  1. We're looking to install a dash cam and thought great this thread will really help. However, our fuse no 48 only has a contact at the top and not the bottom of the fuse slot so it doesn't work. It's a 2016 SE Business estate. My husband has gone through the fuses and most of them seem to be live with the ignition off. We've tried the rear wiper fuse but the dash cam will only work if the wiper is being used. Does anyone have any other suggestions please?
  2. It's a year since we brought our Superb( mk 3 16 reg) and it's saying it needs an inspection service. My husband is capable of checking fluids, tyres ect. Is there anyway of resetting it so we don't have it telling us the service is due everytime we get in and out the car? Guessing it will need connecting up to PC to do this?
  3. My husband services our 2002 1.9TDI 130 BHP Superb every year after a garage put the wrong oil in it many years ago. You can imagine how popular we were on an August bank holiday on the A1 towing a caravan with no turbo as it was blocked!! Since this incident we have always used Halfords own 5W/30 VW Audi oil and have had no problems. Reading through the forums on here, and correct me if I'm wrong, I understand that the 5W/30 is for variable servicing and the 5W/40 is for fixed. Even though our car is on a variable service, it is always serviced once a year after about 10K miles. Do we stick with what we know or change oil? I notice that Tesco now sell oil that meets with the same spec as Halfords and is slightly cheaper. Has anyone used this? We've always used oil that meets with VW 504.00/507.00. Tesco meets this as well as ACEA C3. Some websites have recommended Castrol Magnatec C3 5W/30 which meets VW 502.00/ 505.00. To be honest I've not a clue what the difference is between these VW numbers! Obviously we can do without the problem we had before. I was just wondering what other members would recommend? Perhaps it's just a case of sticking with what we know! Thanks in advance
  4. Ok thanks for your reply rotodiesel. We will have a look at that too. Other then feeling gritty, the clutch seems fine.
  5. I've searched through other forum posts & can't find anything similar to this. Sorry if it has been posted before. We have a 52 reg 1.9 tdi 130 bhp Superb. It's done 130180 miles. Tows a caravan about 5-6 times a year, including up to Scotland & back once a year. Over the past few weeks the clutch pedal feels rough when it's depressed to change gear. The clutch isn't slipping. Sometimes it's almost like metal on metal if that makes sense? We are thinking that the clutch & dual mass flywheel are due for a change. Know this is an expensive job! Given that we've owned the car for aprox the last 10 years & neither have been changed. Was just wondering if there could be another explanation to it? I know the car is old & in an ideal world we should be looking at replacing it. Unfortunately funds won't stretch that far at the moment. Have got a bit stashed to one side to cover this job. It hasn't given us too much trouble compared with other cars we've owned.
  6. The battery has been working fine on our car up until last weekend. Hubby spent the day upgrading headlight bulbs & fitting LED Daytime driving lamps( other road users can't see us!!). During the course of this, doors were left open & radio on. When it came to starting up to check that the lights worked, the battery was as dead as a dodo. We tried jump starting & it didn't want to know. After several attempts of this, I called out RAC. He managed to use his power pack on it & it started first time. We have been warned that the battery could die completely in the next few weeks. We have started to shop around but have come across a couple of problems. 1) the size of battery. There doesn't appear to be much lee way for a bigger battery. 2) the amps. Our local dealer has informed us that we must have a battery with at least 80amps to start our big engine. I've found 1 on line which has a 4 year warranty & is 88 amps which I thought would be ideal but it's 354mm long & our current 1 is only 310mm. Has any one else had any similar problems with the size of a replacement battery? Any makes that you would recommend? The dealer has quoted just under £135 for 1 with a 3 year warranty. Many thanks in advance for any help received!
  7. Just to let you know, the problem was caused by the air con wire rubbing. The cam belt was replaced at our local dealer & the wires for the air con unit were not put back properly. So a few days later the wires had moved & were rubbing on 1 of the belts. Hence while stationary everything worked fine. As soon as the car moved, with air con on, it shortened out & blew the fuse. All discovered by the very helpful & friendly RAC man.
  8. The fuse had blown(listed wrongly in box) so was changed worked ok. Went out today got just a few 100 yds down road & the same thing has happened again. There must be something that is causing the fuse to blow. Does any one have any ideas please? Would like to fix ourselves rather then paying garage costs. Many thanks
  9. Hi, We have a Mk 1 Superb 1.9tdi 52 reg. Driving back home today & suddenly the speedo & rev counter are at 0. The fuel gauge & temp gauge are also at empty/cold & there is no display on the heater controls. We've checked the fuse in the fuse box which is ok. As we've discovered before though, there are other fuses hidden!! Does anyone have any ideas if there are any more fuses lurking else where? Or is it something more serious/ expensive we have to worry about. It had it's cambelt changed Monday & a new front coil yesterday (n/s). I can't think that either of these could be related to this?!!! Any help would be appreciated! We are due to drive to Cornwall Friday so we would like this sorted asap!!! Many thanks.
  10. Ours was changed nearly 4 years ago just under 60K. Due for another change very soon. Have been told by Skoda dealer that they recomend the water pump is changed too. Car has done just over 100K. Hasn't been changed while we've had it( 8 years). Are there any know problems with these pumps? Part of me is thinking for the sake of an extra £70 to have it done too. Last time belt was changed it wasn't at a Skoda dealer. After ringing round lots of garages for quotes, only a few knew that the job involved taking the front end off!! It's a 1.9tdi 52 plate.
  11. Thanks for your reply. The adjustment switch in the car is working fine. Have found the screw on the back of the headlight which appears to have fallen to bits!! It'll happily make it lower but not higher!! :S :S Hubby is going to have a look tomorrow in daylight. Thanks again
  12. Hi, I have a 52 reg 1.9TDI 130bhp classic. It has failed it's MOT on 2 things. The 1st is that the offside headlamp beam is too low. Just wondering if there's any way it can be sorted without having to go to a garage. It has normal car bulbs. The 2nd failure is that the rear brake application is uneven. The rear pads are wearing thin too. Would a change of pads solve this or would the brakes need adjusting some how? I have scrolled through several pages on the forum & haven't found any thing so appologies if I've missed it.Many thanks in advance for any help received.
