  1. 24 hrs later car still at the dealer. Yesterday when I dropped it off at 8.45 as arranged for attention, I invited the service receptionist to make a note of my informed findings about the approximate location of the source of the rattle. They wrote (something) on a post-it note that was then stuck on the service sheet. At 4.40 I spoke to the service manager. Apparently two technicians had been out in the car, one to drive, one to listen. They were investigating the possbility that the rattle emanates from the rear seat assembly. some 30 minutes later he left a voicemail message to the effect that they had *decided* the rattle is something behind the offside rear quarter trim panel... Apparently they plan to remove the trim panel this morning. ! I will share the result in the hope that it helps others here.
  2. Back to rattles from the boot area.... Our MY 2021 Karoq Sportline 1.5 has developed a rattle from the rear with 3k miles on the clock. I thought at first that it might be the boot area cover, but ruled that out by removing it and driving. Rattle.....rattle, rattle.... I then squatted in the back last week while my wife drove and the noise, a light rattle rather than the heavier type of noise I would associate with a loose tailgate, appears to be coming from behind the trim panel over the offside rear quarter. Loose connector on the rear offisde light assembly? I am hoping that our local dealer will be able to identify and resolve today. They have the car until tomorrow if necessary.
  3. At the back of the centre console, facing the rear seats is a 12V socket. The new wheel has a good tactile feel. The palm/finger swell is comfortable and the perforations make string-backed gloves unnecessary. The heated wheel function gets my wife's enthusiastic approval. Overall build quality of the car is good. It feels well put together and the surfaces that one can touch while sitting are in the main fair soft-ish quality. Ours has the seemingly *standard* feature for a Karoq with the powered tailgate; the door doesn't quite sit flush with the side panels at the bottom near the bumper. I am sure this is a matter of adjustment at the first service, or beforehand if it annoys me that much in the meantime. Having moved from a late '17 Octava with the same engine, we know what MPG it should be capable of. What we like is that in the Karoq the engine noise is even more subdued than it was in the Octavia. There is also noticeably less engine vibration intruding into the cabin. In any gear it is creamy smooth.
  4. Photos of steering wheel and USB C ports, memory stick and iPhone lead inserted.
  5. I agree the change from USB A to USB C is a minor pain. I bought a 128 Gig Sandisk USB A/C flashstick and transferred my music files to it, and a short USB A-C cable for the iPhone. There is no removeable torch in the boot (Sportline trim), but there is still a brolly under the front passenger seat. One thing on which both my wife and I are sure is that the MY21 Sportline has a softer spring-rate than the previous MY which we drove for a week and a half prior to the arrival of the new one, yet body roll and overall control on corners feels on a par. It results in a less jiggly ride on the 19" wheels. This, we agree, is a positive. The sound quality of DAB is markedly inferior to that of FM, particularly on BBC R3 where many broadcasts are uncompressed. A similar difference is audible between .MP3 and lossless files such as .WAV. Even the cheap-as-chips standard audio fit on the Karoq is capable of showing up the gulf in quality.
  6. Thanks for your response. I did try yesterday setting FM stations under pre-sets, having selected FM in Advanced Settings, and it was fine until I turned the ignition off. When I re-started the car the FM stations had been replaced by DAB tunings. It seems to be a software glitch that is preventing FM pre-sets to *stick* after a re-start. I am going to try a factory re-set of the Amundsen today and see whether that resolves the issue. If the sound quality of FM was not so much better than DAB I'd just go with the status quo. And yes, there are two USB C ports in the phone/lighter tray. No SD card slots.
  7. We got our MY '21 on Friday, and found the Amundsen infotanement software notably different to the earlier version. In particular, the radio element seems wedded to DAB. I would much rather listen to R3 on FM. We have a strong FM signal from our local transmitter, yet the Amundsen, even with FM selected, insists on tuning to DAB. Is there a Skoda technician here who can point me to a work-around?
  8. Thank you. I will take a look this evening.
  9. September 2017 Octavia SE L estate. On half a dozen occasions now - we think all of them following overnight rain - the windows fog up suddenly within 30 second or so of starting, and do not clear for some 10 minutes; this with the A/C left permanently on auto. No mechanic am I, but it feels to me as if the heater matrix is getting wet and becomes a very effective steam generator as soon as warming engine coolant hits it. Anyone else? Nice car otherwise. Very good fuel consumption, quiet ride, great headlights. We remain pleased.
  10. Multifunction display says when it is running on 2.
  11. The ony downside so far is my abject failure to understand how to connect the Amundsen 'infotainment' centre to the Internet. It remains frustratingly isolated. I suspect this is more a symptom of age (mine) than a poorly written manual and software. 20 years ago I needed next door's eight year old to programme our Betamax recorder. My ability to grasp new techology has not improved since.
  12. After a 1.4 Yeti for three years followed by a 170 TDI Yeti for a further three years, we now have an Octavia estate with the 1.5 EVO engine. I am staggered at how frugal and civilised it is. On a run to the west country and back last week via the M4 and M5, generally running at between 65 and 70 mph, we posted a door-to-door aggregate consumption of 58.7 mpg. At these speeds the engine is practically inaudible, and spends a lot of time on two cylinders. On good surfaces tyre roar is not that intrusive. So far we are finding Octavia ownership a very pleasant change.
  13. People who want to tell the world that they have have ordered a Yeti, or tell the world they have got a got a Yeti (usually rendered as 'taken delivery of), or have named a Yet. I don't hate them. I just think they are sad. FFS sake. Get a life.
  14. Having had Autoglas replacements fitted to 3 cars to replace OEM fittings, I have to say I am unimpressed. They are inferior, with optical distortions aplenty. Cheapo, and they get away with it.

