  1. Of course I will pop in from time to time. The withdrawal pangs after five years are too strong!! All the best you lucky Superb owners!!
  2. Sad day for me. I've traded my Superb Elegance in for a VW Golf (103 TSI). Just downsized our house to a much smaller villa and the Skoda is just too snug in the garage. With 85000kms on the clock its just about the right time. Haven't had any serious problems with the car and sorry to see it go - such a great car to drive!! Will pop in here from time to time to see what's happening. Thanks Briskoda...I gained many a useful tip from the posts.
  3. I like it. Probably owes some of its design to Jag but still a good look.
  4. Are you using Dunlop Sports Max tyres?? Dreadful sawtoothing issues with that particular tyre. Notice that Skoda are still putting them on new cars notwithstanding their level of crappiness-must be dead cheap in bulk.
  5. I watched the dealer replace mine. Pulled half the boot lining out! Doable but by more mechanically minded than me!!
  6. Happened to me while back when almost empty!! Little gizmo inside the flap is electrically controlled and my died. New part took three weeks to arrive at my dealer. Eventually got the flap open with knife blade wrapped in cloth (to protect paint) and left flap open until repaired. Since discovered that Skoda Aust do not keep parts in stock apart from "high use parts" such as bumpers etc that are damaged in collisions. Sensors and fiddly bits come in from Singapore.. BTW, open gently as the flap catch is plastic and breaking it off turns it into a major issue!
  7. That's pretty cool with the foglights! I was pulled up by a highway patrolman here some time back who reprimanded/cautioned me for using the foglights during the day in the absence of fog. According to him, they are too bright and risky for other drivers. Since then, I have installed aftermarket LED DRLs which seem to me to be brighter than the fogs but compliant!
  8. I've recently noticed my coolant level is down. (where does the fluid go??) are there any critical factors involved in topping up or will any good quality fluid suit?
  9. I heard about the repair kit after mine was fixed with the whole new light assembly. Guess dealers sign a company pledge that they must not suggest cheaper options to owners. I first detected the problem when I was washing the bird remains off the light lens and noticed the whole light assembly moved laterally. Did not see the broken unit as a matter of fact. Reminds me of mechanical shops in Asian countries where I worked for some years....after a service/tuneup, the mechanic invariably hands you a plastic bag of your old parts. Seems when you ask an Australian mechanic for the same thing, they get insulted and assume their integrity is being questioned. Just seems like decent business practice to me.
  10. While back I collected a large white spoonbill while travelling around 100kph. It struck the car beside the grill close to the headlight glass. Did not mark the paintwork but broke the brackets that fasten the headlight assembly in place. Cost over $1000 to replace the entire headlight assembly and the pop out washer gizmo. The bird didn't' make it.
  11. I have 6spd and do not experience your issues at all. Mine downshifts smoothly and none of noticeable ""nosing down"" you describe. I would talk to the dealer and take him for a spin to reassure yourself. A good DSG is a dream!!
  12. Not knowing about the gizmo you can buy to adapt the fog lights to DRL, I had an aftermarket LED set installed. Wired so that they only operate when other head/park lights are off and when the ignition is turned off they remain on for 40 seconds which is handy at night looking for the front door key!! I've struggled with the upload of a photo and hope what I have done works!!
  13. Not sure you can blame the compliance system. My Superb was manufactured in September in Czech Republic and was delivered to me on November 19 (same year)!!
  14. I was being ironic....sorry if too subtle Old chap.
  15. Brevity is the sole of wit! My superb came from the factory with Dunlop Sports Max - crap tyres - edges wear creating dreadful noise (sawtoothing). Switched to Conti 3s. Brilliant and got close to 50000kms and now with Michelin Primacy (made in China incidentally) Michelins are very quite and give good grip although I drive within limits of speed signs and common sense.
  16. Where I live, the town centre has angle parking front in and many of the parking spots are inclined toward the gutter. I have a dreadful time reversing out as a gap appears in traffic. The pause as the gear engages after taking foot of the brake is a problem as I try to get into the traffic lane again. But theñ I have only been dealing with this Skoda trait for 4 years or so. Maybe soon I'll have it!!
  17. Very clever with the Google stuff. I'm impressed!!
  18. How would the water get inside the car if the drain holes were blocked with debris. Surely the drain holes are the preferred way to get rid of water but if that channel fills up (just experimented with my car) it just overflows into the engine are....no access to interior there.
  19. Just to correct an error I made......checked my new tyres and they are Primacy 3s rather than Pilot Sports. Don't know why I did that! Sorry.
  20. Read the topic. Rushed outside and hit my car with WD. Nothing like a quick alert to initiate a service call!
  21. Just replaced my Conti 3s with Michelin Pilot Sport 3's at the 75000km point. The Contis did just a tick over 55000kms. Car was supplied with Dunlop (juk) Sportss Max which have to be among ther world''s worst tyre. The Contis were excellent in wet and dry, quiet and good grip. My tyre dealer couldn't really split Contis and Michellin however the latter were on a deal which saved me a few hundred bucks. So far so good. Quite as a mouse but no rain lately to test the grip.
  22. My Superb has just passed 74000kms and I am still an enthusiastic owner. The Dunlop crappos that came with the car were dreadful and I flicked them at 12K mainly due to the ungodly noise from sawtoothing. Replaced with Conti 3s which receive a tyre dealer provided alignment & balance every 10k and seem like they will last for ever. The alignment is usually out a little which is explained by our poor roads rather than a Skoda fault. Only other issues have been under warranty (I have an after market extended warranty also up to 100k) An engine sensor caused the dealer and me lots of time until it was diagnosed then replaced followed by a fuel filler release gadget that failed. Everything else is fine. I have noticed some wear on the driver's seat squab where I seem to rub it getting out of the car and hopefully it will not wear all the way through the 'leather'. Just replaced the battery after failure this week and according to other posts, I've done well as it has been working hard since November 2009. I think always garaging the car plus our temperate climate looks after a battery a lot longer than chilly UK. Would I buy another? In a heart beat!!
  23. I purchased an extended warranty from Allianz Insurance as it was a $1000 cheaper than Skoda. I've had two claims - an exhaust sensor that took two weeks of painful interaction with the dealer and a fuel lid catch that also took two weeks of negotiation. None of the problems were with the warranty provider - they were excellent - just Skoda and their lack of parts . One worrying fact I learned though was that after market insurance covers repairs BUT NOT the investigation of the fault. To be honest, I only bought it during the DSG worldwide issue as the potential cost of replacement/repair should my car be involved was worrying.
