  1. It's not unique to skoda, most manufacturers seem to be 9 months to a year at the moment.
  2. Playing the config tool on Skoda's website for a possible replacement for my 2009 vRS, and looking at a petrol DSG vRS. Does anyone have the travel assist and know what it includes? The config says: "Includes traffic sign recognition, adaptive lane assist, predictive adaptive cruise control and traffic jam assist. DSG engines also have emergency assist. Features included in the package: Adaptive cruise control (with "follow-to-stop") and speed limiter" Does traffic jam assist mean with a DSG you can just leave it in gear in a traffic jam and it will move forwards itself? Is the Adaptive Lane Assist any good? I've had basic lane assist on hire card that just try to make you crash if you dare to cross the white line without signalling, but had a Kia Ceed recently with really good lane following and I'd love to have that for motorway driving. However when I download the config sheet it has Lane Assist greyed out. 3. Fed up with taking wheels off the bikes to get them in the car. Anyone got any suggestions for cycle carrier options for a 2009 Octavia vRS Hatchback? Presumably the ones that clamp on the back are out due to the lack of frame on the hatch. Roof bars look like they clamp round the edge of the roof, but how secure is that? It looks a bit Heath Robinson to me. Looking on roofbox.co.uk it looks like around £200 for aero bars, and then £150-£200 for a pair of bike carriers. Presumably these are pretty noisy and there's a risk of me forgetting about the extra height at some point... A 2 bike tow bar mounted carrier looks to be around £200-£300 including lights, but a quick look online suggests around £600 to get a tow bar fitted, anyone got one able to confirm, and does it need the bumper cut? Tow bar mount seems like the better solution, but £800-£900 seems rather steep for how little I'd use it. Also what do you do about the reversing sensors, do they automatically turn off when something's plugged in to the to tow bar electrics?
  4. Mine's the standard bulbs not Xenons. Presumably as it's the first of the CR diesels it is the facelifted version? That link is great robt, thanks, I'll whip one of the headlamp units out one evening and check it against FUBARs photos.
  5. So presumably a flat beam is sufficient for use in Europe? Do you know if it's a nice obvious lever on the back of the lamp unit or something else? I've had the units out a few times over the years to change bulbs but never noticed anything obvious.
  6. Looking online it seems some octavias have a lever in the headlight to change the direction of the dip beam (ie for driving in the UK or on the continent), anyone know if my non xenon 2009 vRS will have this? I can't see anything obvious in the manual.
  7. Seem to have lost my biking mojo. Been working in Holland since September, finally finished the contract and this is my first full week back in the in the UK, and the weather's crap which isn't inspiring me to get out on the bike. Think I probably only did about 500 miles last year, and the wife did even less on hers. Need to do some work to the wifes Diversion (replaced the fuel tap seals but think in moving it around I dislodged any crap in the tank in to the filter and now it won't start). Got a couple of weekend meets planned in June/July but no longer trips, and will be away for another 3 months in the summer anyway so probably not ideal to be heading off for bike trips rather than going home, and at my current work it's not really worth using the bike to commute. Anyone else suffering from biking ennui?
  8. Cheers, sounds like Thule might make sense if they're the ones Skoda rebrand, but they're about £100 more than the basic Cruz ones, anyone here tried the Cruz bars? I'm assuming the bars go on and off pretty quickly? I'd only be using them occasionally so wouldn't want to leave them on all the time, so not overly worried about noise or fuel economy as the bike's will presumably be more of an issue than the bars.
  9. I have a Mk2 vRS hatch (without a towbar) and am looking to fit a bike carrier. I found a few old threads on here suggesting the ones that hang on the back of the car aren't a great idea, as the top clips would need to fit to the rear window glass and the bottom one's don't really have anywhere to go. How do roof bars fit? As far as I can tell there's a ridge along the edge of the roof rather than a channel, so do they clamp between the ridge and door frame? Does this cause the already leaky door seals to get worse? Roofbox.co.uk are showing package deals of bars and a pair of carrier for £90 for Cruz Bici-racks, or £145 for Thule freeride 532, both with the basic Cruz roof bars, but also offer Cruz Premium bars, Altera bars or Whisper bars. Anyone got any experience of these systems, or any better suggestions?
  10. How fragile is the magnet or housing? The shield's been rattling about a bit so could it have already damaged it? Presumably I'd get an ABS warning if the sensor/magnet dies? How much hassle/cost was it to get the hub done? I eventually found this thread and Kevin's approach of cutting a section out seems eminently sensible http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/311521-rear-brake-disc-shield-replacement/
  11. Dealer fitted new discs a couple of years ago so I'm hoping they're not corroded in too badly. Given them a squirt of Plus Gas so it'll have a while to soak in,
  12. The shield plate behind the rear disk has broken all its mounts and I need to remove the disk to get it off, however I've come unstuck already as it seems I need some form of large torx to get the carrier off. Anyone know what size? I've temporarily bodged it by drilling some holes in the shield and cable tying it in position so it doesn't rub on the disk, but I can't find any threads on here about removing the carrier, which prevents the disc coming off. ETA: Any suggestions where to get the replacement shield from? EuroCarParts don't list it on their website, SkodaParts.com only seem to list the left one. I'll give my local autofactors a bell tomorrow and see what they find unless anyone has any online shopping recommendations.
  13. What sort of age/mileage/condition? Iv'e got a mate with a VTR that might be interested in a swap
  14. I think I need to learn German or hassle our IT department to leave google Translate out of our proxy avoidance settings Pneus-tyres-online, oponeo, tyremen and a few other may also be worth a look. A few people on another forum are finding some companies are having delays getting stock of some tyres at the moment.
