Is there anything in the history about a chain replacement? Also I see your In Macc, I lived in Wilmslow until I was 24 ish
There’s lots of stamps in the history, but unfortunately nothing mentioned about a chain /tensioner/engine replacement, but up to about 80k miles it’s stamped by police workshop, but with little info of what’s actually been done.
yeah I’m in Macc mate .

Do you see on this sticker something like this *CDA 123456* or *RR4 123456*? This cover needs no replacement when changing the chain or tensioner, so there is surely new, factory remanufactured or used engine inside your car
Yeah, the sticker has a CDA number, which may mean that indeed, hopefully a new one was fitted about 2013!

There is a massive thread in the Octavia mk2 section, which I read through last night for the same reasons. The vast majority of failures there seem to be the 2.0 tsi engines in the vrs, not too many mentions of the 1.8....not sure whether that means anything.

Possibly someone's had the chain tensioner replaced.
Always a bonus!

Wow, I’m having this same issue too, initially thought it was a transmission noise until I switched the ac off today and the noise disappeared! Not had a chance to have a proper look at the car yet though.

No reason at all mate
I had a site notification of a direct PM from JJBS3 when I opened the forum site and responded to it in depth with what happened to me. However it the notifications didn't and still dont show of his response to this actual thread.
My old car was AJ10 PBF, white Skoda Scout 1.8 tsi, Black Front Grill, facelift front and rear badges owned for approx 6-7 weeks around Sept 2016.
Last I saw it was up for sale on a Worcester garage forecourt approx October 2016 and currently a certain on line insurance check facility shows it as being insured.
SOrry for not replying publicly, have been away for a few weeks. So it’s not the car that you had, and I’ve just done about 600 miles in the car on motorway. So far I see no appreciable oil loss, so it would appear for now that mine isn’t drinking it.
Interestingly (well maybe) I was rummaging around under the bonnet the other day, and found one of the covers (left hand side of the engine) has a vag sticker (like a factory one) dated 2012, which is 3 years later than the car was built. Not sure if that means anything at all, looking into it.

Very interesting .... might explain how I accurately detailed oil consumption over a few weeks and came up with a reliable figure for consumption and yet1 day in a garage and apparently all was well
Sorry to ask, I have just bought a 09 scout tsi which has spent most of its life in Yorkshire , would you be prepared to tell me the reg of the one you gave back? Only done about 100 miles in mine so far, don’t want it to turn out to be the one you had problems with!
Cheers

Thanks for that, I’ll take a look at the pedal switch tomorrow!

Hi all,
so a good start to my return to Skoda ownership. Picked up my 09 scout on Friday, Saturday morning the epc light came on and lost power. Stopped the engine and restarted, all ok.
This morning, drove about 40 miles and it came back on, didn’t quite go into limp mode, but defo lost significant power.
Plugged in a generic code scanner which gave p0121 Throttle position sensor switch A.
Again, after stopping the engine it reset and managed to get home.
Just had a look under the bonnet, and it looks like the throttle body has been replaced recently.
Gonna be on to the dealer that sold it tomorrow but does anyone have any further thoughts in case they are less than helpful!
Cheers
Dissapointed in Macclesfield.

Hey all, ive been lurking in the background for a couple of years since changing jobs and losing my last VRS, but I’ve just acquired a 2009 Octy Scout with the 1.8tsi engine, so no doubt will be picking peoples brains, but hopefully be able to give back once I’ve learned a bit!

Would still need to get spare wheel and some kind of tool kit as I just found out there is no jack in the car either :(
Jings, I didn't think of that! What a dope.
Cheers for the replies guys

Hey all,
After being stranded at the side of the road after 2 blowouts, I'm looking for a cheap wheel (alloy or steel) to keep as a spare.
It's a company car so I don't want to pay for a new one really, and the company definitely won't. has anyone out there found another wheel from any other marques/ models that will fit, that I may be able to find on a well known auction site?
Cheers for any thoughts.
James

14k miles into having mine, I had no spare budget to get extras, but if I had - the heated front screen would be a definite, a spare wheel, auto-dimming wing mirrors, and that mobile phone signal booster box thing would have been handy.

Hey all, I know this looks like an obvious simple solution, or a stupid question but bare with me -
Vrs tdi had been parked on slight hill for a couple of days (where it always lives) Came out to it yesterday and whilst clearing the snow off the car, the coolant warning came on.
Checked the expansion tank and yes, it was low.
After a short run into town and shopping, no warning came up when I came back to the car.
Has anyone else experience a short term 'migration' of coolant?
Got a longer run today to see what occurs, but will check the level before hand.

Mine is doing that too, can't identify a pattern, or trigger, so can't recreate it - VRS tdi manual.

I think I'm gonna be on a par with thekidfromkensington by the sounds of it - I'm not far off the wear markers on the front, at 10500 miles. (Bridgestone potenzas)

Mine is getting near 9000 miles now, and agree with all the above - revs smoother, feels more alive etc. MPG has gone up from avg 44, to long term 49. Achieved 62 on a 150 mile motorway run last Friday.

Agreed, and sports mode with a diesel DSG takes it to the red line before changing, I end up having to use the paddles to shift up at around 4200rpm as you really feel the torque drop off of a cliff after that.
Before I got my vrs I tried the golf gtd with dsg and found exactly this - intervening and changing up earlier was far more effective than allowing the system to haul it all way to redline before changing.

My experience and opinions are very very similar to this. Came from a BMW 320d before the VRS, and have to day my feelings match. It's quick, comfy, far more practical as a hatch than the 320d was as an estate, and saves me about 100 per month in company car tax - plus still a car that makes you glance back at it when walking away. Winner.

Great looking motor. If it's half as good as the previous scout, it's gonna be awesome!
