  1. HI, I've got an aftermarket VCDS lead. The airbag light's on and we think this may be to do with the seat belt pre-tensioners showing as 'not installed. There are pre-tensioners present for the front ones, so I think I just need to tell the car that they're there. Can anyone tell me how to do this? I don't know much about VCDS, but I think this is probably something someone will know. Hopefully not too hard for me to do myself. The car's a 2001 y-reg Skoda Fabia 1.9 TDi
  2. OKay, I have VCDS lite and have gone to CAN Gateway. Currently coding is 00014 Workshop Code 13765 What do I need to change to tell it no airbags? Any clue if this can be done with VDCS lite? and how do I do it?
  3. Can I recode using a cheapy aftermarket Vag Com lead? That's all i have. I can physically check the pretensioners first, then will try the CAN recode. Think I might just put it up for sale a spares or repair, it's got tax and MoT until August so I'm sure someone will be happy to take it.
  4. Hi, devonutopia popped by to see if he could help turn off my airbag light. After scanning with his full VCDS the airbag controller shows no faults, but still the light remains. This is something he's never come across before so now he's as stumped as me. The one thing VCDS did say is that the front seat belt pre-tensioners were 'not installed', we wondered if this might be a possible cause. Perhaps they weren't replaced when the car was repaired from Cat C in 2003? If anyone has experience of this issue I'd really appreciate your input. Really need to get the car sold. I'm not looking for a huge amount of cash for it anyway, but still don't want to sell something with issues.
  5. Thanks for all the help chaps. devonutopia popped over today and scanned he car with VCDS, sadly he is now as baffled as I. So there's no faults (at least not with the airbag system) yet the light is still on. Maybe I should claim my car is 'unique'? It did show that the front seatbelt pretensioners were not installed, I'll take the trim off and see if there's anything there. He felt maybe that could be an issue, but again no faults shown. I might make a separate thread to see if anyone's come across this issue too. Also gave me some advice on one of the vacuum hoses I might have missed which should solve the boost issues. It was nice to have some help though, so thanks for coming, hope you have a safe journey back home.
  6. Hi Gyp, happy to pay postage both ways if you think it might work. Still getting close to pushing the car into the canal, so from an environmental point of view you'd be saving the planet.
  7. Hey devonutopia, that would be amazing. I'm not far from the M5 Junction 19 Gordano. The car is driveable except for the insurance. I could put a days cover on and meet you at Gordano. If you don't end up passing me I will stick a few days insurance on and drive to Cheltenham to try Gyp's tool. I really want to sell it soon, but I don't want to sell it with this fault. Everything else with the car's now good, except a lack of power at the top end from 3000 rpm. It will get to 90mph, but really slowly. I'm going to see if i can get an N75 valve from Volksmania as I've tried a fair few things, new vac hoses, new MAF, Mr Muscle, swearing and threatening it with a spanner.
  8. Excellent, I seem to recall there being a VCDS user directory on here, I'll see if there's anyone more local that can take a look. I currently have ht ecar taxed and MoT'd but my insurance has switched to the new 4x4 I'm running on Veg oil, so can;t drive it unless I re-insure it.
  9. Well, I have an aftermarket Vag Com lead that uses VCDS lite. That doesn't allow me to code anything I don't think and doesn't give me all the fault codes. I tried resetting it with a Vag Tacho cable, but that didn't work either. the light went out briefly and re-materialised straight after. I don't get any fault codes on the Aiirbag ECU with VCDS though. @Devonutopia - I don't know for sure my old Airbag ECU is dead, but I physically checked the airbags and everything seems to be present. I assume it's holding a crash data, but have no idea how I can find out. I was hoping that, as I have the ECU with same codes it would swap in without coding, but an;t even connet using my vag com cable @ Gyp, where abouts are you based? if the problem's been fixed maybe your tool could reset the light? the c
  10. Anyone nearish Bristol who can help? Maybe with a full version of VCDS or knowledge of the airbag ecu faults?
  11. Hi all, I managed to source another Airbag ECU for my Y-reg Fabia 1.9 TDi Comfort estate. It has the same part code 6q0 909 601 C. I was hoping I could just fit this and the light would go out. No such luck Is there anyone in Bristol, or fairly nearby, who can recode the ECU. I have an aftermarket Vag Com lead, but don't thin VCDS lite will let me code anything. I'm going to tbe selling the Fabia ASAP for £500-600. It's got tax until the end of June and MoT until October. I don't want to sell it with this issue though as it will fail the next MoT without being resolved and I wouldn;t want to sell a car with issues. Any help appreciated.