    Repair cost

    Ahhh. What price a context-sensitive spell-checker?
  16. ..In your home. But go to another house, or a shop, or an office, or hide behind a tree or a wet paper bag. No coverage. Did I mention I am not a fan of 1.8 Ghz mobile? PS. But I do rather like our Yeti!
  17. Never mind North Yorkshire and the here and now, Orange was launched in 1994 and has never had an effective network, such are the propagation challenges of 1.8 GHz as opposed to 900 MHz (O2, Voda). Orange is now combined with T-Mobile (also 1.8 GHz) to create Everything Everywhere. The EE business model turns technological uncertainty into revenue stream by recognising that inbound callers who can't reach the EE numbers they have dialled because the subscribers are 'out of coverage' will leave voicemail. The EE subscribers then return the missed calls, thus burning through their bundled minutes more quickly and hastening the time when they need to pay 'extras' or contract for a larger bundle. A more appropriate name for Everything Everywhere would be Still Not Much Anywhere. IMHO, of course.
  18. 1.4 TSI - last tankful 45.6 to the gallon overall - a brim-to brim-measurement with town, motorway, country lanes including a 12 miles each way commute from cold every working day. Maxidot showed 46.9.
  19. Uhhh. Apologies. I handn't read all the foregoing posts. Will teach me!
  20. Dip the clutch a fraction. Disengages cruise without braking or fiddling with the rocker on top of the stalk. Press 'res' to resume the set speed. Seeemples.

    Lost key

Thank you all for your insight. The present Mrs F has just returned from work tonight to announce that the security people in the Kennet Centre, Newbury, had taken custody of her key (handed in by the shop assistant in Holland & Barrett), and have repatriated it to its rightful owner. We now have two keys again...thank heavens. Have myself driven to Alfreton in Derbys. and back today in da Yeti (using remaining spare key) and found it a fairly civilised experience. Radio, CD and card plug-in all worked well and 45.9 to the gallon overall - this in a 1.4 TSI - is a pleasing rate of consumption.

    Lost key

As it says on the tin - one member of this household lost a central locking key today. It may be retrieved tomorrow in one of two shops, but if the mission ends in failure, can any fellow members enlighten me as to the likely cost of replacement? Thanks.
  23. Sorry to hear this. Our May 11 variety's Bolero is utterly wonderful, following on from the rubbish audio fitment in our previous car, a Honda Civic. The Honda was an excellent vehicle, let down badly by a cost-cutting radio made for Honda by Panasonic, so I know well how infuriating it can be. The Honda's radio was deaf - failing to pick up very much quite often, and it also failed to auto-tune to stronger frequencies when they were available. Quite inexcusable when RDS chipsets have been around for so very long, and what made it worse was that Honda were (and still are) in denial about the problem. The Bolero in our Yeti has not missed a beat - in fact I have not yet heard it change frequency while following a selected station, and the sound quality on FM and CD is very good indeed. I have not tried a USB stick yet.
  24. + 1 on that. Particulates are known to be dangerous - the reason DPFs are a component part of compliance with Euro 5. Removal of a DPF is, in my view, irresponsible and says much about the owner's attitude to others. Would be interesting to know when removal of a DPF from a vehicle originally fitted with one is to become an offence.
