  1. Happy Christmas to you all

Just something I thought I would share. My stepson had difficulty with his Rapid Spaceback 1.4tdi hard starting and rough running when cold.

My trusted independent could find no fault and pointed me in the direction of the main dealer.

At this point they had tried a known good air mass, checked the glow plugs and drained the tank and changed the fuel filter at my request as there were no fault codes.

Worrying about this as it was approaching Christmas and having spent £135 already it went Mitchell Skoda at Cheshire Oaks

Despite there high work load they resolved the issue with guided fault finding and the use of VAG fuel system cleaner G001790M3.

The car now runs like a watch and I am really impressed with the result so much so I purchased a further 3 bottles on line from Dennis Horton for the rest of our family fleet.

So despite changing the fuel filter every 10k you can still come a cropper with dirty fuel.

    Merry Christmas

  2. Hi Guys. Had a message from the owner of my old Fabia 1. 4TDI to say that the wipers have stopped working all speeds at the stork.

Due to restrictions I can't travel to have a look. The owner tells me they can be activated using a Snap On scanner which to me rules out the motor, relay and wiring.

    Anyone come across this?

    It's a 57 plate level 3 spec

  3. Hi mate.

I really believe in peace of mind. Mine having done 100k now its had brakes all round twice not that they were needed apart from a leaking wheel cylinder.

Eurocar parts have offers usually 50 percent off brakes. Wait for an offer you can get front discs and pads for less than £50

With regard to the rear you can get a pagid rear kit half price for £40. Drums are also cheap at about £40 for the pair. Brake fluid and copper ease for £10 and its worry free cheap as chips motoring.

There are loads of videos on YouTube to assist fitting.

    Worry free motoring

    • Thanks 1
  4. Well my 1.4tdi level 3 has hit 100,000 miles.

Still doing the 5000 mile oil and filter change and then all the filters every 10,000

Only failure was a wheel cylinder (replaced at 50,000) which I was going to do at again at 100k with shoes and discs and pads, this went at 98,000

So my latest thought is shall I change the aux belt tensioner and belt or take the hit when it has its third cambelt at 120,000

    Decisions decisions...

  5. Hello All

    Its been a while

Still got the 1.4 TDI now with 82k and running like a well oiled serviced every 5000 miles machine, however perfection has been slightly ruined upon discovering by finding that one of the parcel shelf mounting (black knob) of plastic has fracture from the trim. two repairs later and it wont have it even with Araldite rapid.

Anyone else had the same problem. I have engineered an idea to mod it without sourcing a replacement trim.

Just wondered if any one else has had the same problem and any fixes they have tried.

    thanks Dave

(still trying to decided if I am going to replace it with a Rapid or an Octavia......)

  6. Fabia 3 1.4tdi 2007 plate

How do you reset the service now display on the dash

Looked on tube last time it was done they used the computer

Tried the push button ign on etc etc with no joy

I no longer have access to VW computer and would be grateful of a sensible answer

    Thanks Buckers

  7. My Girlfriend bought a 62 plate Fabia With a service package have had three services I had a look at the book and the schedule and saw that in 30k the vehicle has only had three oil and filter changes which I suspect that is due to one link not paying for  anything else.

So I decided to change the Air Filter (not the worst thing I have ever done but tricky) and then the fuel filter thinking it would be like my three cylinder I bleed it on using the ignition on and off method to prime the filter, It didn't like that and failed to start, so I removed it and filled to like one the old 1.9tdi and it again failed to start.

Solution was to fill the new filter to the brim and back fill the fuel in pipe and the fill the fuel pipe going into the pump. Which is easier said than done when you are fifteen miles from the fuel station in the middle of a random sleet storm.

So the moral of the story - Examine what you get for you buck when buying a service package or prepare to think outside the box.

  8. So keen today on my day off I thought shall I go and find a replacement car as it was Lightcliffe's first day at the point or shall I just wait again and give it a service.

It ended up being a £240 parts spend and a Full service and Discs and Pads on my Dad's Fabia 2, An oil and filter and levels on my mates Fabia SDI and then a Minor Service, Discs and Pads, Drums and Shoes on my Fabia 2.

    Dad's Car No problem

    Mates car No problem

My car and bare in mind I was only changing them because they had done 50k - Wrong Drums and two nails in one of my Pirelli Pzero's

What a bummer - so car is on stands on the drive waiting for replacements tomorrow !!!

Golden rule !!!! Always check your parts at the Parts department !!!!!!!!

  9. New car prices maybe rising, this is also having a knock on effect on good used stock.

Motorpoint seem to be the cheapest at the minute with some real bargains

I suspect that in another six months there will be the obligatory sell off of old stock and pre reg demos etc,

look at the price of 1 year old Rapids I am wondering how long it will take spacebacks to fall mind you I was tipped the wink from a friend at the dealer that Rapids are not popular so go figure

  10. it was not just the pulling.

lets just say I felt very rushed by the dealer, considering I had not seen the car or had the opportunity to drive it and that the figures were adjusted to suit themselves a little to much I thought nope I don't want the hassle.

Buying a car is supposed to be enjoyable, We got one recently from Simpsons and it was a pleasure and hassle free

Still that's the way the cookie crumbles

  11. Mintex are fine !

If you are changing them yourselves its very straight forward if you have mechanical knowledge and the right tools. There are some videos on you tube that are similar  such as this

IF YOU ARE NOT CONFIDENT AND DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS KNOWLEDGE OR SAFETY EQUIPMENT THEN DON'T BOTHER
