  1. Thanks for the update, sounds like the same problem on my son's car. Will be investigating this weekend. Did you need to drill rivets to get to the regulator?
  2. I had the judder changing from 1st to 2nd on a 7 speed DSG on a 1.4 TSi, lucklily this was confirmed by my dealer a week before the warranty expired, and the clutch pack was replaced under warranty. Mileage at that point was 50,000. The replacement had no issues in 2 years and 36,00 miles since fitment, I have now sold the car. I thought this was only an issue on the 7speed dry clutch gearboxes, which were on the lower powered petrol models only ( was it a 170bhp limit?). At the time of replacement there was a delay in obtaining parts, I was told that was due to the number of Audi warranty issues on the same gearbox. The replacement clutch pack was said to be an improved design, however I've decided on my new car (Audi A3 saloon 1.4 TFSi) to go for a manual gearbox, as I plan to keep this car for five years and have concerns over the long term reliability of the DSG box.
  3. Thanks Mikey and Jon for your feedback. I have also listed on ebay at the same price. A couple of watchers but no offers or inquiries yet. New car coming on 1st March so I can wait a while.
  4. No interest yet, is it the mileage, or am I pricing it too high?
  5. Thanks, it does look good in the sun, when we get some! It's the 7 speed dry clutch DSG, the clutch pack was replaced under warranty at 50,000 miles because I noticed an occasional judder changing from 1st to 2nd. Been great since, and apparently the replacement clutch pack was an improved spec. Forgot to mention that it has reversing sensors. and that it had a full set of new discs and pads last March.
  6. 2010 Octavia 1.4 TSI DSG Metallic blue. Fitted with Westfalia removable towbar and electrics (used for cycle rack only). Full Noise Killer sound deadening kit factory fitted by Noise Killer. Full Skoda service history. 85,000 miles 13 months MOT (expires 1st March 2016) 2 owners - I bough this as an ex demonstrator at 6 months old. This car is in excellent condition inside and out, and has been well cared for. Most of the mileage has been motorway miles for work.
  7. Set of four used Castle wheel trims from an Octavia. One has light kerbing damage covered with silver touch-up paint, others are all in perfect condition. All the mounting tabs are undamaged. Would like £25 on collection please, from Witney , Oxfordshire, or can post at cost.
  8. Wheels have been used for three winters for 3-4 months each winter. There is some light corrosion but nothing serious, stored in a dry garage for the rest of the year. The tyres are Firestone Winterhawk and are size 195/65R15 95T. Two tyres have 6mm tread, the others 6.36 and 6.6mm. All are in good condition with even wear, no cuts, damage, or repairs. Collect from Witney, Oxfordshire please. Would like £165 for the wheels and tyres. I'm also selling some Skoda Castle wheel trims listed seperately for£25, if bought with the tyres I'd take £180 for both.
  9. Be careful, it's not just the diameter. I checked with Euro Car Parts measured by front discs at 280mm, and bought 104440728 Pagid 53954 - which don't fit my 2010 1.4 TSI. Pads were correct, but I'm off to the nearest EuroCarParts store which is an hours drive away with one of the old discs to match.
  10. Very frustrating, left my car at the dealer for two nights, both mornings they said it started immediately with no problems. Nothing showing up on diagnostics so they can't trace a fault. It's been problematic for me the previous five days, both when in the garage overnight, and when I've come back to it from work in the station car park. My car also has a DSG gearbox with the occasional judder in 2nd gear which I've seen other people write about, but they can't detcect that either. My concern is that car runs out of warranty in two months, so if there are problems I want them fixed before then.
  11. Malcburt, my car has just developed exactly the same problem. A few days ago it started on 2-3 cylinders for a few seconds then cleared after giving it a little throttle. I thought it was probably just damp, and was going to spray some WD40 on the plug leads, but I couldn't find any! This morning it started immediately but again on 2-3 cylinders, sat there spluttering for a minute or so, with the orange engine warning light on, and wouldn't respond to the accelerator pedal at all, then stopped. Apparently there was black smoke from the exhaust and a smell of fuel. It then wouldn't start agin. Left it for 15 minutes and it did then start, misfiring, but responded to the accelerator then was OK. After a long day in a cold and wet station car park in again took a couple of goes to start and run properly. Tomorrow I have a 6am start to drive from Oxford to Manchester, so I've left a heater on overnight in the garage hoping that will help. I can't get to a dealer until Friday at the earliest, so I hope it behaves until then. I'll let you know what they find.
