  1. Is your friend living in Bulgaria?
  2. Well, my car was hit whilst parked causing extensive damage, and it looks like it’s a write off,I have a new pair of rear mudflaps and the sat nav that plugs into the dash? If no one is interested I suppose this is goodbye😟
  3. Well, my Citigo failed today on front subframe corrosion, left iit ithe with the garage to fix , they say they are ordering the part, approximately £400. I have searched online and can only find used ones, which they definitely wouldn’t entertain. Not really worried about the price, ,just don’t want to be stuck with car that can’t be fixed Anyone know if these are available? Thanks
  4. Just to say that I successfully replaced the battery obtained from eBay(£12), I was told by Garmin that owner battery replacement was not possible. It was surprisingly easy, 4 screws, unclip edges (start at top and sides)the bottom will have a ribbon cable that can stay attached(acting almost as a hinge). The microphone will dislodge but is easy to replace. No idea of battery longevity, but worth a try if you need to replace.
  5. Thanks Simon, received a battery yesterday and changed it using the very same guide. Appreciate your help
  6. I have a Garmin 4NSF Sat Nav as supplied from new, has anyone changed the battery? I have put it on charge from a phone charger as the battery warning came up. Replacement batteries are advertised on eBay, but have no idea of if I can replace it myself. Any help much appreciated. Thanks
  7. Looks excellent AG, nowhere other than roadside to wok on mine, but definitely a very good job. Thanks Pete
  8. Not,much, just brushed some engine oil,on the seams, trying to save some money for next mot, unsure what would constitute significant corrosion mot failure. Thanks
  9. Not sure how to mark as solution, so just to say thanks to everyone who replied.
  10. Thanks Pete, the rust is on the seams, they are quite crusty and are separating, can't see how that would ever affect the strength unless they disappeared! In my day oil leaks from engines provided sufficient anti rust for such items. I brushed some engine oil on after a bit of wire brushing, I know it can't last, but it made me feel better!
  11. Think my local garage wouldn't fit a used one, so Skoda may well be what has to be, my garage said around £500 to supply and fit, if needed for next year's MOT. Thanks for replying
  12. Hello Just had mot , (corroded subframe not seriously weakened), anyone know how much to replace? Very disappointed , it is quite bad on the welded seams I do live in seaside environment and the car is kept on the road, but still think this is poor.
  13. Thanks Steve, in the end I got the battery replaced,so thanks to the previous advice AG Falco and me getting over reluctantly replacing a battery that in the old days would be perfectly serviceable, so now a lot poorer but the S/S works
  14. No,I think it needs a special charger, the car starts fine, the voltage at the battery when running shows 14.9 volts, when I had the stop start not work before, the advice given was initially what you have suggested. The car was just under 3 years old, they ended up changing the battery monitor on the negative terminal of the battery. I will get a VW specialist to check it over, which is a bit of a waste as I don't like the stop start. It shows no signs of either under or over charging, so I remain confused lol.
  15. One last thing, does the unit on the battery have an effect other than on the stop/start? Thanks
  16. Thanks, well it's charging and starting ok, I'll keep my fingers crossed!
  17. I normally turn it off by the switch anyway, the last time it went the garage charged the battery for 24hrs, checked it, and the start stop didn't work! It turned out to be this battery monitor thing. More concerned whether the charging system is conventional, I can cope without start stop. Thanks
  18. My Citigo is 2016, it had to have the battery monitor, (the gizmo on the earth terminal of the battery),replaced in order for the stop start to work, that was about three years ago. It looks like it's gone again as the stop start doesn't work. In itself that's not a problem for me as I hate stop start. My question is whether the charging system works in a conventional way,is a regulator within the alternator. The battery voltage is 12.4 volts(not running) and 14.9 volts at 2000 rpm, this reading was just after starting. Thanks for looking!
  19. Thanks for that, so if an AGM is replaced by another AGM, nothing world ending happens? Personally I hate the over sophistication (in my opinion) in modern cars. It’s not helped by one book fits all car owner’s manuals. My Greentech version keeps surprising me with what it does.
  20. Saw an earlier thread regarding replacing these batteries and the required coding, does anybody know exactly what effect not coding a new battery is? Assuming the battery is replaced with a battery saver connected to avoid loss of data, what black magic is invited to destroy the car?