  12. Right, Replaced the MAF with one from Volksmania, £20. Still no power through the gears, nothing above 3,000 rpm in 4th and nothing in 5th. Struggling more under load or uphill. Anyone know a good canal I can push it into, alternativley anyone in Bristol that might be able to fault find?
  13. Very tempted to give up on this car, get something else and push this one into the local canal. Wanted to get this back into shape and sell it, but I haven't the foggiest what I need to do to sort this out. Is it just the MAF or has some hose let go and where do I find the hoses and leaks? I don't have any vacuum tools.
  14. Ran VCDS Lite with my aftermarket lead and go this: 17964 - Charge Pressure Control: Negative Deviation ( I have recently done the 'Elephant Mod' I also disconnected the vacuum hose to the EDR valve and plugged the tube when trying the diode delete mod on the MAF today) 17552 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs ( I assume that's this VAG Error Code: 17552 EOBD II Error Code: P1144 Fault Location:Mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70), bank 1 - open circuit/short to earth Possible Cause: Wiring open circuit/short to earth.Mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70). I have put a diode in the MAF connectors to see if that would work, maybe that's why I have the code? or this may have been there prior and the MAF's shot 00849 - S-contact at Ignition/Starter Switch (D) 25-00 - Unknown Switch Condition - Not seen this one before, i guess this is just a dodgy connection somewhere on the starter switch and nothing to do with the limp mode. 00898 - Control Circuit A/C compressor 30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent - I did have a really wierd noise using the Aircon last summer, anyone remember summer? Not bothered doing anything about this as, let's face it, summer is such a rare occurance here I didn't see the point.
  15. Ah, i unplugged the MAF and it made no difference, complete lack of power with it plugged in or unplugged. I thought last time with it unplugged there was an improvement in perfomance. I have now put a diode in, as per the diode delete, but that doesn't seem to have made any difference either though, which is a bit of a worry. I was expecting that to sort it out. I also cleaned the EGR valve as it was a little coked up, but nothing major. Will try and get my Vag Com lead working on this laptop and see if there's any new codes. Somewhat concerned as I need to get to Ipswich next Friday morning and I don't think I'll get there in this.
  16. Thanks, will wait for a sunny day to do this as I think I need to remove the door carriers and repair the seals, may as well kill two birds with one stone. I wonder when we'll have a sunny day? maybe October
  17. Car seems to have been working fine with the elephant mod, although I think maybe the MAF sensor has failed again. Does anyone have a how to or Is there a link somewhere to doing a basic servo/vac test? do I need some kit to do it?
  18. Hello chaps, I've recently been experiencing a few new issues with the Y-reg Fabia 1.9 TDI. I've noticed that the interior light no-longer comes on when the doors open, the lights warning buzzer doesn't come on either. I checked the fuses and didn't see anything gone there, is there a switch/sensor somewhere that might have failed? and how do i get at it? I've also been experiencing some issues getting the boot to open on the afterarket remote central locking. It's become quite intermittent. Recently I had to charge up the battery as I had been changing lights, went to restart and nothing. I bought a new battery charger, left it on overnight and was able to start, the boot lock also seemed to operate properly after a charge. I've not been doing much mileage recently so perhaps the alternators not had much chance to charge the battery.
  19. Was on my way to Bradford on Wednesday and suffered a loss of power. Couldn't get revs above 2500 and died off uphill. I disconnected the MAF, but this time it made no difference. Is this the MAF failing again, or something else? Maybe someone can link me to a diode Delete Mod to try anyway. I'll try and get my aftermarket Vag Com lead working so I can see if there's any fault codes, then clean out the EGR valve, although last time this didn;t look too bad.
