  1. Hiya, I've had the 2019 VRS 240ps DSG for about 5 months now. It's done about 4000 miles. Upon WOT, and most noticeable in 3rd gear, once it really starts pulling about 4000rpm, the back windscreen is white from all the steam(?) coming out the exhaust. I put it down to it blowing all the condensation out of the exhaust but not sure there's that much in there. I also wondered about water injection but don't know where that would be stored. Finally thought it could just be running so rich at that RPM/boost that the steam is not fully burnt petrol. It runs fine. Just wondered if anyone else notices this?
  2. I think they're Bridgestone Potenza. Not sure which model.
  3. Quite a few people seem to be confirming it here as well
  4. Nah it's definitely limited. The grip is pretty phenomenal really. The LSD is amazing.
  5. Not sure this is the right place but here's my thoughts about my 4 week old 245 DSG estate. TL;DR - meh. The practicalities are great which I expected. I had a manual hatch 2006 VRS a few years back and it was great so I knew that the boot would be huge and it would be comfortable inside. Knowing DSG and the TFSI engine I knew what that would be like. But there's a few things which are bugging me slightly. 1. The suspension. I did originally order a car with the DCC but it was going to take months to deliver and I couldn't wait. So I went for a stock car with 18" wheels and no DCC. It's just always hard. You need a really smooth road for it not to be constantly moving. It's meant to be a family car so not sure why they've gone so hard by default. A similar Golf GTI is so much more composed. 2. 2nd gear. It's pointless. Feels like it's restricted to about 200 PS. You're always trying to keep it in 3rd because it's quicker than 2nd. Sometimes it'll kick down to 2nd which actually slows down the acceleration. They're obviously trying to save the DSG box but it's bloody frustrating. 3. The tyre noise is deafening. You're having to shout to have conversations. 4. Just assumed it would have the standard convenience stuff that all the Korean and Japanese cars have e.g. 12v socket in the back, reversing camera as standard (I've got one but had to pay as an option), wireless phone charging. VAG are really behind the curve on that stuff. But everything else is good. I get 50 MPG on motorway runs. The driver's seat is creaking on the right hand bolster. I think it'll have to go back but I'm expecting a fight over it.
  6. Car is provisionally sold. I managed to dent the boot 1 day after putting it up for sale and have agreed a sale depending on the repair being of high quality.
  7. Yeah as Wakey says, I'm in Bromsgrove.Thanks.
  8. Oh forgot to say, I'll throw in the Thule foot pack and fitting kit so to have a full Thule roof rack you'd only need the wing bars. Worth about £100. Also I'll throw in the Brodit phone/PDA mount which is Octavia specific. You'd then only need the phone-specific holder side.
  9. Few more photos until I take some at the weekend
  10. Hi all, The time has come for me to part with my vRS. I'm advertising here because it's a really nice car and would be best going to an enthusiast who knows what they're looking for. Vital Stats: black hatch 10 months MOT 102k Full Skoda service history up until I became the owner at about 80k, where it's had a couple of services from independent garages Timing belt done at 65k 18" wheels New tyres on front from last MOT and service just before Christmas, rear tyres have done about 10k but have plenty of tread left Not sure what was standard or optional on these but it has everything you can think of; dual-zone climate control, heated electric mirrors, cruise control, etc. Inside I've changed the original Nexus head unit to a Pioneer double DIN CD/MP3/USB/AUX head unit with bluetooth audio and phone. The mic for the hands free is correctly installed. The 6 disc changer from the boot is a bit pointless these days so I've removed it and the plastic frame which just took up space. The interior is spotless. Mechanically sound. Clutch and DMF seem absolutely fine. It can sometimes wobble slightly on tickover due to a bit of TFSI valve coking. I bought the inlet manifold gasket to take it off and clean it out at some point but never got round to it. The entire air con system was replaced 2 years ago. I used auto-aircon in Redditch who have a great reputation. They changed the compressor for a Denso unit, the condensor, radiator, dryer, expansion valve and all related components. Outside it has a few scratches and stone chips which are in keeping with the age of the car. There is a small dent in very edge of the O/S rear door. If you're looking at this you know what a practical, modern, nice car these are. For a quick sale I'll take £3500. I'll get some more photos at the weekend. Thanks for looking.
