  1. It went into the Dealer today, fortunately we have a warranty and that will cover a replacement. Trouble is 8 weekish wait for a replacement unit to be delivered.
  2. Sadly mine seems to be suffering from the same issue. Does anyone have experience of a good equivalent of Satnav systems based in the southwest? Or does Satnav offer a postal service? If so, how does on get the current unit out of the dashboard?
  3. Sorry for the delay in updating. The short version is: it was done under warranty, so I'm none the wiser on how I would have done it myself The slightly longer version is: I called Sokda UK on this to try to get some guidance whether it would be covered by the warranty, they said that a Dealer would need to assess and report to Skoda UK before a decision would be taken. I had a service coming up so I had the 'assessment' done whilst it was in for the service. I'd already got the part, so was relieved for find that there was no bill. Given what the spares man at the first Dealer had said about it being a fiddly job I guess that the labour charge could have been significant. I'm still curious to know the 'official' way to do this.
  4. I thought about both of the above. Looking at the video the design is quite different from the Yeti - the clip arrangement is definately different and because it is metal rather than plastic I doing think that the snap it off and push down would work (most likely you could snap the top off but then be stuck with the rest of the fitting in situ. On twist and pull, I gently tried that, but no joy. I think unlike light bulbs with are designed to be replaced by the end user, the head restraint fittings are 'life time' / 'not user serviceable', As the car is still under warranty I've book edit into my Dealer saying I believe this is a covered by warranty and not 'wear and tear'. They won't opine either way untill they get is and talk to Skoda UK. In the worst case I'm going to have an expensive labour bill to fit a £7 part, in the best case, I'll just have paid out for the part. Fingers crossed. I'll let you know later in the month what happens.
  5. Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately the spiked clip isn't squeezy - I looked closely on the replacement part and it is rock solid with no obvious 'release'. Getting inside the seat doesn't look easy either. I'm wondering if this would a valid warranty claim. It clearly isn't a wear and tear item and isn't purely cosmetic. I guess the worst Skoda could say is "no"
  6. Somehow the little clip that you squeeze to adjust the driver's head restraint (yes, I know not a "head rest") has disappeared. The first attached photo shows what I'm talking about. I spoke with the friendly parts / service person at Murray Skoda and ordered up the replacement bit (you can not buy the clip, you have to buy the entire barrel assembly). The chap warned me that it was a fiddly job. The replacement bit arrived (photos attached) and you can see there there is a 'spike' that is clearly intended to stop the barrel from coming out when attempts to raise the head restraint without squeezing the release clip happen. Having looked closely at the replacement part there doesn't seem to be an easy option of just taking the clip from the new part and inserting it into the original. So, how do I get inside the seat to do the necessary (and what is "the necessary") or is it one of those jobs that really needs to be done by the Dealer's Service Dept? There are two drivers for the car and we're not both the same height, so the "just ignore it" option isn't really what we want to do? This is a FL TSi 1.2 SE in case it makes any difference. Suggestions?
  7. Likewise transcity. Note they will do a pick up / drop off which avoids the small site issue
  8. Collected the new 1.2 TSI Drive SE today from Transcity, we'd waited for 17 plate and let the rush die down back delaying a further week for the pick up. We'd ordered a few more options than previously so it was good that Reece gave us a comphrehensive hand over. Starting to get my head around SmartLink - that looks useful, SmartGate I'm not so sure about - time will tell on that one. Heated seats will be a new experience for us. This will be our third Yeti. We has be bizarre experience when we noticed that parked up just next to the new one was the very first one! The first one clearly had been driven and used, but it is strange to suddenly meet up with an old friend.
  9. Well, I went and had the conversation with the Dealer, bought an TSI 1.2 SE L Drive with a few bells and whistles, PEX current 13 plate SE TSI 1.2 (checked with WBAC for a market estimate), took advantage of the interest free credit to get the £1000 contribution, then a bit more off as a result of testing the market via CarWow & DTD. In the end, its going to cost me around £10,900 to swap. Could I have done better on price, possibly; am I happy to be dealing with a local business that I've had the last two yetis through, definitely! Local dealer dealt with my woes with the panoramic sun roof on the first yeti well, and I've every expectation that if anything crops up on the new one they try to sort it. Now the wait begins...
  10. Thinking about my third one.... Anybody got as far as "the discussion" with a Dealer yet? What sort of discount on the RRP is on offer?
