  1. I have one of these phones that is surplus to requirements as my wife recently got it as an upgrade, but found she did not like it and has gone back to her Nokia. Just wanted to judge interest before I perhaps put it in the for sale section.

  2. One of williams posts has got me thinking' date=' don't hit the back button yet, hear me out. Over the years i have realised the best way to soften up a woman is to pay her a compliment. I have even tested this method using one of my mates who was single at the time:

We were out one night and he was on the pull. He never was any good at chatting up females, as his sense of humour is sarcasm, and most girls don't appreciate it. Anyway, i told him to pick a female, and pay her a compliment, and that should get her talking to him. He did. He stopped 2 girls and told the first one that he thought her hair was lovely and really suited her..... Bingo, she stopped. She was chuffed, and started talking to him. Unfortunately he took the white lies a bit to far, and when she asked why he thought her hair was nice, he said it was because he was a hairdresser (he's a joiner). This was still ok, until he told her friend that her hair could do with some work. End of conversation.

The point is, females love compliments, even when deep down they know you are only saying something to soften them up. And, even when they know themselves that your lying, they still live in hope.

Its a pitty i didn't realise this until after i left uni

I am sure men are the same. If a girl came upto me and complimented me on my appearance (actually happened on Monday but sadly she was a mature woman :(), I would almost certainly talk to her.

  3. You might have a 8/10mb connection at work' date=' but how many people are sharing it?

We have a 'fat pipe' at work but it's usually a lot slower than my home connection because I have a better contention ratio there :)[/quote']

the 8-10mb I quote is based on taking measurements of the band width using the ADSL guide page and a little extension I found for Firefox.

  4. Aside from huge downloads (DVD images' date=' anyone?), I'd say 1 or 2mb would be fine - after that it's not going to make online games any better, or 'net radio sound better, or even movie trailers look better, etc.

Then again, in Japan they have way faster broadband at much lower prices... so we're all getting ripped off if you look at it globally :D[/quote']

We always have had a raw deal with internet access in the UK. In the early days of dial up the Americans only paid subscription to the ISP, at a time when over here you had to pay the monthly subscription plus full call charges for the time you were online. To be honest for ordinary net use the 512K is fine and barely feels slower than the ethernet connection in work which is anything from 8mb to 10mb depending on what time of the day you measure it. Faster would be better for downloads, but often when downloading on the quick work connection, it is the speed of the server sending the file is the major limiting factor, meaning that you often achieve speeds well below what my home 512k connection is capable of.

Have to admit the only online games I play are Online Checkers and Reversi (part of Win XP).

  5. Typical example here of why some forums dont allow posting on classifieds and all questions are answered via PM's.

You have no right to say what my car is worth, in fact if you are not interested in the car, have no questions about the car you have no need or right to even post in this thread.

Lets just say i did my research and it is priced very fairly.

    [/quote']

Ross as I said, I wish you luck in finding a buyer at the price you want. I was just a little surprised that is all.

  6. Oh they were and back in 97 it was over a pound a page. As I say the problem was they need to be able to perfectly move the page, as even the slightest variation in the position of the paper ruins the print. This is never easy to achieve and even harder to maintain as a mechanism wears. Have this problem with my microscope system that has to be able to move its stage perfectly to allow robotic observation of multi-well plates.

  7. On the used car section of the skoda website (i.e. skoda dealers' stock only?)' date=' they range from 10,895 to £13,995, so Ross' price is pretty good really considering the "extras" :)

You may have a point about mods when it comes to selling to normal dealers or joe public... but I suspect many here will understand the difference they make... (And the price isn't necessarily high as it stands...)[/quote']

You may be right, I think the used prices are rediculous for the Fabia vRS, but the trouble for the seller is he needs to find a buyer who:

    1. Finds modifications desirable (a few on here :)).

    2. Does not mind it being second hand (if I was in market this would not bother me)

    3. Both of the above plus only wants the driving benefits of the mods but not the 'project' fun of doing it themselves.

So a rather narrow target group methinks.

There is an Octy vRS on sale on the site that is at a more realistic price, methinks due to the seller haveing found out how little the dealer he is buying his next car from is willing to give for it.

  8. Or in other words' date=' an inkjet is a compromise?

If you want to print text, a laser will be the best option.

If you want to print photos, then a dye-sublimation printer will be better.

If you want to do both, then you get an inkjet...

    Rob.[/quote']

Have you any idea how expensive and temperamental dye-sublimation printing is? Used to use this technology in work for printing confocal micrographs as in those days there was no other way to get a photo quality print from a digital image. The price per sheet was phenominal, and they repeatedly needed repair because of the way they work that involves printing one colour then pulling paper back in for the next pass etc. Slightest give in the mechanism meant that colour was not superimposed properly, and bingo out came the maintenance contractor again :(.

  9. It is surely a beautiful looking car, but no doubt photos were taken immediately after a very careful wash/polish job, but me thinks £11K is too much. Note I was proved right in an argument over another members small deisel performance car! Sold for closer to what I suggested than what he originally asked for.

  10. Open to offers but looking around £11' date='000 as the car is. I dont plan on breaking it so no vultures please.[/quote']

 Didn't the Fabia vRS originally sell for £10,995 new, and is it not true that after market alterations such as those listed generally reduce the cars value because of warranty and insurance issues?

  11. Truth of the matter is that despite massive DPI increases in recent years from the original 300dpi, the quality of text and line art printing has not improved and may even have got worse. My HP Desk Jet 510 mono inject used to print text that was as good as a laser. None of the modern Injets I have used can manage this unless on special paper. Photo quality has improved quite a lot, but again does not seem to be fully connected to resolution. My 2800 dpi Epson does better pictures than the 4800 dpi Canon, but neither touch my dads 4800 dpi Lexmark for photos, which is in itself just as good as the old now unavailable 9600 dpi HP 900 series desk jets.

  12. Epson cartridges are cheaper per cartridge than Lexmark or HP, but they are low capacity. Same is true for Canon, nut they are really really cheap to buy. My expereince of the makes would be:

Make, Text, Line, Photo, Noise, Speed

    Epson, 4/5, 2/5, 4.5/5, 1/5, 2/5,

    Canon, 5/5, 5/5, 3/5, 4/5, 4/5,

    HP, 5/5, 5/5, 5/5, 3/5, 3/5,

    Lexmark, 3/5, 3/5, 10/5, 5/5, 2/5,
