  1. My penneth worth: I work for a housing provider in london. We had a scheme where the Ecodan/Mitsubishi ASHP's system was fitted. The installer didn't fully understand the system and fitted/commissioned many components incorrectly. That, together with uninformed users, caused no end of defect call outs for maybe 2-3 years, ranging from programmer and room stat issues, to leaks, back flows and cold spots in certain rooms. It was eventually resolved by another subcontractor IIRC. Generally, the full package itself works well in principle and would be something I'd invest in, together with a PV and battery storage set up. If you can, select a handful of installers and ask to visit/demo their work from a previous client (obviously, covid allowing). ASHP's are widely used in many parts of the world, so it's a proven technology. Also, gas won't be around for much longer... Hope that helps. Robstaaaar
  2. Morning fellow Briskies! Apologies for hijacking this thread (Mods: Please move if wrongly posted), but would appreciate your thoughts: Bambi did this (see image) to my Fabia VRS but came off worse. I managed to make the 4 mile journey back home although both coolant rad and air con condenser have been ruptured as well as the damaged bodywork, number plate and fogs. Can't be arsed to go thru insurance as they write it off, plus I have lockdown time on my hands to sort. I've already taken the bumper and top panel off, but a few queries: 1) Can I safely disconnect the refrigerant lines without blowing myself up and do I need any special tools? (Haynes manual recommends anything to do with disconnecting the condenser should be done dealer or specialist). Note: The aircon hasn't worked for at least a couple of years before the deer-strike. 2) Could I have damaged the air con compressor since I've been driving the 2 years or so without the air con working? 3) I have a new rad, condenser, bumper etc. on order - do you recommend I also order a drier (looks like a sink waste bottle trap). 4) My plan is to remove the rad and condenser when the new parts arrive, refit, replace coolant and then drive the vehicle for re-gassing. 5) Alternatively, any thoughts on further butchering what's left of the bumper and fitting a FMIC with hard pipework? (I've done the 're-attaching the stock boost pipes' a couple of times a while back). If so, any perceived issues with mounting said FMIC in front of the new condenser? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions/comments etc. Robstaaaar
  3. Cool, thx Sep. Was kinda joking about the PTFE; I've ordered a repair kit from Amazon - should come sometime 2mrrw. cheers for the grease tip too 👍 Ham-fisted I ain't lol! She's done 180+ K and probably one too many an overtight by others finally put paid to it...
  4. Hey fellow Briskies... All was going well on the regular 3K oil change until attempting to fit the new sump plug and realised it wasn't tightening. Worst nightmare has come to light - a stripped thread on the sump body. I've Youtube'd a few vids which all suggest tapping a new thread - I have neither the premises or the gear to hand - and as things stand, no car to even get the parts. Any suggestions? Will have to insure my old banger van to get me around for now. ps. I do have some plumber's PTFE tape... Ta.
  5. Hi Ken, is this like doing a 'hard reset' on a mobile phone? Or ctrl-alt-del if you will? Ta
  6. @vindaloo Thanks for the comments/advice. Much appreciated. My responses below: 1) I have an old electrician's multimeter somewhere, many years old now. I don't have one of the vehicle 'plug-in' diagnostic tool thingy though. I know the passenger speaker is blown - got a new set but gave up replacement attempt when I realised speaker's behind some riveted steel plate. Reason I suspect it 'could' be a wiring issue as the driver's side speaker works very occasionally, then just 'fizzles out'. 2) Yep, resistor pack probably blown. 3) callisthenics - do you mean all the internal flaps and stuff ducting air/vents behind the control knob? re: pollen filter change a year or so ago. I have a new one on the shopping list! 4) Thanks - will try the duct tape and plastic sheeting 5) Yep will get alignment checked; previously had this done but within days it back pulling to the left. Think I may invest in new poly bushes, springs and dampers, new tyres etc, then get the alignment sorted. 6) Agreed 7) Noted 8) Yep, will go down the torque limited route. Do you have any recommended garages in the herts/beds/bucks area that could quote for remap? Thanks again, robstaaaar
  7. ...was just about to google Arab springs, then the penny dropped lol
  8. ...if only, but the commute to work in & around Lardarn dictates
