I started a wheel refurbishment business 6 years ago. Started out doing mobile repairs, As someone has already mentioned with a mobile service the key to a good repair is prep work. However you will find that this type of repair will chip easily. We use Powder coat primers, wet paint for the base coat and finally an acrylic powder coat lacquer. This will give the most durable and longer lasting finish. Hope this expalins the difference. Please don't tar us all with the same brush, I have been doing wheel refurbs for 5 years, I don't do touch ups, I use 2k primers, quality paints and most importantly a quality lacquer. I spent ££££'s building a van that provides an enclosed spray booth, oven and filtration for the fumes/overspray, air dryers and filters to ensure I have clean dry compressed air to spray with. The smart repairers that work out of small vans are the touch up kings. My website has a list of questions you should ask to determine whether you're going to get a touch up merchant or someone who knows how to do a quality long lasting repair. I agree that some wheels are better off having a full refurb done, most of the cars I work on are under 3 years old and dont need a full refurb , If I feel that a wheel would be better off having a full refurb I will explain this to the customer, If the customer insists on a mobile repair then I decline the work as my long term reputation is more important than doing my best and not achieving the high standards I set. I hope this has cleared up the difference between a smart repairer and an Alloy wheel refurbishment service.

depending on where you are based you could try Spit and Polish in Tonbridge, BJV engineering in Hemel, Pristine wheels in Woburn and the wheel specialist who have various locations. You will find that these outfits will only give a 6 month warranty on diamond cut wheels. The problem with diamond cut wheels is getting the lacquer to adhere to a shiny unkeyed surface. If i were you I would look at getting the wheels stripped and then powder coated this type of repair will last a lot longer. I always recommend this to all my customers who have diamond cut wheels. To date I have had no comebacks.

I refurb wheels for a living http://www.mintalloys.co.uk/ Depending on the age and style of wheel it will either be Deutsche silver or sports 1, don't forget that if you go down to bare alloy you'll need an etch primer. If its sports one you will need to do a base coat of very fine first as sports 1 doesn't cover very well. To be honest don't bother with the aerosols from halfords etc You'd be better off getting them done professionally trust me I have seen so many wheels that have been diy'd and they look awful not because the owner has done a bad job its just the products used.

Well It finally arrived , very pleased with it, SO glad I went the petrol route

Phoned Skoda Uk, told the offer was for swapping customers out of Diesel and into petrol's (as posted above). Explained that I felt I was now paying a £1000 to much for my petrol car and was not best pleased. The response was still No, you wont get the £1000.

I ordered my pertrol Vrs back in August, will be picking it up on Friday. Will have to try and see if I can get the extra £1000.

Ordered Our Petrol VRS back in Aug, was given a build date of week 46, then week 49, have just been told its now week 1. Thinking of cancelling my order, Think I could deal with the long wait if I was buying a Porsche but not a Skoda.

Ordered our 20T VRS on Saturday, Just been told its scheduled build date is week 47.

Drove a DSG today and didnt like it so went for the manual.
