  1. Don't think that can be true. If you dont lock the cap after screwing it back on it stays unlocked, i.e next time you fill up, open flap unscew cap. No key needed.

  5. Thanks, it's on the AM waveband at 198 metres. It will usually be broadcasting the same content as radio 4 FM. The sound quality will be poor, it always is at those low frequencies even with a "normal" aerial, but if you could just check that it does pick up speech that is reasonably audible I would appreciate it very much.
  6. Hi guys, with those really stubby aerials, has anyone checked long/medium wave reception quality? I'm an old git who likes to listen to TMS on radio 4 longwave. Ta.

When getting into an auto from a manual rather than resting my left foot in its usual position next to the clutch pedal I initially place my left leg under my right leg with my foot tight against the seat front. This means you have to think about moving it rather than it being an automatic response to slowing, accelerating, engine note etc. after a while I am used to it and can move it back to it's normal position. At this point the fun can begin as you start left foot braking.
  9. But freewheeling actually uses more fuel. As Dempsek said, modern cars cut all fuel to the engine on accelerator lift off i.e no fuel is burnt. When freewheeling you are still burning, albeit minimal, fuel because the engine is ticking over.
  10. I'm not suggesting the figures are false, I just think that if Skoda experts such as James are a little incredulous there may be some omission of information. I know it said 45 litres, but they may have assumed it was the standard tank capacity as stated in the owners manual. You can get much more than the stated capacity into most tanks. As for how to, search for "fuel tank capacity" thread in the Fabia II forum, this will explain all. The same effect can be obtained on a garage forecourt on a hill. My last fill on my VRS (45 litre tank) took 47.9 litres and the gauge was showing just under 1/4 full when I stopped! I regularly had the same thing on my previous Mondeo 78 litres into a 70 litre tank and that didn't have a vent button, at least not to my knowledge.
  11. Also he may know about venting the tank. In which case it would be closer to 55 litres of diesel at the start.
  12. wmerrifield, have you the original brochure from the dealer valid for the date you ordered your car? If so and this states that the spare is included as standard I would contact Skoda customer service rather than the dealer. I can obviously see from your post number that you are not that familiar with the forum (unless you've been lurking for ages) but if you look around you will find a few examples of dealers not knowing their a**e from a hole in the ground. A case in point being the MDI cable.
  13. That is usually caused by an electrolytic reaction between the alloy of the wheel and the steel of the hub. Best way to stop it is to use a thin layer of grease (I use copaslip) between any mating surfaces. Also whilst refitting the wheels ensure the wheel nuts/bolts are at the correct torque settings. Again I use a tiny amount of grease on the threads to inhibit rust. This may all seem a bit anal but preparation like this done at your leisure on a nice sunny day can prevent an experience like the mad monks, on a cold wet motorway hard shoulder in the pouring rain at 3 AM. Oh and before anyone has a go at me about putting grease on wheel threads, I've done it for years on road and race cars and never yet lost a wheel.