  20. I can't get this chap's website anymore. Anyone know of a decent supplier for parts? I'm after a replacement front anti roll bar for my Y-reg 1.9 Tdi Fabia estate, plus both lower arms with ball joints. I think I might get poly bushes for the bar, console and arm.
  21. Hi all, I took the car into the local garage as I was seeing strange wear on my tyres and getting lots of noise from the suspension. This all started after som eonld lady in a 4x4 tried to squash me and forced me into the kerb. At the time I replaced the smashed steel wheel and nearside console bush, well a friend did most of it. However, it looks like there's more wrong here than I first thought. Trouble is, the car's 12 years old and pretty scruffy. I intended to sell it soon anyway, but need it as a daily driver until I can afford a replacement. After seeing the chaps in the garage they told me that the anti-roll bar has been bent, forcing all the steering geometry out. Now the O/S console bush is damaged, ball joint's gone and anti-roll bar bushes are knackered. They've quoted me £450 for parts and labour to do the following: Replace Anti-roll bar Replace drop links (these were replaced 6 months ago as they thought this was the issue with noise) Replace anti-roll bar bushes Replace console bushes Replace O/S ball joint Now, I can get an entire lower arm for £32 with ball joint, console and front bush, front anti roll bar for £55, and I already have some anti-roll bar bushes. So I was thinking £110 in parts (provided the drop links are okay) and see if there's someone local who's interested in doing the work for a fair price. Does anyone know someone in Bristol that would be interested?
  22. Okay, have done the Elephant mod as I had some washing machine hose kicking about and a rubber ferrule to bung the EGR inlet pipe. Not been for a drive yet to see if there's a noticable difference, but might pop out to get some food. I'll have a look at the hose in question tomorrow now if I get chance, but I won't have the car for too long. Thanks for the reply and the pictures though, helpful to know. Is there a link somewhere to doing a basic servo/vac test? do I need some kit to do it? It's actually going into the garage to get a quote to repair my bent suspension where some old lady tried to ram me off the road in a 4x4 forcing me to hit the Kurb. We replaced the wishbone on one side, but it looks like the offside's damaged too as my tyres wearing on the inside edge and the console bush is knackered.
  23. Hi Guys, I think I may have a brake issues caused by a leak in the vacuum hoses somewhere, so I was having a look today at the hoses and noticed this. I understand this to be the breather hose from the crank case and that some of the oil from here helps to lubricate the turbo. As you can see from the pics the hose is knackered. Not sure it'll actualy do a great deal, but at least it'll stop oil coming out onto the top of the engine. I was looking to just replace all the vacuum hoses with new silicone ones to see if that clears up the brake assist issue. Is there a guide anywhere? I can see me getting the wrong sized hose or missing a section that might have a leak. I've seen this on Ebay and it's listed as being correct for the model and year, any thought? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Silicone-Hose-Pipe-Red-Vacuum-Kit-Silicon-Skoda-Fabia-ID15584-/310729002242?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item4858e44d02 All help and advice appreciated.
  24. Well, I'll keep an eye on it and try to update this when/if it fails.
  25. Hi, Just wanted to say, my Skoda Fabia Mk1 TDi estate was performing really badly. I was coming home from Norfolk and it just decided to stop accelerating, struggled to get up to speed especially up hills etc. I cleaned the EGR valve, but it seemed pretty good, replaced the Air filter and cleaned the MAF sensor. I even did an oil change, but none of this seemed to work. I then did the sensible thing of disconnecting the MAF sensor and bingo, instant increase in performance. I bought a new MAF from an ebay seller, fitted in a few minutes and the car's back to it's old self. I bought it from Taiwan from these guys http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mass-Air-Flow-Sensor-Meter-for-Skoda-VW-1-9L-TDI-DIESEL-0280217121-0280-217-121-/160884604532?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2575783e74 Simple process to change it, disconnect the original from the cable. Unclip the air hose from one side by loosening the spring clip/hoseclamp. Unscrew the housing from the Air box, two screws, mine had star shaped security screws fitted. Pull the old unit away, replace and reverse the earlier steps. I got my item with a couple of days and at less than half the price of a UK supplier.
