  1. Appreciate your comments but my car was less than 3 months old and this problem manifested itself. Still, as you say, it's unlikely. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  2. Possibly your battery running low? - although admittedly this shouldn't happen when you're running. My 58 plate was fitted with an incorrect battery at the factory unbeknownst to me at the time. If I was sitting on my local rank for half an hour (I'm a taxi) with all the gubbins switched on I'd get a low level bong coming from the speakers (not the dash like fuel or temp etc) and an accompanying message 'low battery' would appear on the stereo display but only for a couple of seconds so I missed it the first few times it happened. Shouldn't happen if you're running but if you've only just started running the battery could be topping up. After 145k miles this is the only speaker bong I've encountered. Others have all come from the dash. Check it out. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  3. <sighs deeply> s-spec means no settings. However, I do have the old style lamps which come with that little metal lever (the tourist lever) that chops off the left hand edge. It was news to me after 145k miles and dozens of euro trips! I have been driving with this lever in the uk position, so extra light on the kerb but why this would blind oncoming on the right is still a mystery. I shall leave the lever on euro setting and see if it majdptamw difference. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  4. I just had a flash of inspiration! Tourist levers. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  5. Watsona6, that was waaay too cryptic. Besides, we've got perfectly good public toilets for that kinda behaviour apparently. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

  7. 6 monthly mot's mean correct alignment and s-spec means no maxidot. Did the swapping cars with a mate thing and they looked ok but it's the best response so far waveydavey [emoji1] I'm not really after hard answers guys. It was meant more of a tongue-in-cheek observation that I guess I should've made clearer from the outset. Apologies to everyone taking it more seriously than I intended. 8. None of the above applies mate but thanks for the lessons. I like to keep my tyres pumped up. Maybe that's it. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  9. Dunno why Tapatalk or Briskoda have deemed it necessary to edit the word S-W-A-N-K-Y. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  10. ...or is it just me. I get flashed regularly at night. They think I've got full beam on but I don't. It's a 58 S-spec so no s****y lights. 6 monthly mot's and I have mentioned it. I do keep the alignment knob at it's highest setting but I've done that in every car I've driven and it's never been an issue. Not that I really care cos I always get that moment of smug satisfaction as they draw level and realise their mistake [emoji56] Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  11. I like 'em but they don't make a blind bit of difference to my fatigue levels at night. Although, thinking about it, maybe they do. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
  12. Been running a 58 plate as a taxi into the ground. The original dual mass lasted 60k miles so replaced it with the solid kit. Now done 150k with no issues. Sure, it's a bit more agricultural and there's a nominal fuel consumption increase but heh. The original dual mass lasted 60k and was £400. The kit was £400 but it's still going after another 90k and will cost £100 to change so I'm not complaining.
  13. Hi everyone. Bought my s-spec over a year ago and am very happy with it. 30k hassle-free (almost) miles so far. It came equipped with the Swing stereo which is fine but I was wondering if anyone has successfully managed to upgrade to the Bolero and how they went about it. I am not interested in the Colombus as I'd rather use my own satnav. Any suggestions gratefully received.
  14. My bog standard s-spec came with a full size spare thankfully but beware of the jacks as they don't inspire confidence. None of this made any difference last month when both back tyres punctured at the same time. Not much fun. Lesson learned? Ditch the crappy vag jack and keep a decent one in the boot.
  15. Cornering function? Wow! How does that work then? Not an option on my s-spec. Is it as useful as parking assist?
  16. Thanks for that info. It does make sense. In your experience how often does this process happen? Daily? Weekly? For the first 6 months it never happened, then it started gradually and now it's a regular thing. Had it checked by Skoda but the computer said no even while the car was doing it in front of them!!! if you have a DPF then the regeneration process raises the idle RPM to 1K for a short period of time, this is what I think is happening to you. It will do it more often if you only use the car for regular shortish trips where the engine does not run at operating temperature for a period of time.
  17. I have an S-spec with no maxidot. The DLR's can be switched on and off at will by using a combination of the indicator stalk and the ignition. It was all fully explained in the manual. It's nothing to do with the foglights. Instead the dipped lights run at 60% of capacity.
