  1. The rubber strips slide out easily enough, but can be a bit of a bugger to get back in.  I find a little lubrication helps - in my case I used a smear of washing up liquid, but whatever comes to hand should do.  I've actually cut my rubbers, so that I've still got a rubber strip across the middle of the bars, and then either side of the feet of the bike racks, to reduce the whistle from the bars (and to help keep water out of the channels).

  2. Really? And the relevance to this thread (on a car forum) is what exactly? Pathetic.

The relevance is in Ernie B's post ... if you give the middle seat a good firm push (once the headrest is removed) it will roll up like the others, and that's what I tell SWMBO when I'm supervising her loading up the car. What's the problem? Feel free to ignore me as suggested though ... most people do.

  3. I'm a renowned technological incompetent, but my understanding of 'octane rating' is that high octane fuels can resist greater pressure before self igniting. Pinking is a result of low octane petrol igniting early under pressure (before the spark) in high compression petrol engines (with possible damage to the valves over the long term as a result). Lead used to be added to petrol to increase the octane rating, but modern cars are designed to run on lower octane, lead free, petrol. High octane fuels don't actually generate more power, it's just that high compression engines (which tend to be more powerful, relative to their size) need higher octane fuels to run properly. My old V8 MGB was perfectly happy on any old low octane petrol, because it relied on 'inches' rather than compression for power.

In diesel powered cars, of course, there is no spark plug, and we want the fuel to ignite under pressure alone, and therefore diesel fuel is relatively low octane. Whatever alleged benefits the more expensive diesel fuels (whether from Shell, BP or whoever) have, it's not a higher octane rating surely?

Or am I talking gibberish as usual?

Personally, tried the cheaper diesel and the more expensive stuff and can't see any difference in economy or performance.

  4. Sorry, but what is this nonsense about the middle seat not being able to be rolled up like the others? Here's a little tip - remove the headrest from the middle seat (very easy, there's a little button that you push across, and then slide the headrest out) and then you can roll up the seat!

  5. I took delivery three weeks ago and the pages in my manual were all out of sequence. I've returned it to the dealer for replacement.

"You're playing all the wrong notes" Andre Previn.

"I'm playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!" Eric Morecambe.

  6. We are off to Holt, to see SWMBO's head teacher when she first started teaching 30+ years ago!

Staying at a b&b near Norwich for 2 nights, day boat hire on the broads on Saturday.

Lovely little town Holt - I live in a village about 5 miles from there, towards Sheringham. Small world ... I'm an ex-teacher (for the last 10 years or so, before I retired, I taught teachers, running a PGCE course). And I have a boat on the Broads, and may be on the water on Saturday! What colour is your Yeti? I'll wave at everybody over the weekend and see if I get a response!

  7. We are off on a road trip this weekend to Bob Dog country, we are a bit worried about how we get on with all that flat land once we arrive. Will be interesting to see what the Yeti count turns out to be. On previous trips (to all manner of places) we have been surprised by the lack of them....

Depending where you go, it's not as flat as reported - north Norfolk in particular has some rolling terrain. Quite a few Yetis round hereabouts ... Where are you staying? PM me if you want some hot tips of good places to eat/drink/visit!

  8. I understand a site like this needs some sponsorship to help finance it.

Has anybody else seen the advert for CNTuning that pops up at the top of the page from time to time?

Has anybody else glanced quickly and completely misread it?

  9. A black Yeti driver waved at my wife in her red one today, in Epping. (Essex)

She did return the wave. :)

I've read this over and over and still can't quite work out whether you mean the Yeti was black, or it's driver?
