  1. Tyres fit fine, have had 195/65/15's on my Fabia Greenline 2 for about 6 years with no issues bar small rub when slow turning on full lock. That's both the summer Goodyear efficient grip & continental eco 6 on alloys and continental winters on steels in same size. Speedo is bang on at 30, 40, 50, 60 & 70mpg as checked with sat nav and ride is a lot more comfortable. Main thing is checking on tyre px as that has an effect on ride quality and wear. Hope that helps, Andy
  2. 151k on my Fabia 1.2TDI Greenline estate now and still going strong. Main thing now is exhaust at car is one of the first on an 10plate and deteriorated a lot. Bar that nothing out of ordinary wear & tear items.
  3. Hi all, I am getting 350miles to 25l of fuel according to the trip computer which is good as far as i am aware. not quite the official figs though. I will see what i get over the winter with some Michelin Alpin A4 tyres currently fitted. Bought the car with 13k on it & the car has just passed the 38k mark in the 16 months i have had it. I always get the magic 350 miles per 25l apart from the one time i bought some Asda diesel in Bristol on the way back home and only managed 289miles before it needed re-filling. Also it would regen every day after that tankful so have not bought Asda fuel since. Best was 394miles to 25l which was with Shell Ultimate during the summer. Servicing costs with the dealer are quite high though, just had the big service a few thousand miles ago and came out £286 lighter, not chuffed and i didn't need the brake fluid doing then either. Final note people may be able to help me with is the timing chain/belt. Four different dealers have given me different advice from 40k, 60k, 80k for belt change and the other one said that it had a timing chain and was good for the life of the engine??? None the wiser myself so if someone on here is in the know i would be grateful, Cheers, Micmac37
  4. Congrats on getting the car sorted. At least you can enjoy the car now without the worry & you have had a spanking new dpf & cat which usually last about 80k before needing replacement. Hope your mpg gets to what you would expect from this type of car and also the power band has lengthened out as well which helps immensely although you do need to stir the box a fair bit to keep the engine spinning in the power band as it is gutless up to 1650rpm ish. Apparently the 1.2tdi's can now be tuned/chipped to about 95bhp and more or less the same torque as the 1.9tdi pd so saving pennies now. http://www.tdi-tuning.co.uk/car_and_van_diesel_tuning_boxes/skoda/fabia/12_tdi_cr_74_bhp__75_ps__55_kw/crtd2_diesel_tuning_box_skoda_fabia_12_tdi_cr_74_bhp_75_ps_55_kw_P2198.html http://www.amdtuning.com/product.details.cfm?ProductID=11114&VariantID=1292&ReferenceID=106623 http://www.tuning-chip.co.uk/chip-tuning-skoda-fabia-12-tdi-cr-75-hp-diesel/chips-tuning-diesel-skoda-fabia-12-tdi-cr-75-hp-kit-performance.html cheers, Andy
  5. Glad you have found Fabia that you are happy with. Agree with everyone on here regarding the difference between the PD & CR diesels. I have had a Fabia on a 'Y' plate just after they came out that I did 40k in 2yrs of ownership and only sold due to Skoda's in-ability to cure the LH steering issue despite many, many attempts and tyre changes every 8k miles. Since owning my GL2 estate since last September I have found it gets 750 miles per 50L fill although I do feel underwhelmed by the power delivery and the yawning flatspot in the power. Your 1.6 tdi will have a similar spot although prob much reduced. It is the same engine in the 1.6tdi across the power outputs so if you had ordered the lowest power you can now get them remapped to 140bhp without issues and the power delivery is massively improved. That's the next thing I am looking into getting done in my GL once I save up the pennies to make it more drivable. Anyway congrats and enjoy, Andy
  6. Does not bode well if the dealer is scratching there heads. Sounds like potentially a couple of problems manifesting themselves together. Mine has had the Egr valve replaced recently as the other was failing and from the service guy looking into it's history seems to have had most of the DPF sensors replaced int he past as well. My car is on 32k miles at the mo and increasing by about 70miles a day. Touch wood it is not going to have the same problem but will keep an eye to see how you go. Good luck with it and would defo go into the dealer and get a hands on check around the car. On the note of injectors, they are piezo crystal one's I think and each injector has a code on it to allow correct set-up of the ecu management to prevent the 'pinking' sound you seem to have had. My fabia seems to be more tractor like in it's sound to my old 'y' reg 1.9pd tdi I used to have and as the rest of the guys mentioned the power band is very tight. Andy
