  1. @varooomMy car does not have the stop/start technology in it. Not had chance to fit parts yet as weather been iffy and health variable at the moment. I have bought four plugs and a coil pack which covers all four spark plugs. It is a square pack rather than one which slots down atop the spark plug. Waiting on new leads as if I am taking the front part off the engine to do the plugs and coil pack, I might as well replace those whilst it is off. The car is definitely due a service as it had the service light on when I bought it. Will also be getting air and fuel filters when I collect the leads, and will work out best engine oil for it.

  3. @varooom just had a look at VCDS on my car, trying to follow the battery coding info. I do not have 10 Adaption listed when I go into the 19 Canbus option, and can see no obvious way to code for battery change..
  4. Hi @varooom, thanks for the reply. I will try the battery coding today and report back. I did not include the other section of the faults listed as they do not obviously relate to the issues experienced (one is high level 3rd brake light issue the other two are related to alarm horn), but can add those today for completion.
  5. Hello again. Bought plugs and coil pack but not been able to fit them yet. Now my red engine coolant pressure light in com8ng on intermittently. Never had a car go like this before.
  6. @KenONeill Hi Ken, the second car I learnt to drive in was a rear engined Estelle way back in 1988 (my first was a Volvo Estate). Father in law no 1 owned Favorits and Felicias; drove them regularly as he was quite a lazy driver (he just wouldn’t change gear beyond 2nd most of the time). Moved to Guernsey in 2003 and saw a Felicia going for free with head gasket issues, then bought one for £50 with a head gasket issue before picking up a Felicia Est with a good engine but leaky sunroof, dodgy door and ignition locks, and a very dog smelling interior. Combined the best parts from all three of these into one good estate car, and sold off as many good parts as I could before selling on the car. I now have my Octavia, and my son has just passed his driving test and now owns a 2011 1.2 htp Fabia which I drive periodically as well.
  7. @varooom Thank you. Your reply with that information is really helpful. Looks like I will be downloading that later tonight!
  8. Hello again! I have been a member since 2011 (at the time I was combining three dead / dying Felicias into one good runner, which was then sold! I have been inactive since then as I have been without a Skoda until Christmas 2022. My current ride is a 2011 Octavia mk2 facelift 1.6L BSE Estate. I have driven / owned an Estelle, Favorit, Felicia, Fabia and the Octavia, which I love, but have hit issues at the time of writing. Call me old school, but I miss having a proper Haynes manual in my hands for this car. I have the online Autofix version but it is not the same. I have bought the VCDS Hex V2 from Gendam so am getting to grips with that.
  9. @varooom is the manual as good as Haynes used to be? I.e. location photos and how to’s. I have a 2011 Octavia Est with 1,6l BSE engine and Haynes only offer online autofix manual for this car/engine, which seems great for circuit diagram based investigations but seems to rely on you knowing where things are located.
  10. I have used bike racks that hook over all four sides of the tailgate and never had an issue with damage to the glass as the metal parts that would touch the glass normally have inch plus thick rubber pads around them. Have had three bikes on one of these. You can adjust the vertical straps to keep the bike away from the number plate as needed.
  11. Not sure whether something like Sugru would work (I have never tried it) as it is flexible when set (or maybe a liquid gasket?). I would allow it to dry with the light off the car so it bonds only to the light casing with the flexible bit against the car when installed to seal. I normally drill a very small hole at the top and base of the light fitting to allow water to flow out bottom and air to flow in at the top. I am not a professional mechanic or bodywork repairer, so can not guarantee that either of these are the right way to go, so if you do try either of these, it is at your own risk and I accept no liability!!
  12. Hi, Bought a 2011 Octavia Est 1.6 (VIN TMBHA21Z8B2123738) with 45k miles early Dec 23, and now experiencing intermittent rough running (misfire). First Experienced a sluggish start one cold morning which it seemed to recover from. Couple days later I stalled the car whilst reversing. On restart, the orange 'control system for exhaust' and 'ESP or Traction Control System' warning lights came on together, and the engine started rough running. I switched off and restarted the engine and the lights remained off and the engine ran smoothly again. Several days later the car failed to start (clicking on turning key) Attempted to charge battery but it would not charge. Turned out battery was the original made in 2011, so replaced with new one. I still experience intermittent rough running and have now bought a VCDS Hex V2. Looking at the engine faults, I am thinking that I need to replace spark plugs and possibly coil packs. How do i know which cylinder is no 1 and which is number 4? Does anyone have any other suggestions as to where I look to resolve these issues? I was hoping to pick up a Haynes manual but of course there doesn't seem to be a printed version for my car. Any suggestions regarding the ABS fault? Anyone able to shed any light?
  13. I have just acquired my second Skoda, a 1998 Felicia estate 1.6GLXi, for the grand sum of £50!! It has a few issues...handbrake doesn't work, interior fan switch doesn't work, couple of bits of missing boot trim (and the rear door lock missing) and a slightly blowing exhaust, but in my 7 days of ownership have already managed to cure the fact that it was running on three cyclinders!! I am hoping to tackle the handbrake tomorrow so that I can get the car into use pending resolution of the other minor issues. Thanks in advance for the info on this site!!
