  1. Land Rover Discovery?

You can take the whole family offroading too!

Only one problem, you did say reliable didn't you? :o

So is your budget about 8k ?

yes mate budget was 8k ...... I went out to get the touran on monday, I spoke to the the sales guy on monday morning and he was going to keep it over until 2pm for me, I was running late and the time I got there it was after 3 and guess what?.... yes it was SOLD... gutted to say the least....

so today I went for the plan B and went for the Zafira, from local main dealer an 06 zafira Design 51k 120bhp for 7499£ over five years £187 per month and only 3 month warranty... £400 to upgrade to a year...

I had a few more to see so off i went to another dealer...

06 zafira club 34k on clock 1.9cdti 120 bhp, black, £7400, was all set to buy this one, the sale guy went to get it from the compound and guess what.... it had been stolen..... gutted again...

so told the dealer I was going to go back to the dealer that was selling the zafira design, and he told me he could do me a good deal, as he didnt want me going back to the other guy...

so, I got a 07 Sri 19.cdti 150 bhp, in black with privacy glass, ok it was £8300 but he gave a good APR, got the car with full mot, tank of diesel, mats n flaps, years warranty and the repayments only £194 per month £7 more than the first car.... was well pleased :)

  2. lol now your all making things hard for me.... to many options.. I have looked at Galaxys , Sharans, Alphambras etc but they all seem to be very high mileage at the price im looking....

have just been on a few touran forums and they seem to be a dog of a car with numerous faults , like pas pumps going all the time, steering racks, abs modules etc... but im sure that if I looked into forums for all cars id find the same? right?

Im just looking a good reliable people carrier, just wish skoda did one :(

    any more suggestions? :)

  3. the time has come when I have out grown my little fabia..... time for a family car me thinks... I have been looking around at various makes and models and have a few shortlisted:

Vauxhall zafira design : think this is top of the range (don't really know) possible a 1.9 or 1.7 tdi on an 08 plate £7400 50k on clock

    or

Vw Touran 1.9TDi S 90pd , on an 06 plate , black with alloys , air con , 6 speed etc all usual stuff, 24k on clock .... £7995 full service history

am needing a 7 seater cos have 2 kids with previous relationship and 2 in current and 1 on way, so Fabia is out the door , any ideas or prefs??

Im really thinking the vw but the zafira is 2 years younger for less money but has more miles....

  4. ive saw a set of 15" steelies on gum tree from a vw and emailed the guy to see what the pcd is ie 5x100 or 5x112 , he got back to me saying he didnt know but gave me these numbers :

    ET47, 1K601, 027C, 6JY15H2

he dosent know what car they are off but they r vw

can anyone confirm if they will fit a fabia , thanks guys

  5. did you break any of the clips holding the door card on when you were doing it? ive been told to get loads of new ones just in case. tom.

didnt break any ....just stuck a long screwdriver under the panel and gave a hard yank and popped the first clip then moved around until all popped, some of the clips did remain in the door thou, removed them by grabbing them with a pair of snips

  6. LOTS of posts asbout this problem, and my fabias got it to------------just a thought-------

how about using "DENZO" tape to fix the problem-------------is horrible stuff but keeps water out ,its used on unground cables, drain pipes etc etc etc

    any ideas guys?

it might work, ...... wont know until you try lol

i did mine today when I was at work took me half an hour.... was unplanned and spare of the moment thing... I was in our stores and found a silicone gun with something init called tec7... Had a read of the tube and it said it was for wet application and didnt dry hard and stayed flexible... so i took it and did it in the work car park...

just looked it up on the net

" * For all applications, as well in building, bathroom as in general maintenance TEC7 replaces: mounting, wood and P.U. adhesive, silicone sealants, sanitary silicone sealants, acrylic sealants, butyl rubber sealants.

    * As universal adhesive TEC7 bonds to most surfaces and does not attack synthetic material.

    * On mirrors (vertical strips), on natural stone (does not bleed through), polyester, polystyrene foam, wet surfaces, even under water.

    * Repaintable with all common paints."

its made by NOVATECH and is about £8 a tube

    website

you can get this from builders merchants etc

  7. My 06 1.2 Fabia had it's MOT on wednesday and passed, except I got an advisory for the rear tyres which are starting to crack : :wonder: (Obviously previous owner only got the front ones replaced and didn't bother with the rears)

Anyways, how much can I expect to fork out for 2 185/60/R15's + fitting costs? What are the best (and safe) cheap brands?

    Cheers

allow around £40 -50 for a good half decent tyre..... I have kumho ecsta`s on mine and the seem to be pretty good...

your choice of tyre size does not seem correct, for a 15 inch wheel , ( well mine anyway) I think you need a 195/50/r15

    hope this helps

    [edit]

doh... you beat me too it Jim lol

  8. Glad its sorted  would never have expected it to be that

Anybody know where the ECU is located?

I thought the ECU is under the bonnett behind the air box, silver anybody know what that is?

yea i thought that was the ecu as well ... mine is just above the abs module and says "siemens" on it.... unless thats something to do with the abs too...

  9. With the darker days / nights I think its time to upgrade the lights. Are there any websites that sell the H7 OSRAM Night Breaker Plus bulbs at a decent saving or are autobulbsdirect my best bet ? Im a little worried about buying from Ebay incase of fakes but willing to purchase from there if a few people bought from the same seller.

For example there is one guy selling them for £13.99 on the bay. Looks a real bargain but only if they are real.

    Thank you

powerbulbs are good have used them recently myself

    linky

  10. Did you get any further? Only just ordered and got my fog lamps from Jorily, fitting them to the car without wiring up. Worth it as a fashion accessory for the car alone I think :D need to look into wiring and a switch later.

just saw your pic on other thread .... no mate no further yet, bought soldering iron from maplins yesterday so will tackle wiring on saturday hopefully... weather permitting

defo changes the look of the car for the better

  11. probably carriage seal one or both of the rear doors, ... lets water into the floor of the car when it rains the car gets all misty when it heats up... thousands of threads on here about it .... get your tool kit out and some roof sealant.... not a big job

    linky

  12. Hi guys,

I'm currently off the road so have sold my Primera GT as it's pointless having such a rare car sitting about doing nothing. However, I am now looking at the Fabia Saloon SDi for the fuel economy, reasonable spec over the Octavia SDi and low insurance group.

I know the saloon was kinda a model of it's own, but what sort of things can be retrofitted into the saloon? I see that there's room for front fog lights in the bumper... Is it just a case of replace the switch, fit the lights and bob's your uncle?

Is the Fabia wired up for everything and just fitted with what it's specified with? Cos' I'm looking for a project to take me through the winter months.

    Cheers,

    Stu

nope not wired up for everything.... at least mine wasnt any way... I fitted fogs to mine and a new switch, the wiring is not there but not hard to do..... I still havent finished mine yet due to working long hours,

check out this post..... is a good bit down linky

  13. Ask the dealer to get the previous owner to fill in a replacement V5 application, he must have some sort of contact details for the previous owner. Once the previous owner receives it, he can sign the registered keeper bit at the bottom, then pass it on to you.

Never buy a car without the V5 is the moral of the story.

I got it in good faith... well I thought I did ... he told me the previous owner would drop it into him, then he (the dealer) would post it on to me .... now he says the PO says that it was in the car which its not.... Did rac car check on the car and came back clear for all the usual stuff so i didnt worry much at the time...