  11. It doesn't seem like three years since SM #2 came to live with us, but as we plan to hang onto this one, thoughts turn to extended warranties. I've done some basic checking and had quotes from Skoda themselves, Warranty Direct, Warrantywise and CLick4Warranty. I've tried to get like for like (car has 30k on the cliock now; assuming <15k a year; fsh at main dealer; comphrensive cover); zero or minimum excess. I'm surprised at the price difference. Skoda Extended Warranty (£241.78); Warranty Direct (£299); Warrantywise (£435)!; Click4Warranty (£278.66) I know the devil is in the detail and it is what happens when you need to claim that makes the difference. My questions to the forum: Have I missed off any good provider from my research Any practical experience of claims (good or bad) Gotchas Thanks
  12. Mine started sticking, it would free up with multiple lock / unlocks. I had dealer check / lubricate when servicing. Lesson, I think, is not to ignore an intermittent fault, not funny to be running on fumes and a locked fuel cap!
  13. enjoying the replacement Yeti, but missing the sun roof....

  14. A previous discussion on this point (and related) http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/277806-amundsen-how-do-i-mute-pause-tell-gps-to-remember-here/
  15. Thank you so much. Most helpful. Now, if only somebody could tell me a way to enter the various service areas as either destinations or stop overs (or a convenient why finding the post code of the relevant service area.
  16. My new Yeti SE+ came with an Amundsen+. Inspite of reading the manuals and trying what seems obvious ways of doing things I can not find how to: Temporarily mute what ever sound source is active (on my old Yeti / Columbus, I could just click the LHS thumb wheel or press the 'phone' button). If I am playing from a recorded source (SD card, CD, 6 x CD) I used to have the option to pause on the Columbus but there doesn't appear to be an equiv on the Amundsen+ My biggest niggle: I really want the GPS to be able to record 'here' so I can come back to 'here' later (for example a Service Area - don't get me started about the difficulty of selecting a particular service area as a stop over) Does anybody know how to do any or all of the above? Thanks
  17. Aviva denied all knowledge of my new 1.2 TSI SE+ although they did have an 'urban' spec on the pick list which I believe is the name for it in another market. Fortunately the UK agent had his brain switched on and called me back a few hours later having done some research on the Skoda UK website and then (somehow) forced the spec onto the pick list...but it did take a long time on the phone.
  18. Having taken delivery of the new beastie at the weekend I'm busy working my way through configuration that the Amundsen+ & SE+ offers. Our phones synced up with bluetooth perfectly (we didn't have that previously) and I've managed to carry over the various settings from the old SE. However there is one thing that I can not work out. On the old beastie we had a Columbus ICE and when we selected reverse we got a loud beep and what ever audio source was active at the time was silenced whilst we carefully reversed awaiting the rear parking sensor beep, beep, beeps. On the new SM I can change the volume and tone of the 'loud beep' but the audio doesn't automatically silence. I looked on the Assistants / PDC menu but couldn't see anything there. Is it possible (if so how?) Thanks for anticipated help
  19. Second purchase from Transcity completed today. Bit of a problem the delivery of the car I had ordered as it suffered damage during delivery (http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/272562-good-news-and-bad-news/) but Warren worked with SUK to get a sensible solution that we were happy with. We've have the previous car serviced by Transcity and their collection / delivery service was efficient. Reece very pleasant and efficient on the hand over
  20. The day finally came, after a false start (http://www.briskoda....s-and-bad-news/), for my trusty SE to return from whence it came and its successor to take centre stage. Hand over was efficient although they have forgotten to put in the mats and spare wheel from the "one that never made it" (quickly sorted) and the little tweezers that pull the caps that cover the wheel nuts were missing - pays to check the details! The Dealer's mechanics swapped the head and fog light bulbs for the the Ring ones that I'd bought. The Dealer was unfazed by my request to put some of the payment of the credit card (http://www.briskoda....-75-protection/) Being an SE+ (or may be an Amibition or an Urban depending which Skoda system you ask) it had a few new toys that we didn't have first time around. The DAB radio is nice and I'm starting to understand the sat nav (does anybody know where the sat nav display can display the speed according to the GPS?) Took it for a long ride (130 miles) and managed to get an average of around 45mpg reported. Now we just have to get used to the fact that our car seems to have mysteriously changed colour but in all other respects appears the same! Only down side is that the replacement isn't our chosen colour - so we have what my son refers to as Ford Focus Blue (Skoda = Shark Blue)
  21. Why? Belt and braces if I can get the 'braces' effectively for free....
  22. Hopefully the replacement new beastie will appear shortly (well, actually the replacement for the replacement [detail: http://www.briskoda....-and-bad-news/]), so the question of how I'm going to actually get the money into the hands of the dealer comes up. I'm curious if anybody has included a small credit card payment in order to get Section 75 protections (it is single item, it is between £100 and £30,000). Everything I read tells me that I don't need to make full payment on the card. A small payment isn't really going to impact the Dealers margin significantly (otherwise I'd put the whole thing on my cash back card and clear the balance at the end of the month). Is this too much palaver as Sale of Goods Act gives me rights also?
