  1. Hi All

Ages since I posted anything on here! Still have a Fabia Monte Carlo estate in our household but I now drive a Renault Megane RS Cup so leave the dependable Monte as our family wagon driven by my other half mostly. Unfortunately I've found something broken on it, and that's the driver's side heated wing mirror glass. It doesn't heat up at all, which as you can imagine is posing a problem on cold morning (first world problem I know, but still annoying!). Any ideas what could be causing it? Would it be a fuse, the mirror glass itself or something more complicated? Just wondering where to start really.

    Thanks

  2. Some more from me: -

A man gets out of the car in front but instead of moving out of the way of our moving car, decides just to walk down the middle of the road!

Trying to park up outside a house, a chav on a bike decides to do a slow wheelie in front of our car forcing us to wait. I know technically we have to give way as technically he's a road user but he was being a little sod, and he knew it.

Driving up to a roundabout in Nottingham, with 2 lanes clearly marked as straight on, the woman in the silver car to my right suddenly slams her brakes on and beeps at me, despite there being space for her to keep going, bizarre!

Driving out of Escomb village in County Durham, suddenly some sheep fly out into the road, had to swerve to avoid them! Apparently 20 or so more followed behind these 3, but no rear dashcam to provide footage of them!

  3. A few from me: -

A Plumb Center van goes right across me as I'm turning right at the roundabout, forcing me to slam on the anchors.

Don't know what this dog owner was thinking allowing his dog to walk into the road as I'm heading towards them, had to swerve round the dog, wasn't impressed.

With my indicator on nice and early (fully functioning and clearly audible) that wasn't enough for the driver of this Fiesta who didn't even brake!

  4. Attempted to wash my Renault Megane RS yesterday but it was just too damn hot so just gave up. Managed to do the wheels but even those were a chew on having to pressure wash them regularly in a vain attempt to cool the surface. Really need to invest in a gazebo for this sort of weather!

Anyway, here's a nice clean wheel, cleaned with Bilt Hamber Autowheel and Meguiars APC for tyres and arches, protected with Auto Finesse Aqua Coat and 2 coats of GTechniq T1 on the tyres.

  5. After getting a new car (which is hiding away to the right in the first picture!) my Mk2 Fabia Monte Carlo estate went to my missus to be used as our family runabout. Had lots of use over winter so was long overdue for a detail! Looking lots better now!

    Products used on bodywork:

    Powermaxed TFR
    Bilt Hamber Autofoam
Meguiars Gold Class Shampoo (finally close to running out of this after 6 years!)
    Auto Finesse Oblitarate
    Autoglanz Blood Tonic
    Farecla G3 Clay Mitt
    Poorboys Blackhole
    Wax Planet iWax

Products used on wheels, tyres and arches:

    Bilt Hamber Autowheel
    Meguiars APC
    Auto Finesse Oblitarate
    Autobrite Cherry Glaze
    Angelwax Bilberry Wheel Wax
    Meguiars Endurance Tyre Gel

Exactly; someplace upthread (and on YouTube) there's video from an Ariel Atom of Richard passing it at Rockingham, Northhants, and the footage opens with the driver and passenger giving each other "The H*11!?" looks, then shows the Atom trying to keep up.

    Looks like this one: -

  7. Yeah it's great. A few sprays on each panel then a blast with the pressure washer and that's it. Spot on for maintenance washes, especially during the winter. Bouncer's Bead Juice is another alternative which is quite popular.

  8. Two white van drivers not doing the stereotype any favours!

A white van flies out of a junction in front of me without stopping, slowing down or looking! Then has a close call with parked cars and a car coming the opposite way! Was closer than it appears on camera.

A white van uses a right-turn-only lane at a roundabout but decides to go straight on and cut me up in the process while I was avoiding an Audi A1 that had passed the stop line.

  9. Going round a roundabout onto a dual carriageway, an Alfa Romeo decides not to even bother braking and flys straight onto the roundabout in front of me!

An Audi S5 decides to enter a roundabout as I'm coming towards them indicating right, then decides to be slow!

A personal mistake of mine. Overtaking some cyclists going into a right turn lane, when I see a BMW X6 indicating right to use the right turn lane. I didn't notice the BMW indicating before I overtook the cyclists.

A stupid kid decides to stand in the middle of the road as I'm coming towards them. I keep to my side of the road and prepare to stop if they don't move, but in the end they did. Absolute morons playing with scooters next to a busy main road! Hope I put the wind up them so they might think twice about doing it again!

@dan4291 - Like the Oliver's Mount footage. One question though; I thought it was one way at all times?

And ref the A66, are those roadworks posted "No access to $place"?

Not sure if it's one way all the time, never saw any signs saying it was one way. I just went that way because that's the way the racers go!