  7. Hi, i know it is way past your post but i am looking at getting one as well for my greenline 2 and found this one on ebay, item number - 370608351277. I am also looking at the armster one as well as these seem popular as an aftermarket item, Cheers, Andy
  8. Hi everybody and PDIUK, Been using the Fabia intermittantly over the last few weeks as wife has been car sharing/commuting to and fro Exeter. She has acheived 58-63 mpg throughout but has driven in a variety of different weather and has not used the cruise control as she feels that she would not be in full control of the car if it was on. Does not listen to me on the usage and safety of it. Been looking at possible ways to improve the mpg and driveability of it and have looked at Celtic Tuning & Radical Remaps as well who can now remap and remove the DPF safely without the issue of the warning lights and limp home mode. Has anyone had any contact with these companies? Also looking into poss removing the roofbars and changing the aerial to a sharkfin type or internal to reduce drag a bit and after some underseat storage boxes as well to provide more storage cubby holes. Has anyone done anything to reduce the MPG apart from driving very carefully. On a different note i was looking at winter steelies with some Conti wintercontact ts850's (195/65/15) higher gearing. Has anyone tried these as well? Any help or guidance is appreciated. Finally a couple of guys at work have the old VRS and are acheiving 60+ mpg with ease??? and can get almost 80mpg on a run apparently. This one has a switchable remap 80/130/180bhp. Runs standard most of the time but on a run up the motorway he runs at 80bhp giving great mpg. Have i got the wrong car here as real life mpg does not represent the realistically achievable mpg on my GL2 or would i be better convincing her to swap her E46 318i se for a VRS and using it myself.... Thanks for reading all this and sorry about so many questions/queries & idea's. We should really have a GL2 specific sub forum on here to make it easier for us all.
  9. Thanks there bluecar1. Advice much appreciated. I have messaged you as well with more questions, (sorry). if you want to post the content of it i'm good with that as it may get people talking about possibilities, Regards, Andy
  10. Hi all. Looking for some advice with regards to the Fabia greenline 2 estate. I am looking to purchase one in the next couple of months and need to know if it is worth the effort and if the car is as economical as the figures state. Obviously i am sceptical as to the manufactuers figures so if you fine people could let me know real life figures that would be really appreciated as well as driveability. I am after the economy but don't want to be not be able to keep up with traffic, etc. I am down in Cornwall and i commute 26 miles on 'A' roads to and from work each day. My present car is a Vectra on LPG and i am getting 350 miles from £40 worth of fuel which is not to bad. I would want significant improvements in the consumption to validate buying one of these. Failing that i would look again for an economical petrol car for possible lpg conversion. Many thanks, Macerena (Andy)
  11. hi, thanks for the tip, but i dont/am not sure how to get to his site can you post/send me a link, cheer's, micmac37
  12. hi m8, you could try chatting to the dealer and seeing which service regime the car is under. vw group car have allowed standard and variable service intervals for a while now. the standard service intervals use the 505.01 spec oils but the variable service intervals use the 506.01 spec oils. these are v.expensive so you could try out castrol longlife oil from halfords(check spec on back of pack first) and or visit the millers oils website as these guys do diesel specific oils at reasonable prices? hope this helps, cheer's now, micmac37
  13. :uglyhamme hello everybody, well i've just got an octy02 tdi elegance estate and am looking for hints and advice on how to make it a bit better. this is my second skoda, the first being a 'Y' fabia tdi elegance which was great apart from rubbing out the front tyre's in 8k miles due to pulling to the left h/s of the road. skoda uk tech were crap saying that they all did that!!!!!!!!. funnily enough as i worked nights i could check it out on the other side of the road and it ran straight and true with nil steering imput. enough said, sold the car because the attitude was so poor from skoda but never really stopped liking the cars. bought a 93 +then 96 passat tdi which i still have and they have been all good. i can forgive an older car for a few faults but not a split new one which the fabia was. anyway i would like to find a nice looking front bumper for the octy and tailgate spoiler to finish off so if you know of any good design's out there give me a shout, cheer's now,
