  1. As a fellow vrs owner I can’t think of anything worse than black smoke it’s embarrassing and most people just see a crappy old Skoda when they do it. putti g a exhaust on to change the tone I can see the appeal slightly but I’d be aiming for minimal smoke personally lol
  2. Where do you live ? Near the sea? I’ve got a 54 plate and had just a small blister which I’ve repaired other than that nothing I’m in the midlands a lot of country driving but wash it every week
  3. No it’s part of the pipe if I remember correctly but some cars have a Schrader type valve which can. But even still the refrigerant would need removing by a professional as it’s high pressure and illegal to release into the atmosphere as it’s so damaging to the environment and your health it can cause frostbite along with other things.
  4. No getting around the fact they are getting old but less tech is less to go wrong. im in the fortunate position that I’m a vehicle tec so repairs to the old girl are free😊 But like you say doesn’t sound that practical where you live. I’m in the country side so 12 mile drive to work is all it does this is our 2nd car as we have another car for weekend use etc. Misses hates the skoda jerky and old she says with some other words.
  5. If you take it a local garage they can do a sniff test to confirm it’s the head gasket or buy one yourself cheap enough and easy to use
  6. That’s brilliant thanks. would you say the the 1.2 had more drivability? id defiantly want the110bhp I had the mk2 which was the 85 as nice as it was to slow.
  7. Yes fully aware of that, you can’t beat the torque of the vrs especially as it’s mapped that’s one thing you always miss🤣 we have a focus estate as the main car it’s only a 1.5 tdci very nice to drive but always catches me out when you want to overtake , you really miss that punch lol
  8. I like my Skodas tbh lol. people on the fabia vrs page think there problematic I’ve never had an issue as I have the advantage of working in a workshop and can regularly check it over easily on a ramp.. will defiantly update on what I think once I’ve test driven both
  9. Thanks for the replies I should have possibly said I’m a vehicle tec for an independent ford dealer , so familiar with the differences etc of engines etc. Not particularly clued up these mk3 fabia engines tho to be honest. I was more after input of anyone who may of driven both and thoughts on them. Like I said I feel the 1.2 might possibly be better suited but some of these 3 pots drive quite nice. I’ve driven the seat Ibiza on a 20 plate which has the 1l in it and that felt quite smooth and a nice power delivery. The puma which was mentioned that will be the new generation of ecoboost is far improved version of the first generation , a lot smoother and more refined. I’ve actually just bought a fiesta which needed a new engine ecoboost engine on a 17 plate all though they get a bad rep if there serviced regularly and the correct oil grade and spec used they actually are good engines. The vehicles we sell we’ve seen over 160 k and no issues the ones we have trouble with are missed services etc like the one I just bought. I will try test drive the fabias to see how feel about them . I liked my mk 2 Monte but they’re just silly money for the age and mileage. cheers
  10. I spent ages looking for mine I did own one in black which I sold after putting 100 k on it and instantly regretted it,then I spent ages trying find a standard decent on , in the end found this guy owned from new garages all it life and did less than 3k a year in it . Not the best colour but still like it.
  11. I have a vrs and have done for over 12 years, when I bought it everyone took the **** out of me saying I was buying an old man’s car…. Because only old men drove Skodas now it seems in recent years they have become clapped out bangers for chavs as they’re relatively cheap to make them quick. I still own my fabia completely standard other than a remap and it’s in outstanding condition . Don’t see many decent ones about tbh
  12. Some daz washing powder is the best stuff to clean the cooling system. are you sure it isn’t airlocked? head gasket would have it overheating and a lot of pressure in the cooling system , Also while the coolant cap is removed rev it quite hard if coolant spills out the expansion bottle that’s a sure sign the head gasket has gone
  13. Any work on the A/c system needs to be carried out by a qualified person so you need to go to avA/c specialist.
  14. Evening all looking to upgrade my current mk1 vrs tdi to the mk3 Monte and after some input please. Can anybody offer any advice between the 1.2 tsi or the 1l tsi both 110 bhp? I’m swaying towards the 1.2 as it’s a 4 cylinder. I did own the mk2 Monte 1.2 tsi which is a different engine to the mk3 but found that very smooth and decent on fuel. Any input would be greatly appreciated looking around a 2016/2017 plate thanks
  15. Evening all. Another remap question ..... but rather than asking where and how much bhp im looking at it from another angle. After many years of considering it then things getting in the way ive never got around to it! Well ive decided go for it... so rang around and had 2-3 tuners say out of 10 say they wont do it due to its age and milage. The car is a 54 plate with113k of which when i bought this 2 years ago the old bloke i bought it of owned it from new and was garaged with 93k on the clock so is actually low miles to a degree. Now i have 16 years of experience as a tec but no experience in remapping. The ones who wouldnt remap it said due to its age of the car and it sitting for so long at a given pressure then to increase it will cause the turbo to fail and injector seals fail. I see where they are coming from but at the same time a turbo can fail on a car which is only say 10 years old. The car drives mint etc etc my question is would people remap the car in question considering its age? I remember watching a top gear where they did a episode on the old f1 cars they used blocks from road cars which had already done 100k Saying they had done that many hot cold cycles etc if there was a fault it would have shown up by now rather than a brand new block been used as the fatigue had already taken place. Alot state 175hp but id rather sit at 160hp. The car is just used as our run around as we have another car. I use it go work and take the dogs out etc so wouldnt be thrashed to death lol. Its currently sitting at 54mpg lol🤣 Anyway be interested in peoples thoughts.
  16. Hi ive recently bought a polo from the garage where i work at with a few issues. Firstly it failed the emissions on the mot. second it started misfiring at idle but intermittent. Did compression all were ok so i assumed the valves were ok. i removed the head to fit a headgasket as it had failed and was shocked to see how bad these valves were. If you zoom in they are the worst ive seen considering it ran not to bad tbh. Replaced the valves and the valve guides. Apparently its the guides which cause the issue. Anyway doesnt really help you checking yours but just shows how poor they are. passed the emissions straight away after!
