin in the box explaining what they advise you should do/change, any reputable supplier will include that sort of info on a bulletin in the box.
  6. I don't think everyone who offers re-maps knows the best way to extract more from the car, a lot probably just whack up the boost on turbo vehicles which obviously does work to an extent but it then just throws in more fuel to compensate. I'd probably say as a rule that any place that can't re-map a N/A engine might not actually know what they are doing (may not be the case of course), but they probably use generic maps and don't write their own which is the part that can take up hours if factoring in modifications. The map done on my car actually only shows a boost increase of 1psi over standard but makes ~35bhp and a fair chunk of torque more than the factory figures, driven sensibly it can still show mid 60s on the trip computer (whether it actually is that or not is questionable with trip computers, I do use fuelly and measure tank to tank but 90 of my driving is the lovely streets of Sheffield in traffic) but over 600 miles from a tank is easily achievable though if doing long runs. A lot of places will offer "eco" maps which are aimed more at economy but still end up with a power increase anyway just not as much as a "power" aimed map. As mentioned anyway the magic words are "up to" but the figures are to grab your attention, and there probably are a lot of cars that do achieve those maximum percentage figures as they are heavily de-tuned from the manufacturer to meet the emissions criteria.
  7. Top end I have a Roadhawk DC-2, footage is decent, has gps etc, also been very reliable as was the DC-1 I had before. You can also get a hard wire kit (probably could DIY one a lot cheaper than they charge) and also a cage that locks round it to prevent anyone other than you taking the card/power cable out if leaving in a garage to have work done for example. It's also quite slim and apart from a little bit of the power cable between the headlining and the unit itself its completely out of my view when driving as I've got mine behind the rear view mirror.
  8. Hi, I think it will only recognise a card once it has been in the camera. Strange I know. Basically using a blank sd card put it in the camera and power it on for a few seconds. Then try opening it in the software, it will let you change all the settings etc and when you save the new settings it formats the card and updates it with the new settings. Probably not the most intuitive way to do it. Don't forget to use a high speed card and make sure its at least 16gb if doing long journeys, an 8gb only does 2 hours or so *edit* ...at full quality/framerate that is
  9. Cheers bud, Not loads to report, changed the timing belt last weekend, was literally bang on 59000 as I put it in the garage but I daren't write that in the book as it almost looks like I've just guessed at the mileage I had actually missed the interval according to the year on mine so I guess I've been lucky but glad it's done now. Headlight doesn't need to come out but for the 10-20 seconds it takes it gives you a bit more light and access which is useful. Obligatory pic of the car mid way through Thinking of going back to 18's and coilovers at some stage... perhaps even standard ready to sell, but its genuinely a hard car to move on from. I've been fancying an S3 for a while but other than the power increase and 4WD it's quite difficult to justify when I've got a pretty good all rounder in this car. We'll see
  10. It is 4wd friendly. Also interested if date/time works out.
  11. I'm pretty sure it is a superskoda one, either that or the maxton design one off ebay (probably the same thing) but again it was second hand so couldn't tell you exactly.
  12. Ahh I thought you meant mods as in engine specific with you mentioning it being a TDI. Plenty to be done otherwise, plenty of guys with some crazy builds and plenty with even just nice subtle touches that can make it look that bit better, main thing is you do it how you like it and not how everyone else thinks your car should look. Oh and as pointed out by willy by DPF Removal interpret that whichever way you like but the MOT friendly option is to just knock the guts out (or if having a full system done have a pipe made which still looks like a DPF but has none of the internals) Same case with things like HID's where certain testers are pedantic and others aren't
  13. Engine wise? Re-map, EGR delete, DPF removal, all depends how big you want to go or how much you want to spend. You can easily end up at bigger turbos and injectors in the case of PD engines, but I'd guess at the first three being fairly common.
  14. Cheers bud, yeah just DIY. The badge splits easily, and I'm certainly no painter (if you saw the grille up close you'd laugh... I do) but for little things like that I have a go and it looks decent enough.
  15. 225/35R19 mate, these Nexen's look a little more stretched (which isn't my thing) than when I had Avons in the same size on the same wheels.
  16. Funnily enough we set out to buy a Fabia VRS originally but the one we went to look at sold, the Polo was in the forecourt and wasn't even clean as they'd just taken it in as P/X... back on topic though hopefully helps with the wheel colour choice lol
  17. I know it's not even a Fabia but Raven Blue doesn't look a million miles apart... this is the Mrs' car with standard silver above and then Anthracite Grey below.
  18. Hi mate, I assume on a lowered car? If not I imagine it would look pretty terrible. (that is just my opinion though) Seen a couple of guys with air fit 20s and its not too bad to look at I guess but wouldn't go that big personally. Can't comment ride wise but it's going to be worse than 19s even if only marginally.
  19. I agree that I wouldn't have wanted it fitted without painting it, and also that its not up to oem quality but its good enough to do the job and I reckon it looks the part once its painted. As for opening the bonnet I've not bent or modified the latch/handle to lift it or anything, when fitting it pushes the little handle all the way back and obviously you lose the function for it to pop through the grille when you pull the lever inside the car. However with it fitted when you pull the lever inside the car the bonnet still pops up and then you can lift it enough to get your hand under to move the latch and fully open the bonnet no problem, minor inconvenience for a grille that now matches the others.. well on the FL VRS at least. Then if I want or need to put a standard grille back on it will just work as normal and the handle will still pop through as it should.
  20. Looks like the one in the first link is the one I have, I got mine second hand and don't know how old it is so I cant say how good it would have been new quality wise but its decent enough and looks ok once painted up. Technically you don't really use the grille itself to lift the bonnet you're grabbing the bonnet itself which the grille is attached to so nothing to worry about there. This is mine
  21. Like any car of that age there's going to be really good examples and some proper lemons. A lot of good points to look for mentioned above. I had a 2000 B5 estate (although that was a 1.8t I took to 215bhp) so not quite what you're looking at, but when I first bought the car I checked the plenums and the bungs had already been taken out, if you don't park under trees for any considerable time I don't think they are as big an issue as they're made out to be as its only large leaves etc that get stuck in there. This one I had to replace one of the door lock modules eventually, and both CV joints which they seem to have a fair chance of needing but I guess these could technically fall under wear and tear and to be expected. I then had a 2003 B5.5 TDI 130, again checked plenums and didn't have an issue on this one. Items I replaced on this other than what I'd say was usual wear and tear are the drivers window regulator, and I replaced the CCM on it not due to water ingress but for some reason my remote central locking range was only inches from the car and for whatever reason mine was caused by my CCM. I only encountered one bad C/V joint on this one but I replaced both anyway. My Mum now owns this car and its still going strong, admittedly the headlights do cloud up but its not uncommon on a lot of cars with plastic headlight lenses, a bit of polishing compound on a pad on a drill or machine polisher once a year or so keeps on top of this. I'd have another B5/B5.5 again no problem as I think they're a good car and had 2 fairly decent examples, in fact I'd have one over a B6 given the option, but like with any car that's knocking on for 10/15 years old you have to hope the previous owners have looked after it or you will encounter problems, and even if it is the best example in the world there's still a chance of an issue.
  22. Looks that way, it's really busy at work today as you can tell haha
  23. Quite late to the party here, but if you have Neptunes then you need to space them a little, I got mine on with a 3mm spacer. I believe some people have taken to grinding the calipers down a touch in the required places too but I went with spacing the wheels.