As far as I can remember, a diversion was signposted before the roadworks began, going to that closed junction. It just looks like locals taking a shortcut, which I thought was a bit naughty.

Hasnt this merge in turn debate been battered out unresolved several times already?

Somebody put a new video up to divert attention! :D

Sadly yes. It'll carry on and on until the government change the law about it, which isn't really a priority by the sound of things at the moment!

Just found some videos that I uploaded a while back but didn't put on this thread.

Coming round a roundabout and I see a Ford Focus crashed into a fence in the bushes to the left of the road. Reported to Police as no 'Police Aware' notices but they said they already knew about it.

Going through a set of roadworks on the A66 dual carriageway, with one of the carriageways closed and the other down to 2-way single file traffic. Coming up to a closed (in our direction) junction, some cars decide that, instead of following the diversion signposted earlier, that they would stop traffic and turn right onto an open slip road. A bit naughty this one really!

Coming up to a steep bit of road, the truck in front is trying to accelerate to gain momentum to get up the hill at a decent pace. Unfortunately they are thwarted by a dozy Corsa driver who slows right down at the beginning of the hill, causing the truck to lose all their momentum. After I overtake them both, the truck manages to overtake the Corsa. Just shows how slow the Corsa driver was going!

Something a bit different (and longer), took a cheeky (but legal) drive round Oliver's Mount race circuit in Scarborough, which is a public road when no racing is on, but 30mph limit.

Consider you're at the supermarket and 2 checkouts are open. Checkout 1's conveyor belt is full with 3 customers in the queue. Checkout 2's conveyor belt is 1/3 full with one customer in the queue. You arrive at the checkouts and to go Checkout 2. Are you pushing in front of the last person to join Checkout 1? If you were the second customer in the queue at Checkout 1 would you block any other customers arriving at checkout 2 to prevent them leaving the supermarket before you?

Thankyou! Exactly the analogy that's needed here!

You seem very defensive, that's my opinion. I am not in the wrong if I don't let you merge in. Left hand lane, in that situation, has priority unless stated otherwise.

With regards to your supermarket issue. If there are 3 people in checkout 1 queueing, and then they open checkout 2 as you turn up. Would you allow checkout 1 people before you?

    That's the point in case.

Depends if people choose to to stay in checkout 1 queue or not. If they move first, then after them.

  13. Practically impossible to find time working full time with 2 young kids and everything that needs to be done at the weekend (food shopping, housework, etc.). Managed a quick wash last week, but that was it's first wash since July! For a proper detail I've got to book the time weeks in advance, then hope the weather's ok!

This happened to me today, i'm perfectly entitled to use the merge lane, this old boy decided to try and force me off the road!

I'm thinking of reporting to the Police as that sort of behaviour is just not on.

I hate that. Who does that driver think they are?!  I really don't understand why people do this, and also only use 1 lane when there are 2 available. That queue could be halved very easily if people used both lanes and merged in turn at the end, but that would be far too sensible wouldn't it......

  15. I have both the H&R springs and RARB on my Monte estate. The springs made a huge difference to handling, including a significant reduction in body roll, as well as improving comfort over the stock springs. I fitted the RARB after I had had the springs fitted and the RARB does reduce understeer a fair bit, not a "night and day" difference compared to just having the springs fitted, but together they really make a difference.

What's the speed limit on that bit of road? 30mph?

It looks to me like you were doing more than 30mph on approach to the roundabout. The Up driver appeared to put their foot down once they pulled out.

Are you aware that the Highway Code has different advice for approaching roundabouts compared to approaching junctions?

The speed limit is 40 on that road, and I was probably doing just under that. In hindsight I probably did approach the roundabout too quickly. My annoyance in this video was really the fact that the Up driver stopped, saw me coming, then went. I had to brake quite hard which doesn't show much on video.

  17. Coming up to a crossroads, a taxi turns right just before my light changes (maybe just avoided a red light) and a Seat Ibiza indicating left, but going straight on, and the fornt lights are DRLs, no rear lights!

Coming round a corner I come across a VW Passat pulling a little trailer, without a light board or numberplate on the trailer.

A VW Up decides to stop when he sees me coming towards a mini roundabout, but then decides to go anyway!

Following a Jaguar F-Pace approaching a mini roundabout with no other traffic around, they decide to come to a complete stop to my surprise! (In hindsight, I was quite impatient here and maybe the horn usage was a bit much)

An impatient bloke in a Mitsubishi L200 flies onto a roundabout in front of me without looking.

A Nissan X-Trail pulls out on me at a roundabout and doesn't seem to be in much of a hurry!

A Toyota Auris seen taking the incorrect lane going straight on at a roundabout, then overtaking a caravan a bit too close to oncoming traffic.

Following 2 cars behind a tractor, the tractor indicates left then moves into the centre lane, presumably making a sharp left turn, but no, they're turning right.....
