NEW Injectors for 1.6 TDI UK Diesel parts?
Tranberg replied to Tranberg's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Thanks for the reply, RetiredDinosaur. Any other opinions? -
Since Autodoc took my money for 4 new 03L130277B injectors, but came back and claimed they are discontinued, I found this https://www.ukdieselparts.com/brand-new-vdo-common-rail-injector-a2c9626040080_p32333857.htm £300 incl VAT Reading the reviews, I can't make my mind up if they are a hit-and-miss operation, or just scammers? Any experiences with them, or maybe a link to a reputable seller of NEW injectors. I have had bad luck with "refurbished" injectors form Dieselfix Neuss, which have excellent ratings on Ebay. The engine was recently replaced with a ~100k miles engine from a wreck standing two years, and after only a few thousand km, an injector failed and was replaced with one of the "refurbished" from the original engine, which failed mechanically. After a few thousand km more, one of the "refurbished" injectors failed again, en route in Poland.

Auto hold vs Hill Hold Control
Tranberg replied to mlwprescott's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
It's a Superb II so it doesn't have it. Trust me, I've had plenty time to try out all features. Now I drive a Mercedes C-class estate, which is quite underwhelming -
Auto hold vs Hill Hold Control
Tranberg replied to mlwprescott's topic in Skoda Superb Mk III (2015 - 2023)
I've recently started as a taxi driver. Which car I drive any given day is up to the whims of the dispatcher. If I'm unlucky, I get one without auto-hold, which results in agony after 11-14 hours of driving in Copenhagen and sitting for 100's of red lights. One of the cars without is a Superb 2,0 TDI 150 DSG 6 with ACC, which is great. Again, driving for 11-14 hours, you want to use your legs as little as possible, as the static pressure is painstaking. Unlike UK, drivers here are not taught to apply the hand brake at each traffic stop, and on the Superb, the creeping is so severe that the hand brake has to be applied hard, and the stupid ECU doesn't realise that I want to stand still. Switching to N or P at every red light defaets the purpose of an auto gearbox -
Lesjöfors replacement springs work great on my H/B http://www.bestpartstore.co.uk/2260996 With a decent jack you can do it in your own driveway in 10 minutes pr. side.

A strip of 25x180 cm of jeans-like fabric was cut up and sewn into 6 small pouches, filled with the contents of a 5 liter bag of silica gel kitty litter and finally sewn shut. Now I have 6 Pingi-like moisture absorbers, for the price of one genuine Pingi 300 gram, only mine are 400 gram. All this came about because I killed one of my 4 Pingi bags, by giving it 7 minutes microwave in one stretch, causing the grill wire rack to melt holes in the bag. Of course my cheap version doesn't have the tell-tale blue dot, which pales as the ability to absorb moisture diminishes. Having so many makes it easy to just swap them before they are used up, and I will simply write the dry weight on each bag so I can weigh how much water they've absorbed.

Lucky you, then.

Well, then I can't imagine that getting the emissions fix carried out will be left to the owner's own decision, since it will be trivial to flag all the involved VIN-numbers in the VOSA system which has not had the fix done, blocking them from passing MOT. I know that this is exactly what they are going to do here in Denmark, where we have MOT every other year, starting from 4 years from the first registration date.
-
Maybe the MOT is only a matter between the car's owner and the garage performing the MOT, with no central database keeping records about the MOT status of any particular vehicle?

24 Hour clock + central locking botton

24 Hour clock + central locking botton
Tranberg replied to Pete001's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
You didn't see my tongue in the cheek. But seriously. I can never remember if AM stands for after midday or PM stands for past midday, so I have to look it up every time. Besides, 12H clocks with green digits remind me of 1980's Japanese cars and any vehicle with a 12H clock digital which can't be changed to 24H screams out "cheap, low quality" to me. I come to think of Sun Maid raisins: "New metric pack: 227 gram" (½ lbs) You do things differently across the Channel. If a German and Dane agree to meet at ½ 4, they mean 3.30 whereas you Brits mean half past 4, 4.30 -

Tranberg replied to Pete001's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I realise that you're never going to drive on the right side of the road, but you've gone metric on most other things, and there now goes 100 Pence to a Pound, so why don't you just adapt the 24-hour clock as well? It's a royal pain in the behind for us Europeans that we have to deal with the logic-ridden AM/PM time system just because we chose English in internet ticket finders, device settings and instruction manuals. -
We have speed trap vans here in Denmark, and apps used by 100 of thousands drivers, who report the speed vans as soon as they park. The most popular is free, but gets a lot of donations, you can check out the real-time map at: https://fartkontrol.nu/ (Fart means speed in Danish) There has even been developed a special device only for the purpose of making it even easier to report and get warned about the speed trap vans. If you get a ticket from one of these traps, you have only yourself to blame for it. Basically, I only have to obey the speed limit where the phone shows me the vans are parked.

EGR blanking - leaving in situ?
Tranberg replied to rw711's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
This kit seams to be made for your purpose: http://www.ebay.de/itm/09-AGR-Ventil-Simulator-VW-Audi-Skoda-Seat-1-6-TDI-CR-CAYA-CAYB-CAYC-/181994497838?hash=item2a5fb7a72e:g:pC0AAOSwX~dWm-Qt It consists of blanking plates and a cheating box, which plugs into the car's harness with three plugs. My own 1.6 TDI had the EGR mapped out together with the tuning remap, but the engine stutters @~1400 RPM when the speed is constant, so I think the EGR is leaking, and I should get a blanking plate fitted. Just fitting the blanking plate will put the car into limp mode. -
Just one more advantage of 195/65-15's on top of them costing half as much as the large tires, as well as lasting half again as long. Made for actual roads, not racing circuits.

1.6 TDI CR FAP (2009) : now with chirp function...?
Tranberg replied to RJVB's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I wouldn't use the term "FAP" on an English site. -
The factory doesn't say anything about age interval, it's only the importers in the various countries generating revenue for the authorized workshops. 210.000 km for the Common Rail diesel engines.
-
Especially after a remap the 1.6 TDI acts like a petrol engine, but I still miss the bottom end grunt of my old 1.9 PD TDI, but not its tractor-like noise.

VRS - Petrol or Diesel for small commute
Tranberg replied to Hudson01's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Get a 1.2 TSI 105 HP which you can remap later if you wish. The engine is rock solid and doesn't say a thing. The turbo gives it a good bottom end pull, despite the tiny engine size. With a lighter engine, it's faster round tight bends. Insurance is possibly cheaper as well, it is here in Denmark. You will never get a chance to use the VRS' punch sensibly in you short commute -
Rear Suspension uplift
Tranberg replied to Eyesonstalks's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I had 2 sets of MAD-springs on my Fabia, the first broke after 4 years. The mechanic said he had changed several sets of the blue MAD-springs, so I went for Lesjöfors this time. The blue MAD springs required paperwork to get through the equivalent of MOT, the black Lesjöfors springs won't catch the MOT inspectors' attention. They're cheaper as well.