  9. Hi all, old and new... Not been on here for a few years now. Anyway, got a few gripes with the '07 SE that I've been putting off for a while; 1) Lost all sound from main door speakers although the tweeters work. Swapped the head unit with a spare one but same thing. Anyone had this issue; do I assume i'll have the re-run new wiring? I intended to fit new speakers and upgrade the head unit, fit an amp and sub too. Until then, it's streaming audio on the mobile stuffed behind the sun visor 2) Fan speed now only works on 4. That's full-blast or zilch! 3) Heating temp control is just bonkers - cold on hot setting, warm on hot, hot on warm etc.; sometimes it works as it should but more often not. Btw, It's not a head gasket/coolant issue common to more old skool cars... 4) Glass misting up is once again doing my nut. It maybe 'cos i've never done the rear door seal/water ingress issue. Put up with it for yonks, but now the heating/air blower's malfunctioning, it's more of a pain. 5) The perennial 'steering pulling to the left' issue. 6) Anyone with experience/recommendations for fitting lowered suspension/springs kits? How much lower for a typical 100+ mile day commute of motorway,A/B roads, speed humps etc. 7) Still on the original exhaust - Need I be worried? I've clocked up 167K miles and she appears 'ok'... 8) Last, but not least: considering the tighter London diesel emissions zone coming in 2020 (https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/vrm-checker-ulez) , anyone think I'm ill-advised to go down the remapping route for a 'moderate' power/performance increase with the sole aim for 'going out with a blast', cos SAF, the car will prob be near worthless when i'm forced to ditch it for some bloody EV or something equally soulless. Any help/comments welcome. Great to be back Robstaaaar
  10. Cool. Thanks for the quick reply; much appreciated! Rob
  11. Hi ya all, Can anyone advise if these will fit the fabia vrs mk1's? http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/c/Skoda_Fabia_1.9_2007/p/car-accessories/summer-essentials/car-accessories/summer-clearance/?975448025&0&cc5_1051
  12. Believe me, I've been screwed as a buyer and seller on ebay. My gripe this time is there is no way of properly contacting or reasoning with them. Their CS are in obscure places like The Philippines. They kept sending wrong returns details which meant I wasted so many journeys to Parcelforce, collect+stores and loads of phone calls. Then telling me what I already knew about their f*** up. ..and then saying how very sorry for inconvenience. infamy, infamy; they've all got it in for me aaaaarghhhh
  13. Wow! Thought it really was just me who was going nuts over what a complete sham eBay are! Seems like they pish alot of others off - daily. All fur coat, no knickers spring to mind. I'm on a consumer warpath and will not let this one go. Will wait to make sure I get my refund them do all sorts of 'unspeakables' to ensure they never forget this monumental ****-up. Maybe even get Ann Robinson on the case.... Still fuming, Rob
  14. Mine (when the MF turbo's sorted ) does this. Not sure why, but i'm getting really sick of having the put my foot under the pedal and kick it up. Revs increase to 15/1600. Aaaaargh!
  15. Yeah hang in there! Try the Consumer Action Group for further advice/experiences: http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/forumdisplay.php?88-Private-Land-Parking-Enforcement Rob
  16. Hi. If you're still dealing with this, ping the link below and have a good look through: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/advanced-search.php?q=pcn&searchtype=guides Rob
  17. Had the great displeasure of trying to work my way around this labyrinth-like system yesterday evening, to sort out why ebay kept on issuing incorrect goods returns slip. Needless to say, I would have better off if I boiled my own head!! Telephone call handlers in the Philippines who have no personality or authority to deliberate. Just telling you over and over what you already know... Shocking, shocking, shocking experience. Just wondered if anyone else had this and how they went about getting some sort of response? Yours fumingly, Rob
  18. I'd be interested in a SE blue set of your hard pipe setup pls. Currently awaiting a Hybrid turbo from Xman so hgigh time to eliminate the continual boost pipe leaks! How do you accept payment? Ta, Robstaaaar
  19. If yr down saaaaf, try neo bros in waltham cross. They are the only UK distributors for Neuton tyres. Check out reviews of these tyres on tyrereviews.com. I've had several sets of these and are a decent mid-range product for a really good price. They're also on ebay.
  20. Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo If 'unsold' pls let me know. Robstaaaar
  21. Hi, is this still available? I have the police siren thing going on with mine (vrs SE) and reckon the turbo's on the way out. Sorry for the 'blond question', but is your turbo a straight fit for mine? robstaaaar
  22. Hi Sepulchrave, Ty for yr response. Yes, tried looking as I noticed it when sorting out leaking air intakes pipes. Only really got the Fab back on the road in the last week and silly me left home w/o any spare coolant. I've unloaded a bottle of Radweld and 4 litres of said cheapo 'bluecol'. Idled and pootled around the office car park for 20 mins, no drip-drip leak like i noticed before but after the run, coolant level has dropped a little below min. level. Warning ding and thermo lamp did NOT come on after switching off n back on again tho. However I did notice a slight squirts of coolant just to the side of the expansion tank, so maybe that's at fault? Gonna risk the drive home now - at quarter to 11 at night! Wish me luck Will keep you all posted. Night night Robstaaar
  23. Hi all, Sorry to hijack, but I have the same issue (coolant loss, pinging alarm and thermo warning on dash). Have just bought Radweld and 5L of cheapo antifreeze from Wilkinson to get me the 40 miles home. Had the tell-tail symptom of the heating running cool when turned to hot. Only topped up the expansion tank this am - was empty by late pm. Does this sound like the aforementioned fan switch? Anyone had similar? Cheers, Rob.