  11. I've had a squeaking driving me bonkers for ages now. It came from the centre console and stopped if I pushed my left knee against the side. I think I've finally tracked it down and it's these buggers: They're the side panels from the side of the centre console in the foot wells. The metal clips rattle over bumps but you can't get to them to stop them doing it. I've put some silicone sealant on them before putting back in so hopefully it'll stop it. Just thought I'd put this here in case it's happening to anyone else.
  12. If you paid the right amount for it (it wasn't a trade sale etc) from a dealer then it doesn't matter how long warranty they give you, you still have your statutory rights. You won't feel the revs drop when aircon calls as it's a clutchless variable compressor. Mine seized and broke the safety on the compressor, causing no cooling with no other symptoms. I'd speak direct to Skoda UK customer services if they slap you with a bill for £2000 for a replacement of the compressor, expansion valve, condenser, radiator. Or be asking the dealer you bought it from to pay for it. Forget Warranty Direct. They're not worth a penny. They'll do anything they can to weasel out of any claim.
  13. Not sure now. Might have been this one http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/productdocs/STaSISMTF0turboinstalltransverserev7_2.pdf
  14. I've got the manifold gasket to strip the inlet manifold off and clean it but when I went to start the job following the mk5gti guide, my engine looked completely different. Does anyone have a link to a guide for the TFSI in the 06 Octavia VRS? The fuel rail looked completely different and I couldn't see how it all came off. I'm just a bit wary as it's DI so very high pressure compared to the old 3 bar systems.
  15. Have you clicked the image to make it bigger? This is in excel too I've just used a bluetooth OBD and Torque app to log stuff. Fair bit cheaper than VAG-COM and a cable
  16. Hi all, I've got Torque (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque) logging a few things via OBD. Here's a graph it's created for Air/fuel ratio commanded vs measured with boost. An interesting one here is that the engine has done 85k and has a bit of a wobble on tickover likely due to the crapped up intake manifold. I think this is shown in commanded AFR against measured AFR. Commanded is quite stable (blue), but red is a bit wobbly.. RPM is on the primary axis, everything else on secondary. Anyone else got any?
  17. Took some time this morning to try and find a switched live. Dismantled a bit of the dash and found one. It's the smallest black wire closest to the camera. It seems to be a wire for the windscreen wiper fuse. It only comes on with ignition but that'll do for now. Then connected it straight into the Pioneer loom with a bullet crimp It now looks like this until I get the correct fascia
  18. Funny you should say that, I thought 'sod it, I'll go official' and went into Trust Skoda at lunchtime. Sat with the parts guy who couldn't find anything but a single DIN kit, listed for £100. Hit and miss who you get I suppose.
  19. Yeah exactly that. That fascia looks pretty much bang on, good find thanks.
  20. Next question now I've got 2 of you involved For now I'll be happy to just wire a switched live from the fuse box because I don't need the extra couple of CAN connections. But I bought this: Because it was listed as being 2006 VRS compatible. Had to butcher it slightly to get the Pioneer plastic surround to fit on the inside. Now I've come to put the silver fascia back on and it looks like this: Going slightly mad with how difficult it is to just put a better car stereo in my Octavia. Not as if it's a particularly rare car. Does anyone know if this http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/con-ctksk02-ctksk02-skoda-octavia-2004-radio-installation-kit.html will fit in my fascia correctly?
  21. Or something like this? http://caraudiosecurity.com/skoda-can-bus-adaptor Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
  22. OK just wheeled the old Nexus out because I remembered it had a pin out on the top. So would I be right in assuming that if: Blue: Safe Double Red: +UB Orange: Alarm Red/White striped: +UB (with switched symbol) I just need to swap red and yellow, then put yellow into where the blue currently is? Would this just be the wrong adapter that Halfords have given me?
  23. Hi all, I've just sold my Nexus and bought a Pioneer FH-X700BT double DIN to replace it. Halfords gave me an autoleads PC-75-4 adapter cable. I've since checked on the autoleads web site and it's listed as compatible for the Octavia. The problem is there's no switched live (ACC). The stereo powers up as soon as the cable is connected and the ignition makes no difference. I've tried switching the yellow and red wires around on the stereo harness like is normally the trick but it makes no difference. Here's the loom and connector in the car Then with the adapter connected, it looks like the red permanent live on the stereo side connects to a blue wire in the loom, the yellow switched live connects to a double red cable, then the black earth is in the right place. Does anyone know what the 4 wires (blue, double red, orange, red/white stripe) are? thanks.
