  1. Congratulations on getting your money's worth out of the originals! Also, credit to you for buying some really decent replacements, they will serve you well, and you'll find the difference very noticeable once they're fitted! To answer your question, I would say yes, at that mileage it's worth replacing the top mounts at the very least. I'd be getting the mechanic to check the other joints too whilst he was there - lower arm bushes, anti-rollbar bushes etc. I bet they're all looking a bit tired!
  2. This issue, and combined with the fact that I don't believe in DRLs (frankly, if you can't see a vehicle approaching in daylight without DRLs - then you shouldn't have a driving licence...) meant that as soon as I got my 2014 VRS, I turned the DRLs off via the in-car menu. Now, they only come on at night, which means they are going to last a lot longer! Car is 6 years old now, no signs of any problems. This is also why I never leave the lamps in the 'AUTO' position either - those xenons coming on and off all day whenever I drive under trees or through tunnels can't help their longevity either. I believe this is the best way to manage a problem that we've been provided with on new cars!
  3. Yes, going my my experience it's just a failed HID bulb. They are simple to replace yourself - don't believe the hype that it's a main dealer only job. One of mine failed last year, going the same way as yours - the original bulb on a 2014 car, so not bad. I figured that the other side was probably going to go the same way, so I bought a new pair from Halfords, their own brand ones. Was £120 the pair with my trade card discount. Then all I did was remove the covers on the backs of the lamp units, unplug the connector, twist the old bulb out and pop the new ones in. All done with the ignition switched off. Once fitted, they both worked perfectly straight away with no fault codes, and have been perfect ever since. Hope this helps!
  4. Had my Mum in my VRS yesterday, we went to the odd shop. Whilst driving home, there was something rattling a good 'un over at her side. I said 'dig around in the door pocket can you, something in there is making an awful noise. She goes digging round - noise still there. After a while and my increasing annoyance, I had the poor old woman extract everything from the pocket - she was sitting there with a lap full of random stuff. Noise still there. In the end it was driving me so mad, I had to stop the car. It took a good 10 minutes of frustration before I realised that she hadn't QUITE wound her window up into the frame, although there was no gap to show it. She got the hump with me for being so dramatic and we had a grumpy ride home sorry Ma!
  5. This is normal behaviour for the adaptive headlamps. At low speeds (under 50kph if I remember) or in poor weather, the right-hand lamp will swivel to the right as far as it can go. This is apparently to illuminate the edge of the road on the right hand side. I think it is called 'city mode'. When you speed up, you will find that the lamp will slowly swivel back to the straight-ahead position. If you don't like it, a quick fix is to turn the headlamp switch inside the car all the way to 'ON'. When the lights are not in auto mode, they remain at a fixed frontal position and do not move. Hops this helps!
  6. Oh bum, and there's me thinking I was helping haha!
  7. Was looking at the Skoda Owners Facebook page today, and a member Mike Holroyd seems to have finally sorted the issue with the dipping passenger mirror. I know other members on here have struggled to get this coding to work on their Octavias, so I thought I would post this, if it helps. Credit: Mike Holroyd "Passenger mirror dip in reverse - Octy 3 (MQB) Had a play with VCDS on the Leon this afternoon (same as the Octy3) and finally managed to get the reverse gear passenger door mirror dip to work after months of trying. Yes I know it's been sorted on a Seat, but I'm putting this on here as I have seen folks asking on here too as to why it isn't working on their Octy 3. Found a bit of info on an Audi forum, and everything now working perfectly As well as the well documented changes to the 09 Central Electronics module (access code 31347), there is a further setting in 52 Passenger door electronics - it appears that switching on the mirror dip in central electronics can also switch on the "memory mirror with memory seats" option in the door controller, and with no memory seats fitted, if that is ticked, the dipping function won't work. This setting is not documented anywhere I could find! So the complete coding for activating the mirror dip is: Controller 09 - Central Electronics 16 - Security Access - enter 31347 10 - Adaptation (15)-Access control 2-Spiegelabsenkung bei Rueckwaertsfahrt - change to active (this switches function on) (20)-Access control 2-Menuesteuerung Spiegelabsenkung - change to active (this switches on an extra entry on the mirror option in the settings menu in the infotainment screen) Controller 52 - Passenger door electronics Long coding -> Function 07 (no access code needed) Byte 04 DEACTIVATE bit 1 Mirror memory function (with memory seats) installed/active (NOT TICKED - if it is ticked, it will not work) Activate bit 2 Reverse gear mirror dipping active (TICKED) Activate bit 3 Position memory for Reverse Gear Mirror Dipping active (TICKED) Close controller, unplug VCDS, switch off ignition, lock car, unlock it again and switch ignition back on to reboot. This coding will be exactly the same on the Octy 3 - hope it helps someone out Remember, the mirror adjustment switch needs to have the left mirror selected for this to work."
  8. Sweet, glad that it sounds like it's sorted for you!
  9. Hiya. Watched the video - wow, that is a strange one, as you say, it's like a door slamming! For what it's worth, regardless of everyone discussing resets and the climate control doing things because of this and that - my Mk.3 Octy VRS (which I have owned for 6 years) has never done anything like that. Once I select LO and max fan with the aircon on, it blows freezing air into my face for hours on end, and never clunks or changes the flow. So for me, that's a fault which needs rectifying. I hope it's not a dash out job... Good luck and let us know how you get on.
  10. As per the title really. I have occasionally seen nice Mk. 1 VRS's at dealers for around three thousand, but this is the first time in ages that I've seen one for four. Admittedly it does look nice, but isn't particularly low mileage or pristine. So, are prices finally on the rise? I see many being broken for spares on the Facebook page, so it may well be that the days of cheap ones are numbered. What do you think?
