  1. Any Octavia vrs mk1 owners know the exact location of the air con pressure sensor? I haven’t had air con for a few years , but recently got it gassed and then still none. Running vcds it found the air con pressure sensor code showing. Ive purchase a switch and then I began to fit, what I thought was the pressure sensor. Either I’m in the wrong place or the new part is wrong. On the air con compressor there’s a pipe coming of that has a sensor with electrical plug. I thought this was it but the new part is slightly smaller and has three electrical outlets whereas the original, or what I thought was it, has two. googling the part number , I believe I do have the right part, so I’m probably looking in the wrong place! any ideas??? TIA
  2. For anyone having difficulty in doing an alternator on a mk1 octavia vrs.... I did this yesterday. All in, not too bad a job. removed battery to charge it. Took of big jubilee clip with 7mm socket holding rubber pipe to throttle body. 5mm Allen x4 to remove throttle body and took electric connection off this plus a 7mm jubilee clip. Removed plug off alternator that’s easily accessible. 16mm spanner on auxiliary belt tensioner and then put a 4mm drill bit in the tensioner holes to hold tension off belt. Removed belt. Two 13mm bolts hold alternator on. Bit of wiggling and alternator comes away. You then have earth cable strap still on alternator. Remove an 8mm nut holding strap in place then the bigger 13mm is easy to take off. Alternator then comes straight up and out. New one was a napa make but has valeo written all over it like the original. Mine was a 90amp. 136 quid for new and kept old. I believe the old one just needs a regulator. Bearings in old one sound and feel fine and quiet. TPS wanted 303+vat for theirs. Battery back in, but before I did. I checked earth strap under battery tray and it was starting to rust a little bit in good nik. Cleaned it all and added anti corrosion to it and put all back. Having started car battery shows 14.27v across it. All good 👍
  3. I've been researching this myself.......You're right they do rust the pins as water gets in. Today.... its 330+VAT. What did you do in the end. I appreciate the post is a few years old. Thanks in advance
  4. To all, i felt I needed to share this even if the problem has occurred before and been resolved. vehicle- 2002 Octavia vrs problem- overheating in traffic for some time I noticed that in traffic the temperature would creep up beyond the vertical, where it normally sits at 90, no matter what style of driving. the fan would not cut in to cool. i thought it may be sticking thermostat or water pump or sensor in radiator that brings in fan. only on investigation and research , I discovered aircon didn't appear to be as cool as it should, therefore discovering the fan that sits alongside other also didn't work. fearing head gasket also, I started with easiest problem, which turned out to be the problem. There are three green fuses sat on top of the battery. It was visibly clear the left one showed signs of poor contact and burning. On cleaning the contact, both cooling fan for engine and aicon fan began to work. I hope this thread helps someone else, cheers
  5. It's the cable from lock to door handle. You can adjust where the plastic nipple sits. DO NOT over adjust i.e. move the seated position to far out . What I mean by this is that your handle will then sit flush but the door won't open because the cable won't return far enough back to the mechanism. This dead locks the door. If anyone has done this then a sway of your hips against the outside of the door around the handle, closing the door further may release it.
  6. Would love to know answer to this. My vrs Oct 02 plate. Judders or idles rough now and then. I don't know the answer to this but few months ago a coilpack went. This symptom is similar but not as aggressive. Could it be another coilpack breakdown. Any answers would be great.
  7. I had my coil packs replaced under warranty from 'J' version to 'L' version, back in Feb 2006 on 27,000 miles.(albeit they hadn't failed) First 'L' version failure on cylinder no. 1 on 18th Jan 2010 at 51,000 miles. The new version I have now ends with a 'D'. Was told this is the latest version as of October 2009. Hope this lasts!!! £ 26.10 + vat at TPS. For anyone who needs to know the symptoms, well it misfires on tickover and through the rev range. Firing on only 3 cylinders. The orange engine mangement light was flashing for a minute or two then remained on constant. Terrible smell of rotten eggs from exhaust. Once replaced faulty item, the engine mangement stays on, storing the code in ECU. Had a friend switch the light off with VAG COM for free and showing no more faults.
  8. Thanks for the response. I'll check it out
  9. I have searched the forum, however it apears that others don't have the same problem just similar. From the fob, all doors open and lock- no issues. If sat in my octy vrs mk1 2002, with all doors closed and I operate the door lock switch on the drivers door next to the window switches, instantly all doors lock but the front passenger door immediately unlocks. Weird! I have noticed that the front passenger door is the only one when opened that will not put the interior courtesy light on and the red puddle light on the door does not illuminate either. Weird! Thanks in advance for help with this very annoying niggle.
  10. I take it all back. I spoke to local Skoda dealership who apparently had never heard of the coil pack problem. When I got there, they stated they would ask. Got the car back at 4pm today with new coil packs the 'L' version, and guess what- FOC. Well done skoda no more misfires at tickover or low revs. My thanks to all for this thread. Oh, and I have had my car serviced from new at regular intervals. It is 4 years old in March 2006, but only has 27,000 on clock. This played a big part in getting them free.
  11. Where did the information about them being covered for 5 years irrespective of warranty come from? I have the ones that end in 'H' and have had my car serviced regularly at a dealership. I have discovered this misfire and my local skoda state, if there faulty, I pay.
  12. This is a very interesting thread. I have found that on my march registered 02 plated vrs I have an intermittent misfire. Having had this niggling problem, I searched the forum and found this thread. I have found I have the 'H' version of coil packs fitted. I spoke to skoda, my local skoda that is, and they will look at it for me, but thay say the there was no recall on my car for this problem. Are they lying, cos in their next breath they state that if it is the coil packs at fault then, I would most likely have to foot the cost. Again, is this true. Where is the evidence that these coils packs are faulty across the range and that they were replaced FOC? My car suffered this misfire last winter, but when summer came it stopped. Again, it's winter and it's back. Who can I write or e-mail to get confirmation? They also stated that some 'H' packs were faulty and some weren't, it all depended on the month of manufacture of the car and not the pack. Again, is this another story from Skoda to not pay for the fault? I'm not sure if I can slag off the dealership, but if i do I'm sure this will be edited. xxxxxxxx skoda, you are really poor. However, Powick Skoda near Worcester, you're very helpful. Think I'll take my business there in future,it's worth the drive. Anyone reading this please respond soon, my car is in the garage tomorrow.
  13. I'm sure anything is possible with money. Sorry about the initial vague question, but what I was after is; A friend has an Octavia on a 55 plate, this being the octy I,and he says it has the new 2.0 FSI engine. I have looked under the bonnet and it looks the same as mine. I have 1.8. Does the the new motor look any different under the bonnet. There was one difference, the roof lining is a dark colour where as mine is the same coluor as the carpets. Apart from that the car is identical. Any ideas?
  14. Rumour or not? Can anyone with knowledge let me know if its possible to have an Octavia vrs on a 55 plate with the new FSI engine. This octy being an octavia 1 and not the new II.
