  1. HI, I've got an aftermarket VCDS lead. The airbag light's on and we think this may be to do with the seat belt pre-tensioners showing as 'not installed. There are pre-tensioners present for the front ones, so I think I just need to tell the car that they're there. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I don't know much about VCDS, but I think this is probably something someone will know. Hopefully not too hard for me to do myself. The car's a 2001 y-reg Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDi
  2. OKay, I have VCDS lite and have gone to CAN Gateway. Currently coding is 00014 Workshop Code 13765 What do I need to change to tell it no airbags? Any clue if this can be done with VDCS lite? and how do I do it?
  3. Can I recode using a cheapy aftermarket Vag Com lead? That's all i have. I can physically check the pretensioners first, then will try the CAN recode. Think I might just put it up for sale a spares or repair, it's got tax and MoT until August so I'm sure someone will be happy to take it.
  4. Hi, devonutopia popped by to see if he could help turn off my airbag light. After scanning with his full VCDS the airbag controller shows no faults, but still the light remains. This is something he's never come across before so now he's as stumped as me. The one thing VCDS did say is that the front seat belt pre-tensioners were 'not installed', we wondered if this might be a possible cause. Perhaps they weren't replaced when the car was repaired from Cat C in 2003? If anyone has experience of this issue I'd really appreciate your input. Really need to get the car sold. I'm not looking for a huge amount of cash for it anyway, but still don't want to sell something with issues.
  5. Thanks for all the help chaps. devonutopia popped over today and scanned he car with VCDS, sadly he is now as baffled as I. So there's no faults (at least not with the airbag system) yet the light is still on. Maybe I should claim my car is 'unique'? It did show that the front seatbelt pretensioners were not installed, I'll take the trim off and see if there's anything there. He felt maybe that could be an issue, but again no faults shown. I might make a separate thread to see if anyone's come across this issue too. Also gave me some advice on one of the vacuum hoses I might have missed which should solve the boost issues. It was nice to have some help though, so thanks for coming, hope you have a safe journey back home.
  6. Hi Gyp, happy to pay postage both ways if you think it might work. Still getting close to pushing the car into the canal, so from an environmental point of view you'd be saving the planet.
  7. Hey devonutopia, that would be amazing. I'm not far from the M5 Junction 19 Gordano. The car is driveable except for the insurance. I could put a days cover on and meet you at Gordano. If you don't end up passing me I will stick a few days insurance on and drive to Cheltenham to try Gyp's tool. I really want to sell it soon, but I don't want to sell it with this fault. Everything else with the car's now good, except a lack of power at the top end from 3000 rpm. It will get to 90mph, but really slowly. I'm going to see if i can get an N75 valve from Volksmania as I've tried a fair few things, new vac hoses, new MAF, Mr Muscle, swearing and threatening it with a spanner.
  8. Excellent, I seem to recall there being a VCDS user directory on here, I'll see if there's anyone more local that can take a look. I currently have ht ecar taxed and MoT'd but my insurance has switched to the new 4x4 I'm running on Veg oil, so can;t drive it unless I re-insure it.
  9. Well, I have an aftermarket Vag Com lead that uses VCDS lite. That doesn't allow me to code anything I don't think and doesn't give me all the fault codes. I tried resetting it with a Vag Tacho cable, but that didn't work either. the light went out briefly and re-materialised straight after. I don't get any fault codes on the Aiirbag ECU with VCDS though. @Devonutopia - I don't know for sure my old Airbag ECU is dead, but I physically checked the airbags and everything seems to be present. I assume it's holding a crash data, but have no idea how I can find out. I was hoping that, as I have the ECU with same codes it would swap in without coding, but an;t even connet using my vag com cable @ Gyp, where abouts are you based? if the problem's been fixed maybe your tool could reset the light? the c
  10. Anyone nearish Bristol who can help? Maybe with a full version of VCDS or knowledge of the airbag ecu faults?
  11. Hi all, I managed to source another Airbag ECU for my Y-reg Fabia 1.9 TDi Comfort estate. It has the same part code 6q0 909 601 C. I was hoping I could just fit this and the light would go out. No such luck Is there anyone in Bristol, or fairly nearby, who can recode the ECU. I have an aftermarket Vag Com lead, but don't thin VCDS lite will let me code anything. I'm going to tbe selling the Fabia ASAP for £500-600. It's got tax until the end of June and MoT until October. I don't want to sell it with this issue though as it will fail the next MoT without being resolved and I wouldn;t want to sell a car with issues. Any help appreciated.
  12. Right, Replaced the MAF with one from Volksmania, £20. Still no power through the gears, nothing above 3,000 rpm in 4th and nothing in 5th. Struggling more under load or uphill. Anyone know a good canal I can push it into, alternativley anyone in Bristol that might be able to fault find?
  13. Very tempted to give up on this car, get something else and push this one into the local canal. Wanted to get this back into shape and sell it, but I haven't the foggiest what I need to do to sort this out. Is it just the MAF or has some hose let go and where do I find the hoses and leaks? I don't have any vacuum tools.
  14. Ran VCDS Lite with my aftermarket lead and go this: 17964 - Charge Pressure Control: Negative Deviation ( I have recently done the 'Elephant Mod' I also disconnected the vacuum hose to the EDR valve and plugged the tube when trying the diode delete mod on the MAF today) 17552 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs ( I assume that's this VAG Error Code: 17552 EOBD II Error Code: P1144 Fault Location:Mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70), bank 1 - open circuit/short to earth Possible Cause: Wiring open circuit/short to earth.Mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70). I have put a diode in the MAF connectors to see if that would work, maybe that's why I have the code? or this may have been there prior and the MAF's shot 00849 - S-contact at Ignition/Starter Switch (D) 25-00 - Unknown Switch Condition - Not seen this one before, i guess this is just a dodgy connection somewhere on the starter switch and nothing to do with the limp mode. 00898 - Control Circuit A/C compressor 30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent - I did have a really wierd noise using the Aircon last summer, anyone remember summer? Not bothered doing anything about this as, let's face it, summer is such a rare occurance here I didn't see the point.
  15. Ah, i unplugged the MAF and it made no difference, complete lack of power with it plugged in or unplugged. I thought last time with it unplugged there was an improvement in perfomance. I have now put a diode in, as per the diode delete, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference either though, which is a bit of a worry. I was expecting that to sort it out. I also cleaned the EGR valve as it was a little coked up, but nothing major. Will try and get my Vag Com lead working on this laptop and see if there's any new codes. Somewhat concerned as I need to get to Ipswich next Friday morning and I don't think I'll get there in this.
