Swapping reversing light bulb for a brighter one.
Thanks for the further advice. In the past (admittedly the distant past) I religiously fitted a fog light to the rear of Anglias / Cortina /Corsair etc - but that was when car wiring was a little easier to fiddle with and it was quite the done thing to accesorize your car with such things. It probably wasn't legal then, I honestly can't remember ... but I was never stopped and told off for it. As it happens there are PIR lights installed but, on occasion, especially in the wet when there's rain on the mirrors and windows, I sometimes wish I had a bit more light immediately behind the car. I have cats that I fear might commit suicide there and I did, quite recently , run over a hedgehog on the driveway (but I admit a brighter reversing light wouldn't have helped there as the poor creature had decided to curl up in fron of a rear tyre and I pulled away without seeing it.) But, in all honesty, we've deviated somewhat ... I just wondered if a simple change of bulb is a practical, easy and straightforward job.

not to mention ... I imagine if such a work light was installed, I'd have top prepare some sort of explanation to offer to the copper whe decided to stop me to check there was a warning light fitted to the the dash to indicate the reversing light was on.

.... and I forgot to mention, find an appropriate switch for the dash and then rip the dasg apart in order to fit it .....

That's hardly ideal for someone who just wants a bit more more light as they reverse into their driveway - how many people are gonna want to (a) find a lamp that doesn't look awful stuck on the back of their car,(b) drill holes, (c) fit mounting brackets and (d) instal a decent wiring circuit (assuming the CANBUS allows them to)?

Does one of those have the same fitting ?

I realise the wattage is governed by rules. But the actual light output isn't quoted in the regs to the best of my understanding. So is there a simple one for one swap that allows an LED bulb to be fitted without upsetting CANBUS?

DSG Gearbox
OK, I should have been more specific - by "They" I had VAG particularly in mind.

DSG Gearbox
Such a shame they had all that trouble with DSG (and Ford with theirs). Speaking purely personally I think they drive really nicely. I have a Hyundai as well and that has a torque converter box which is also fine but I'm just as happy driving the Yeti as the Hyundai. In fact happier as a 1200cc 2011 Hyundai i10 is no ball of fire).

The trouble is (or was at the time I bought the Yeti) - if you wanted a 1200cc petrol you didn't get a choice of DSG ... it was a DQ200 or nothing. I honestly don't know what incarnation of DSG they fit in petrol Skodas now, if I bought new it would be covered by warranty for the first 3+2 years and I suppose I'd worry about the years after that when the time came.

DSG Gearbox
I suppose I have to say mine had a new clutch pack in November 2013 at mileage 11,045 (due to clutch judder) - under warranty - plus. in October 2014 it had a change of oil and software reset at mileage 15,46. All under warranty It hadn't been abused. Whether I ever buy another DSG isn't set in stone - if I did I would definitely take out the extra two years warranty from new. I think it more likely I'd get a Toyota or Kia (and hope I was lucky).

Our Yeti died.
Just as a matter of interest, is it thought that the charger in the link below would be considered smart enough for the task in hand as detailed in the above topic? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009A83P1E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I bought one and have been using it during the pandemic and have to say it's been functioning fine. There's another make (can't remember just at the moment) which everyone says is the bees knees but which costs four times as much. I did look into getting one of those but finished up getting two of the ones in the link. One is in use and the other boxed away as a sort of spare (at £20 a go it seemed rude not to) ... but the main reason for getting two was I can use the connector lead (that's included in the box) for my second car - it connects to the battery terminals and allows you to connect the charger to the battery by means of a very simple push connector which is simplicity itself to use.

Yeti heater not working correctly.
I'll have a closer look. I wonder why the settings would deviate from from they wee originally set to though? I'm thinking something like the battery going flat and it losing it's manufacturer settings? I do know that once the battery did go flat (due to my leaving the lights on) and the trip mileage reset to zero - so presumably there could be other settings that get lost when the voltage drops too low?

You're right, it's a different thing. But I'm not sure what I would re-set the temperatures to ....

That was suggested above and, unfortunately, it didn't work.

I hope that wouldn't be seen as an imposition - or, to put it another way, taking the **** (insert an apropriate word).

Just noticed there's a company in Exmouth as follows :- Devon Vag-Com VCDS services Automotive consultant in Exmouth, Devon Any connection??

Yeti heater not working correctly.
Ta for that - appreciated. devonutopia is only half an hour from me. I'm not far from Newton Abbot and he's in Exmouth, which I know quite well. I don't know how someone such as he operates though ... I'm guessing if he would agree to use his equipment then we come to some agreement about recompense for his time and expertise? Would he and his equipment be able to pinpoint such a thing with VCDS? (I'm not familiar with it despite hearing folk speak about it here). I think I'd be interested to know if replacement of one (or more) of these temperature sensors involved pulling the dash out. As mentioned before I really don't fancy that. Maybe I'm over estimating the problem?

^^^^ Yes, my thoughts exactly :-)

He's not a VAG specialist. He does all/most makes and used to specialise in French makes.

Yeti heater not working correctly.
That's something I don't know without asking - and if I DO ask is he going to give me an honest answer? I'm in the hands of others and at their mercy. No matter how much you value your independent garage you're never 100% sure you're doing the right thing ... letting him loose on something so vague and indeterminate sounds like a recipe for big bills that might not be a good idea.. I Googled Snap On multi marque and drew a complete blank.

In view of the fact that it works when the engine is fully warmed up, and if I turn it right up to MAX, then maybe I should just put up with it. Like I say it's a 9 year old car and you start to wonder if you should spend too much on it.
