It could be the stalk, they do have a habit of failing when the contacts become dusty / dirty or worn just inside the steering column.

Have you tried pulling the stalk towards you and then gently wiggling the stalk to see if you can temporarily re-engage the contacts?

    I'll check all the fuses.

The stalk seems to be fine, the wipers clean the windscreen when I pull it - just without the spray.

  2. Hi,

I have a 2011 Octavia Mk11. A couple of months back the windscreen washer stopped working. When I pull the stalk I can't hear the motor sound like I use to, the wipers work but the nozzles don't spray any water.

I tried to look at the Fuse compartment inside the car and in the engine bay, they look fine. I'm unable to locate the fuse responsible for the washer motor, or is it a relay? Need help in figuring out. Thanks.

  3. A friend of mine topped up engine oil in his TSI and forgot to put the cap back on and drove around for approx. 20 miles before realizing. What could be issues resulting from this, I could see a little dust around the cap area. Does one need to flush out the engine oil (in case it is contaminated)? What other corrective actions should be taken?

  4. A friend of mine bought a Skoda Octavia II F/L about 6 months back with a manual gearbox. This has a 2.0L TDI motor, this same motor produces 140 bhp on my car which has a DSG transmission but produces 110 bhp on his (detuned). What are the options to remap/tune to re-claim those lost 30 horses? I'm just guessing that everything remains the same, its just another map.

  5. Hi.

You are talking here about 2 separate things

    1. Columbus will work without Maxidot. But it does NOT have bluetooth built in.

    2. Bluetooth. You will need to buy a separate Bluetooth module to get Bluetooth functionality. Oem unit fitted under drivers seat. Fiscon unit might be a cheaper option

The 2 units will work together, and work best with Maxidot, which can also be retro fitted.

Thanks for the reply, few more questions...

    1. RNS-510 / Columbus / MFD3 - can these terms be used synonymously ?

    2. Are there different spec versions of 'Columbus' available in the market/eBay , viz US/Euro/etc...?

    3. Which is the best source to buy one and which spec/version ?

    4. What I understand is that if Columbus is installed on a Skoda that does not have or support Maxidot, it still works seamlessly but without any display on the instrument cluster. Am i right ?

    5. Where does one source maps from, I need it specific to India. Is Navteq a source ?

Excuse my ignorance, I'm trying to learn.

  6. Hi, I have a 2011 Skoda Octavia II Ambiente 140 CR DSG (2.0 TDI, known as Skoda Laura in India). The car does not have 'Maxidot' display nor does it have steering mounted controls comes with Skoda Swing OEM ice (https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Superb/06-2009/Radio/B6_Superb_Swing_CarRadio.pdf) which is very basic has a single CD player, Radio, Reverse sensor display, AUX input. Would like to upgrade to an RNS-510 to add GPS Navigation and Bluetooth Phone connectivity. My question - Is this doable on a car which does not have Maxidot and Steering mounted controls ? What parts / part no's does one need to get ? Where does one get India specific maps from ? Relying on briskoda champs to get an answer, Thanks.

  7. Hello everyone,

Nice to be on board such an interesting forum, I'm from Bangalore, INDIA. Don't own a Skoda as yet, planning on a LAURA (OCTAVIA in other countries) ... market research is on and the reason to be on this forum. I hope I'm able to give more than I take from here. Cheers.