  18. Hi everyone, Glad you liked the review. I'm from the north Kent coast which sounds rather nice when I put it like that. I too noticed the second computer resetting itself. 99 hours is nowhere near enough. My combined fuel consumption is probably somewhere around the 44 mpg mark. I know this sounds a bit vague but I tend not to put too much faith in dashboard readouts. Cold starts, short runs etc all contribute to negative consumption and fluctuating readings. It's easy for me to check based on mileages and fuel receipts but that's just way to much hassle for the purposes of this forum man. I liked the widow-maker comment. It was the first time that wheel's come off and they tend to stick so giving it major amounts of welly with that jack fully extended increased the pulse rate considerably. Now I keep a proper jack in the boot just in case. Other things that spring to mind include collecting the car with the daytime running light function switched on and not realising it. That led to a few head scratching moments when I got it home along with the grammar in the manual. Love the DRL's though. I've always switched on anyway. Just one of those things that some drivers do. Glad the EU are making them compulsory. Another thing that annoys me are the wipers that stop when you come to a standstill because of the delay before they kick in when you pull away again. That's one occasion when you need a clear windscreen. Still loving the car. Can't really fault it or it's VW underpinnings. A friend of mine recently came back from several months in the middle east and said that every taxi there was an Octy. All those taxi drivers can't be wrong. Still very pleased I bought it. I'd considered a Mondeo estate but Ford's prices have rocketed and I don't think the fit and finish is the same as my car. Any further comments gratefully received.
  19. Hi everyone, these are my thoughts after a year and 24k miles with a 58-plate, S-spec, candy white, 1.9 tdi/105 running as a taxi in Kent. It's the classiest taxi on the rank by far and I'm the scruffiest driver! A perfect match. Still get the 'nice car' comments a year in. Interior is very impressive and looks great. The space and classy feel is often commented on. I like pulling away from the rank at night with daytime running lights on, give it a couple of minutes then flick the switch to Auto which brings on all the interior and dashboard lights. When it works I always get a chuckle. There are a few dashboard rattles and the door trim where I rest my right elbow has started to sag but in general it feels well screwed together. Driver's space is a bit tight but at least everything is in easy reach. Not that I have many toys in my S-spec. The lack of a right footrest or bottle holder in the door bin seem strange omissions. So does that little pocket in the seat by your right thigh. Why don't the coin-slots hold pound coins? Has anyone checked to see if they hold euros? Personally, I think my passengers get the most out of the interior. I cannot really fault the overall quality. It feels robust enough to withstand another year. Looks great in candy white especially when you clean it. Don't think I'd want any other colour. Front end is nicely aggressive. Wraparound lights look great, even the fogs. Extra large mirrors do a good job. The twinboot is more useful than I thought. It was the second thing the dealer enthusiastically showed me and I was deeply unimpressed. It has grown on me though. I like loading up through the hatch, take my time getting out the other end, let them open the boot and get a good laugh demonstrating it. Always good for a laugh. I've heard the ugly rear-end arguments which don't really bother me being a taxi even if it is also my personal vehicle. Maybe the twinboot restricted Skoda's design. Mid range torque is punchy making the car feel quick even if it is a bit flaky at the top end. 105 bhp is enough for me but sometimes I wish for more. This is rare as most of my work is around town where it feels nimble with nicely weighted steering. It's a large car but doesn't feel it to drive. Diesel consumption is difficult to assess especially with a brand new taxi but with a year and 24k on the clock I am seeing it improve. The car has been maintenance free apart from tyres and servicing. The supplied jack does not inspire confidence but at least the S-spec comes with a full size spare. There have been a couple of electrical glitches. Nothing major and nothing to take me off the road but still requiring a call to my local dealer. Unfortunately, if the computer says no you have no chance. This is very frustrating especially as they have no problem selling me accessories. They'll even do free p&p but they'll claw that back with overpriced servicing. The car's the star. It has road presence, feels robust and has been largely hassle-free. Fingers crossed for another year of dealerless motoring. Not a very informative review but maybe it'll spark some interest.
  20. Same with my taxi. My locks are always on and people are always pulling the handles which probably doesn't help. I just WD40'd all the door handles and hasn't happened since. Not sure what else a dealer would do although I do agree about making them do the donkey-work. They are unhelpful enough at the best of times.
  21. Ah well who knows. One day I will have an answer. Any other interesting niggles or do I have to start again?
  22. Re: the dpf, I think mine does. Some were some weren't. Dunno if that makes me lucky or not. If I do then the regeneration thing sounds plausible. Shortish trips etc. Skoda were next to useless. Computer says no. I hate that. I wish they did a Haynes manual. 1k rpm seems very high and it makes an awful racket. Settles down eventually but can't be good for diesel consumption. Another taxi? There's a few of us popping up. I still get nice remarks a year in. Good job they can't see the buckled door trim where your right elbow rests.
  23. Newbie going in all guns blazing. It's a Candy White 1.9tdi/105 in S trim. 23k as a taxi in it's first year. Very pleased on the whole. Idle speed sometimes plays up. At normal operating temp. it'll start idling at 1k rpm. Will eventually settle about 5-10 mins later to the usual 850. No hunting. It's almost like an 'electronic choke' is kicking in. Is this normal? Any ideas gratefully considered.
