  1. Thanks for your suggestions Nigel, I have tried lubricating the linkages to no avail. In reply to your earlier questions it's a five speed with reverse next to fourth gear. I have tried a few things this week to see what makes the gear selections easier.

At the traffic lights I tend to keep the car in neutral and I select first just before setting off, if this is rushed the first gear is hard to select, but if the clutch is depressed in advance by a few seconds to allow the gears to slow down it is easier, to get around the problem another gear can be selected before first which makes this a lot easier. Third then first is better than second then first, presumably because both first and third are in the same direction for the gear lever, when selecting reverse this is made easier by selecting fourth gear beforehand, also same direction of travel. I think a different grade of gear oil would help but need to know which grade is best. When the engine isn't running all the gears select  easily.

  2. Thanks Nigel

thats a good point, yes it is a manual gearbox, I didn’t realise they made automatics, I bet they’re interesting to drive. I did try searching on here before posting and found a couple of threads that hadn’t been answered. If it was the cables would it still be difficult without having the engine running because it’s easy to go through the gears with the engine switched off. The tick over isn’t high but I’m not sure if the flywheel is dual mass I’ve always thought they were reserved for diesels. By the way that looks like a very nice Estelle. Cheers Tony

  3. I have a 2017 1.0 MPi Fabia and it’s a great little car, but, it can be very reluctant to go into first or reverse gear. It doesn’t make much difference if it’s hot or cold, and sometimes it goes into gear very easily, especially if the engine has just been started. If I go in and out of a couple of other gears I can get around green problem but this isn’t ideal in stop start traffic etc. Many thanks for any help

  4. I have the same problem on a 2011 Fabia 1.2 Tsi. I replaced the turbo actuator with a Chinese copy part, it was alright for a few weeks and now the problem has reappeared. I’m looking for a better part because I think this is the cause of error code P155A (I used a Clarke code reader to get the reading) and the yellow engine light on the dashboard. Prolonged acceleration such as driving uphill on the motorway brings the light on. Looking forward to getting it fixed as the car struggles to reach 70 mph now. Any ideas anyone? Thanks

  5. Can anyone recommend a supplier for a turbo actuator. The car is a Fabia 1.2 Tsi 86 bhp 2012 model. I have been quoted over £300 for a genuine part and £60 for a Chinese copy. Having already tried a Chinese part which only lasted a short time before it started putting the engine check light on and performing badly I am looking for something as good quality as the original Mahle part which lasted several years. Many thanks in advance.

  6. Did you get this fixed? I had a broken breather pipe too but it wasn't the one in your hand it was from the rocker cover and I could smell oil fumes in the car, this didn't put a warning light on though. I have P155A fault code now and the yellow check engine light is on, I can reset it but it comes back during prolonged acceleration such as joining a motorway and then there's a loss of power. The car has recently had a new turbo actuator fitted but the fault still exists. Thanks

  7. The wiring appears to be alright so I’ve replaced the oil sensor again, this time I have used a genuine Hella part. I noticed that when the other new part was fitted the oil temperature reading was quite erratic, randomly going from nothing to very high, this has settled down now and sensible readings are now showing up.

The oil level light didn’t appear again for a while after the Hella part was fitted but it’s now making occasional appearances. Does anyone know the point at which the light is triggered? I always keep the oil level near the maximum point of the dipstick.

  8. I had a yellow oil can symbol on the dashboard accompanied by the words "Oil sensor: Workshop!" so I fitted a new oil level sensor (not a genuine Skoda part) but the light still comes on. I went back to the motor factors where I bought the replacement part and they cross referenced the part number from the original part with the one that they supplied and confirmed that it is correct. (The wiring seems ok and the bonnet catch switch seems ok too because the dashboard display shows when it is open and goes off when it is closed, sometimes the catch switch can cause the oil light warning as well.

Do I need to do some kind of fault code reset to clear the fault?

So far I have used a code reader which showed no stored faults but it isn't a very expensive one, and I have also tried leaving the battery disconnected for a while. The original part number is 03C 907 660M and the engine code is CBZA
    Thanks for your help.

  9. The exhaust is quite corroded on my 1.2 TSi Monte Carlo so I'm thinking of having a stainless steel cat back exhaust fitted and a local garage has recommended a 2 inch pipe from the cat to the back box and a double tail pipe going through the bottom of the back bumper, they didn't think it was necessary to add a resonator box but I'm not sure if that will be too loud because I don't want it much louder, if any, than a standard VRS. Does anyone know if this will be ok?

  10. I've found a place near Wigan called Danmar who do custom exhausts, I've told them that I don't want it to be much louder than it is now with the factory exhaust and they've recommended a 2 inch diameter pipe with a single silncer and twin tail pipes. Does anyone have experience of this set up on a Fabia Tsi and has anyone here used Danmar?

  11. The amber engine light came on again so I tried using a Clarke scanner from Machine Mart but it only allowed me to clear the code and described it as a manufacturer specific code with no explanation of what the fault was. A few days later it was back on again so I disconnected the actuator from the waste gate, moved it around a bit and lubricated it, after I reconnected it the light went straight off so I started looking for a replacement actuator, there are plenty for sale on the internet as it's obviously a very common fault but there are two sizes of rod, 10cm and 11.6cm. Does anyone know where to properly take the measurements or are all Fabia 1.2 Tsi engines fitted with the 10cm version?

I've done some research into better turbos too and there are hybrid ones for sale for just under £400 but I'm not sure if they're going to make much difference on their own, so I might consider a remap instead if anyone can recommend a good company in Lancashire. I'm not looking for a huge increase in power just to be able to overtake lorries on the motorway and go up hills without changing gear so much, I appreciate that it's down  on power at the moment but it was struggling to keep up to 60 mph the other day because there was a slight incline and I ended up in third gear for half a mile until the road leveled out again, the engine light wasn't on at this point either so I must do something about it soon.

  12. I’ve just had another puncture from a long wood screw, probably something to do with all the building sites round here, so I went to a local garage for a repair. Luckily one of their tyre fitters also had a Monte Carlo and had been able to try various sizes of tyres on it, he ended up with 205/45/17 because when he tried 205/50/17 the front ones were too close to the struts at the bottom of the front springs. He said the ride was much better than with the original tyres so I thought this might be useful to someone else considering an upgrade and this is the size that I’ll be going for too. Thanks for everyone’s help.

  13. Has anyone replaced a 1.2 Tsi turbo with a bigger or better one? I have an 86 BHP Tsi and it seems to be developing turbo problems, lack of power and engine warning lights etc so I thought this would be a good time to replace the turbo with a better one that would give more performance.

  14. Hi mrgf, that explains something, I had a Fabia 1 before the Monte Carlo and it had discs all round and traction control, when we ordered the Monte Carlo I asked if it came with traction control and was told yes so I didn't need to add ESP, I added lots of other options so the extra £300 wasn't a big deal but I was told it didn't need it, when the car arrived it had rear drums and no traction control, if there was only one thing I could change on the car it would be this, it is a tsi so it's light at the front end and setting off where there's not much grip or accelerating in really bad weather can be a challenge which it wasn't in the last Fabia. To be fair to the salesman it should have been standard in this day and age anyway.
