  1. Apparently no updates exist for my satnav (Amundsen)

Not impressed - have tried everything to source an update.  Bought the car (1.2 SE+) new in May 11 and the mapping was 2 years out of date then!

The dealer just pointed me to the Skoda site which, as I said, is no help.

On top of that, the GPS aerial failed earlier this year (although to be fair, the dealer did cough up half of the cost (£40) for a replacement).

    Any ideas out there ?

    Many thanks

  2. I just booked in for a service and MOT and was delighted to hear that same deal - I paid £19.95 for my MOT there last year and I thought that was good too... although I may sell my Fabia before next Sept... will have to see if they will transfer the free MOT if I end up getting an Octy :D

£129 for the service and courtesy car agreed for next week all sounds good too. Will report back with this years verdict once I get my car back.

    Marc

  3. Update:

1 Managed to get another (my 2nd) set of caps for the wheel nuts from the dealer, along with an admission that it is a common problem on all Skodas - so why don't they sort it ?

2 They think they've located the source of the vibration (more of a buzzing) as the central vents! Some more are on order. I was a bit dubious until I took the mechanic on a test ride and it seems to have disappeared. So far so good, but I reserve judgement at the moment.

One thing I learned: check the insurance requirements on an courtesy car offered. To be fair, the (Warrington) dealer did point out the excess before I signed (and politely declined the offer). The excess was ONE THOUSAND POUNDS!!!! What planet are they on! This is the only blank mark against the dealer so far, but it's an important one. I've never come across this before and didn't think it was worth the risk, preferring instead to spend £14 on taxis.

  4. Yup that's the problem.

    Have it on our vRS.

No cure but to replace them or get the aerosol paint out.

Reckon you did well to get them replaced under warranty DJAYB

Thanks for the replies. You may well be right but, if so, it's a poor reflection on the quality of he things - i.e. they're cheap and nasty. Also, the Yeti has only been hand washed at the local car wash once since this happened again. What the heck, I'll go back to Skoda and get some more (hopefully) when I take it in for the other problem.

Regarding mpg, I'm getting just around 40 mpg on each tankful (accurately measured and calculated each time).

  5. Just returned from hols where the Yeti performed very well in the Devon hills. I'm still amazed what this little engine can do (and so are passengers)!

However, there are two irritating niggles which I will be taking up with the dealer when I get the time:

1 The plastic caps which cover the wheel nuts have gone the way of the first set which were replaced after a couple of weeks. That is, they have developed a strange 'mottled' white finish. The dealer assured me that the problems with the first set had been a design fault which had been corrected. This set has lasted only a few weeks longer, so someone is telling porkies. They look a right mess once noticed!

2 More importantly, the car has developed a resonant high-pitched rattle which appears to be from under the rear passenger floor. This only occurs on the over-run (about 2500 rpm), for example when going downhill with no throttle. It could be something resonating in the exhaust, but is annoying and has been noticed by passengers.

    Any similar experiences out there?

    Thanks

Keep up the good work everyone.

  6. As we are taking delivery of an SE Plus next Friday, I thought I would enter the 2 Tone Grey Interior debate.

Luckily we are all different, but I really wanted the SE Plus because of the light grey plastic! I spent 3 years in dark grey/ black Touran and really like the light interior of the SE Plus. Mind you, we have ordered it in Aqua Blue, which is one of those colours that does look good next to light grey.

We wanted the spare wheel and were going to order the seat tables and floor mats as an option on an SE in any case, so finding an SE Plus on the available list with a spare wheel was like Christmas coming early. Christmas is this coming Friday August 12th!!

Another vote for the 2-tone plastics in the SE+. They look really nice and are a big improvement on all those dull, grey/black interiors out there (you know who you are Golfs, Audis etc etc) !

  7. I have just spent a weekend being driven around in a BMW 3 series with built in satnav/phone etc. The display for this is all on the top of the dash, similar to where the storage unit on the top of the dash is on the Yeti. This is ideal for glancing at whilst not being distracted from the road. When I got back in my Yeti this morning, I have the Bolero unit but assume it is in the same place as the Amundsen, it struck me that this was quite low down and your eyes are taken away from the road by quite a degree. I currently have my own satnav which sits on a bean bag type device on top of the dash, similar to the BMW in effect.

My question then - how do Yeti built in satnav people find the display? Do you find it quite a way down to flick your eyes?

The built in system on the SE Plus is quite appealing but its location is making me think twice.

I have an SE plus with the Amundsen built-in. Summary info (direction, distance to next change in direction, road names) is available on the data screen in front of the driver by selecting the 'Navigation' option. This works quite well.

  8. Just checked the mpg accurately for the first time at the pumps. My SE+ 1.2 has now done about 700 miles.

39.2 mpg over the last 380 miles, with a mixture of (mainly) motorway but also country lane driving in Anglesey (with sometimes 5 people in the car).

I don't think that's too bad. Hopefully it will improve as the engine loosens up. Ever the optimist!

  9. Hi everyone

Picked up my new Yeti 1.2 SE+ from Warrington yesterday and I'm extremely pleased with it. Had a test drive on 31 May and was hooked. Looking at some of the topics, I must have been lucky in getting my hands on a new SE+ which was the only one in the showroom when I walked in. It's also my first Skoda.

Looking at the site I can see there is a wealth of information I'll be accessing (and, I hope contributing to!). It's non-stop rain at the moment here so I'm wading through the owner's manual and trying to stay awake.

Only disappointing thing so far is the lack of information on updates to the satnav software (and the fact that the disk has to be in the machine for the satnav to work). I guess I can just copy the disk on to an SD card. These are the only gripes so far and are minor.