  12. Anyone looking for winter wheels and tyres these are a good deal ebay winter tyres I picked up a set from the guy this morning, they are exactly as described, genuine VW steel wheels and Winterhawk tyres, he's imported them from Poland. I know he'll take offers £20-£30 below the buy it now price (£349).
  13. What about fitting different size tyres to your original rims? My Octavia SE has 205/60 15 tyres as standard, but I can get 195/65 15 winter tyres much cheaper. That's the same size that Skoda would fit to an S spec Octavia, I believe on the same size rim. Any views on wheteher that constitutes a mod, or is it manufactures spec, albeit for a different trim level of the same car? What happened to the old pinned thread on winter tyres, I wanted to check the steel wheel offset and bolt diameter?
  14. It's quite easy to remove the cover, prise it out with a credit card or a trim removal tool. I found it easiest to start at the top near the front (towards the door hinge). To get to the capacitor you'll have to remove the torx screw, then there are two clips at the leading edge and at the top near the leading edge that you need to prise up slightly - in place they are wedged tight behind the inside edge of the door card. Then pull out the panel with the tweeter and the door pull. I picked up instructions here: http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/107056-octavia-ii-poor-sounding-stereo-fix/page__st__40 In my picture at the end of the thread you can see the two clips you need to watch out for.
  15. I'm getting about 40mpg avearge, mix of short local trips, longer a/b road trips around 20 miles. and motorway runs. On a steady motorway journey it gets up to mid 40's.
  16. I had a full Noisekiller kit fiited to my facelift Octavia at the factory in Manchester a couple of months ago. The full kit includes sound deadening material under the carpets, rear seat, rear wheel arches, spare wheel well, boot floor, under boot carpet, and under the bonnet. They won't take the door cards off, but gave me some panels of self adhesive deadening material which I fitted to the outer and inner panels of the door when I changed the spaekers. Made a very noticeable difference, I found it worthwhile and reasonable value.
  17. I wasn't planning to buy an auto, had a test drive in a 1.4TSI DSG as I wanted to see if the 1.4 would be powerful enough, and that was all that was available as a demonstrator. Was really impressed by the combination so that's what I bought. The DSG gearbox has been fantastic so far, with almost imperceptible gear changes, and the economy is fantastic. It does sometimes want to change into 7th a little too early though, also very occasionally notice a lag when I've slowed down for a junction or roundabout, but it's improved. Not sure whether that's the gearbox's fuzzy logic, or me adapting to the best way to drive it. Disagree with comments about it being good in snow though. It's fine once you've got moving, but pulling away from a standstill is dodgy if there is even a slight gradient or slightly deeper snow, I got stuck a couple of times last night trying to cross juctions in about 4" of snow, and today in a car park on a very slight slope, just wouldn't get traction now matter how careful I was, had to reverse out in the end. Previous car was a Focus and that was much easier to drive in the snow earlier this year. Even the Mazda RX8 I had before that was easier in the snow.
  18. Thanks, I'll get it checked, the code on the service log and on the label in the boot says it set for variable.
  19. I fitted the Dolphin sensors, work really well. I was having a tow bar fitted so while they had the bumper off I drilled the holes for the sensors, fitted them, and then finished off the wiring later. Colour match was pretty good too.
  20. Mine is 9 months old, has done 8,700 miles, and has just come up with the spanner symbol saying 600 miles until service is due. I thought I'd been driving carefully, with a fair mix of short and long journeys, but then I've only owned it for about 10 weeks. It was an ex demonstarator, must have had a hard life.
  21. Haven't had my washers freeze up yet, but I do have a prblem getting the screen completely clean. I've tried adjusting the jets in various positions, and have replace the nearside one as I thought it might be partially blocked, but it's not made much difference. The drivers side is OK, but there's a patch in the bottom middle of the windscreen that never seems to get enough fluid, and is always smeary. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm thinking of fitting a third washer jet in the middle of the scuttle.
